  1. Fabulous!!

There has been several new prefixes/memberships started up by people who have previously been suspended/expelled.

I also know there are several out there who are in the above mentioned caragory, but are still members with "new" fake information as they obtained a membership prior to having to provided photo ID.

I am not saying that DV do nothing to improve the security to avoid members/potential members from abusing a system, but how would having photo ID stop this!

The last time I was asked for my membership card was at an AGM.

I have shown since, never been asked. Been into the office, never been asked. Transfers, never been asked.

Maybe they need to consider some alternatives and explain to members what they are setting out to achieve. As previously mentioned this was considered over ten years ago and was considered to be an added cost for little to no benefit.

  2. I have voted no.

But I would vote yes for initial membership.

As to how this would work would be mystifying as you would only need your mate to get a m/ship and prefix in their name and this would still allow you to breed and sell under their identity and possibly pay the mate a few bob into the bargain.

We have or have had suspended members applying for and obtaining membership through out Aust.

Asking for photos IDs would have to be applicable to all membership categories, I am unsure for what reasons they would want this requirement. This was discussed a number of years ago and was knocked on the head as to the possibility of seeing no benefit from its introduction but create additional costs to implement.

I for one, cannot see how the introduction of this requirement would alter or improve any existing processes or procedures. Maybe if DV explained why they were attempting to introduce the photo ID requirement in preference to forwarding an email to Club Secretaries with this message that explains nothing we may have a clearer picture.

As a member, other than attending and registering for an AGM or SGM, when have you supplied or shown your existing membership card?

Maybe we should have microchips implanted and we can be scanned each time we have a transaction with Dogs Vic?

  3. The following has been circulated to Club Secretaries:

    From: Jo Cerda [mailto:[email protected]]

    Sent: Wednesday, 22 June 2011 5:31 PM

Subject: *** DOGS Victoria - Photo ID now required for membership renewals ***

    Dear Secretary,

The Management Committee of DOGS Victoria have resolved that:

ALL membership renewals from 1st October 2011 to 31st December 2012 will require the member to attach photo ID to the membership renewal.

Also, it is now a requirement that all new memberships provide proof of residential address and photo ID when applying for membership of DOGS Victoria.

(The membership application form located on the website has been updated to this effect.)

The above information has been placed on our website in the Members Area, under Members Latest News, and will also be published in the September Gazette.

Please circulate to your club members via your newsletter, or by email if appropriate.

    Regards,

    Jo Cerda

  4. The meeting may take longer than 5 minutes as some members may not be in favour of changing the Patron from the Governor of Victoria.

As the recommendation for Patron is a recommendation from the Management Committee under their Powers of Management Committee in the Constitution, to not accept the recommendation of Patron could it be seen as a vote of no-confidence in the MC.

It could be an interesting meeting!

  5. 2.114 Proxies (As amended 14.1.93)

2.114.1 Proxies are expressly precluded at all Special General Meetings of the VCA.

BTW: This could be a very expensive meeting that takes only 5 minutes, for one agenda item.

Advertising, electoral rolls, meeting room, VCA staff attendance, supper-normally provided.

Surely in the interest of members funds, having only had an AGM last month the SGM could have been called for a few months down the track, possibly with additional agenda items.

I would not have thought having a Patron would have been so high on priorities to need a SGM so quickly after an AGM afterall we have waited nearly twelve months in the past for some more important agenda items.

  6. Hi All, my first DOL post.

I have recently purchased an Alaskan Malamute puppy and will recieve him at 8.5 weeks around July 20. Although not confirmed he is of show quality (only two weeks old), he's breeding is of the highest quality and my intentions are to get involved in showing him from the get go.

For all the experienced handlers. breeders and dog owners I have some questions for you.

Shows to enter - I'm in Victoria and have Horsham, Macalister, Hamilton, Kilmore and Royal Melbourne earmarked as the dog's and my initiation to the baby puppy show ring. I'd be keen to hear your thoughts and advise on wether on not I am in for a good experience and the chances of success without alot of experience.

Equipment - I have received a list of things to purchase prior to the puppies arrival, food bowl, leash, collar, day bed, kennel, etc. They have also recommended a grooming table, noose and blower and I'd like to know if this grooming equipment is absolutely necessary for success given I will only have the 1 dog?

Training - i am keen to have the best training possible for the dog however I am a little confused with all of the options available. Is puppy school required? Is Obedience training better than a home schooled TOT approach? I'm also looking for a good book on showing dogs, show dog training, possible breed specific?

    Any help appreciated....

If possible go along to the Victorian Spitz Breed Club Champ Show on Monday 13th June 2011 at KCC Park. There will be some Mals there and you can see and talk to owners/exhibitors. It will also give you some idea of what sort of equipment that you should have.

  7. The first was AAE/QANTAS to Canberra (as AAE is the only freight to do Canberra now)..Booked paid.. got email..

Arrived at AAE: Could not find the booking on the system. Rang the afterhours person. no information. Almost had to pay for freight again. Even though it was booked and paid two days prior.

