  1. Bunnings sells it cheaply in pots. I think its only about $2.50 apot. But they seem to sell out fast so check regularly!
  2. I have thought about a rescue, and am still considering a cross breed that is at my local pound. Dyzney, they absolutely wouldn't be alone together til an age where I was comfortable with that, probably 12 months. Jed, I would still love a boxer, and am honestly still considering it. I think I will start contacting breeders for all the breeds I like and then see who I click with, I already know who I would get my rottie from if I went that way.
  3. True. Looks like its a rottie..... Or there is a beautiful husky x lab at the AAPS shelter at the moment.....
  4. Its hard as I have met a lot of dogs from each breed that have been brilliant examples of their breed and make me want them all even more!!!
  5. I want to get another dog as my partner will be leaving and taking his dog soon, and she had become accustomed to having him around, so I think having another dog for company for her while I am at work might be good for her. She loves the cats but it's not really the same
  6. Rottie has met frenchies at training and got along great. Funnily enough, she loves the snorting noises, she grew up with a pug and lived her adult life with a snorting, snoring cavvie.
  7. You possibly may be right about the rough play, and I have to do the right thing by Abby first and foremost. OK, so maybe I'll get a boxer one day but not right now.... Which leaves the question, rottie or frenchie....
  8. Luckily Abby is great with small dogs too. She isn't a rough and tumble play type of dog. Gah, its all too hard!
  9. Have a big dog to pick up after anyway, I walk her every evening, and if we were going off cost then the frenchie is out!! I do like the idea of another small dog. I miss my cavvie...
  10. I have narrowed my choices down to 3 options. I do not know how to narrow it down any further. I have always liked Frenchies and was going to get one a few months ago and have been talking to the breeder about getting a pup. My dad before he passed away was going to get a boxer with me, so I would like to do that sort of in his memory, but I love them as a breed too and my rottie Abby is my whole world and I love for, and would love a male rottie as well.... So here is my problem. How do I limit it down further?
  11. The foxie x chi has terrible teeth, some have been removed. They have both been desexed, the foxie x chi is male, the foxie x jack russell is female. Both genuinely lovely dogs. Will sit and stay, I will google saffron on the hill and see what I can find
  12. I have a friend who is elderly and has a mini foxie x jack Russell and a mini foxie x chi. Unfortunately due to her age she needs to go into care and has no idea what to do with her dogs. They are beautiful dogs and I have no idea what to suggest to her. Is there a rescue place that would take on these 2, or would it be best to take them to the local pound? They are about 12 years old and if I could have them here I would but they would escape under my fence. I would just love some suggestions to help this lady out please.
  13. Sounds like Dr Bob has just picked up another 2 dogs and 3 cats as patients!! I have booked charlie cat in for when I am on holidays.
  14. I have called them for a price on desexing a cat and found it pretty reasonable too.
  15. I am in cranbourne nearly every day for work anyway so that might be a good option too. Is that the one on the South Gippsland highway?
  16. This is one I had been thinking about as they are only 5 minutes from home. Need a vet that isn't afraid of big dogs, only 1 vet I have seen can handle my Rott confindently and he is at the clinic I have been going to and now refuse to go to. Nothing against him, but I had my Fern PTS 3 weeks ago and then they go and send me a reminder notice for heart worm on monday this week. I still have not gotten her ashes back, after they told me that it would only be a week. Very not impressed.
  17. As it says, I am looking for a new vet around the Narre Warren area. I have always been very happy with my Vet in Hampton Park, but they have recently changed hands and I have been horrified at how they have dealt with my dog being put to sleep and need to change vets. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Surrounding suburbs fine too.
  18. Where would I get one of those teardrops from shek?
  19. And luckily the other dogs are pretty good when they are inside so I can have her out if I choose to. I think I will put her on my computer desk, she would always sit on my feet when I was on the computer.
  20. I think I am feeling the same as your friend T.
  21. After Fern passed last week I got her cremated and will be hopefully picking up her ashes today. Just curious, for those of you who have had the pets cremated, where do you put the ashes? Are they on display somewhere or away somewhere private? Do they come back in a pretty urn? I didn't get to choose anything and mum signed all the paperwork and everything for me as I was too beside myself.
  22. Even when seperating, accidents happen. I learnt this the hard way. My little Cav girl got knocked by my 40kg rott and she ended up with broken bones and PTS. They were supervised at the time simply going from one yard to another.
  23. So many people tell me I did the right thing, and on some level, I know I did, but it doesnt feel like it. She was happy. Slow and fragile, but happy. And she loved having Charlie there. He was like her instant friend. Fern could play with him, at least he was the same size as her!!
  24. Jules, Fern was nearly 12. She and Abby we both tyring to get out the back door at the same time and Abby won. She bumped Fern on her way past and Fern hit the door frame. Straight away Fern's back was twisted and her left leg was pointing to the roof. I was hoping she had just dislocated her hip again as she has done this before and we were told it would be likely to happen again. I got her to the vets and due to her heart murmur being so bad we made the decision to give her her wings instead of have her possibly pass on the operating table under anesthetic. Abby does have another doggy companion, a 2 year old Amstaff, but they are not close at all, they tolerate each other, but thats about it. He has been trying to get Abby to play for the last few days but she wont have a bar of it. The only thing that is helping at the moment is the little rescue kitten I had. Fern loved Charlie (kitten) and Charlie would hang off Ferns ears and tail and chase her around. Abby has started to follow charlie around the house since fern is gone. Her tail had a little wag to it last night when Charlie was tormenting her. I was considering getting a puppy prior to Fern going, but circumstances changed and I was unable to. I think if the right cav turned up then I would. I was thinking about it yesterday and I think I would love to find a pup or young dog with Fern in its line. Like a great grandchild of Ferns or something.
