  1. Hmmm hope this is right? Edited to add that I'm going for the 1:1 . . . might give it another go as it's a big pic with none of the quality. Not sure what I did to export it like that
  2. Day 12. Think I was feeling a bit claustrophobic in the city.
  3. Thank you! The fact thats it's a fantastic pic makes it better Make me feel cooler just looking at it.
  4. Thanks JS It's a crime to melt ice cubes on the pavement in this heat you know.
  5. What a great challenge. I've failed because I've started late, but I'll still try and keep up Here is Khan looking unimpressed with my mowing efforts:
  6. I think what I'm finding so frustrating right now is that the shots I'm taking have the right idea behind them, just aren't taken so well. As in having more noise than I could fix processing later. It's annoying when what you see isn't what you get. I'm looking forward to learning though. I think right now I'm trying to fix low light by upping the ISO too much and that's causing alot of noise and washing out colours. I dled the lightroom beta and so far I'm quite taken with it. I've only had a quick play though. I've just made a folder for bad night shots with comments about what I did wrong on each of them. Thanks for the suggestion kja! I would have just trashed them, but you're right they'll help stop me from making the same mistakes.
  7. Thanks for the feedback! I've been wanting to adjust and post another version but my other computer died and I need an external case for my HDD before I can get it back. I think I just need to desaturate it a bit, or maybe instead of using gausian blur to enhance the colours I should play with curves more persephone, I'll have to check out lightroom I've been hearing heaps of good stuff about it. Ideally I'd love not to edit on my computer but I need to get better at using my camera first Still working out all my controls but thats the dream
  8. Well I've been playing with my new s90 and loving it! I have found taking good pics on auto a bit of a challenge so am using the manual mode much more now. I was wondering what do ppl usually do to their pics in photoshop? I've been playing around with the high pass filter, gausian blur, and curves (this is taking a bit to get a good result). Any other good tips you find yourself using all the time? Here is my first attempt before:
  9. Thanks for the link. Great set of forums :D Saw the Olympus PEN E-P1 today. So awesome! Still a tad too bulky for what I'm after but awesome anyway. Maybe I'll be getting something like that when I get more into photography.
  10. Beautiful shots. My first digital camera was a finepix and I loved it despite only having a 16mb card I have looked at a few of their newer ones but keeping it pocket sized is a very big consideration for me and I haven't found one that suits yet. If I don't keep it small I tend to leave it behind and I really want to start taking a camera everywhere with me. The F200EXR looked likely, though I did want RAW. Any other suggestions in the Finepix range?
  11. Well I got annoyed at my Lumix and it's time for a new camera. I know there are a few professional photographers / budding photographers here so I figured the DOL trust could help me out. The reason why my Lumix annoyed me so much is that it didn't have enough manual controls, it was very much a point and shoot. I guess where I am right now is ready for experimenting and getting a bit more into photography, but I'm way too lazy to carry around a bulky SLR and all the lenses etc. I really want something I'll be happy to take everywhere but have some control over all the settings. So far it looks like the Canon PowerShot s90 is the way to go, in between an SLR and a point and shoot. Theres a fair bit of hype and hate out there about it which I'm having a hard time sifting through. Has anyone had some experience with them? Pros? Cons? I'm also open to any other camera which might meet my needs, this one just seems most likely. I'm going to go check it out in person tomorrow