I have received a few enquiries in the last couple of days from DOLers re AaE and their booking confirmation procedure. I have printed this for information purposes.

The process for a pet transporter to make a booking is to contact the pet booking office. Once a booking has been confirmed a number is allocated and an email file with allocated number is forwarded to the booking agent. The booking agent should forward to the person lodging the pet to assist in the lodgement process.

    The email from AaE contains:

    Pet Booking Confirmation

This document confirms booking arrangements for flight with flight numbers, times, sender and receiver details and what is being transported and the size of the applicable crate.

    Pet Shippers Declaration

This document MUST be taken along with the Pet Booking Confirmation for lodgement. Details need to be completed by the sender. This has a section that the lodging party has to complete and for AaE counter staff to complete.

Note: Puppies and kittens between 8 weeks and 12 weeks of age require a veterinary certificate stating that they are healthy and OK for flight.

    AaE Service Conditions

    Information document only.

AaE Household Pet Air Travel Guide

    Information document only.

By taking copies of the Pet Booking Confirmation and Pet Shippers Declaration along with you then there should be no reason not to find the booking.

    I hope this helps.

  8. wayrod doesn't work for a transport company. He is a pet industry professional and transport isn't his main interest. He does work long hours in his own business and isn't online 24/7 so can on occasion take a little while to get back to people.

I cannot recommend him more highly, especially for people in rural/regional areas who don't have a lot of choice in transport options.

editing to add: See you have responded here now wayrod. And did you get my latest email??

    Which one

Are you talking about the one sent at 12.27am this morning, yes I did, I started at 4.30 this morning and am just getting to it.

In answer to your question $69.00 Mel/Hba and Yes I have your crate, it is clean, disinfected etc and ready to go....

  9. so which company is wayrod with, he is yet to respond to the pm I sent a few days ago.

Same here Rebanne...I need to send a puppy to Cairns at the end of next week & I also sent a PM to wayrod on Sunday night, which he has not responded to yet.

I am unsure what is happening, I seem to be getting some emails/PMs and not others, and some in fact seem to be turning up 24 hours later.

I have responded to you both within the last few minutes. Let me know if you do not receive!

    Talk soon!

  10. Over the past few years there has been a tremendous amount of unhappiness with the Dog controlling bodies in the various states, and I would like to put it to the members of these organisations if you feel that it may be worth looking at the following suggestion. The canine bodies process quite a lot of our monies during any one year ,and quite often get bogged down with legal problems and management bickering amongst themselves over mostly unimportant ego trips and the pushing of their own agendas Do you think, like I do that because of these problems that continually surface from within maybe the time has come for our canine bodies to be run by full time business people doing the everyday admin . When it is all said and done there is always conflicts of interests when " dog " people are running the "dog " business. A business is exactly what it is ! Obviously there would need to be a source of consultation in regard to special matters ,but these could be handled by a professional panel ,Not involved in everyday show business. I know you are all likely to be surprised by these remarks and I would point to the results of a survey conducted last year that showed that 88% of members indicated they were unhappy with the management of Dogs' NSW. This is only intended to create some discussion and perhaps lead to some changes.

I believe that every state body is an employer for one or more dedicated staff that handle the day to day activities of running the respective organisations. Each state has a representative on the ANKC. Each state organisation then has its own Board of Directors/Management Committee or appointed representatives (Qld) to oversee the running of the State organisations, it is these people that set policy for each state and oversee the financial activities of the organisations on behalf of the membership. If members do not like what is occuring in their state (except Qld) then they can vote them out or better still they can stand for election and hopefully people of like mind will vote them in.

If you are suggesting that the whole organisation is run by full time business people including the management committees/board of directors, we had something along those lines until the late 1980s in Victoria until some members took legal action.

The "öld regime" were appointed to the then KCC Committee for their business expertise in everyday life and their abilities to administer, set policy. They had an office of full time staff of which the Secretary of the organisation was also the registrar and in charge of the daily administration of the organisation. Since then democratic elections have been conducted. Dogs Victoria office is now on its 6th CEO plus 2 acting CEOs since 1996 and has had only 5 Presidents since 1992.

Are you suggesting that the ANKC become the one and only organisation?

In the past state bickering as to who will control or have the ANKC office located in their state has caused this not to proceed any further than an a agenda item, no differently to producing only one magazine on a national basis.

Maybe it needs a referendum of all ANKC member bodies individual members to ask the question, remembering that at this stage, you may be a member of Dogs NSW but it is Dogs NSW that is a member of ANKC not you as an individual. To have an item like this would be a delicate operation to get placed as an agenda item at an ANKC Conference.

  12. Yeah ahahaha! My new one's name is Temperance but we are shortening it to call her "Tempe". I think there shall be rarely any dogs named that! You either like it or hate it I have discovered!

    Great name!

Have seen a few passing in the last little while as its the name of the forensic anthropologist on Bones.

  13. ANKC breeder's pups have to be at least 11 weeks to fly international.

    Good point!

    From ANKC Code of Ethics

    18. A member shall not export a puppy under the age of eleven [11] weeks, or such greater age permitted under the livestock import requirements of the country to which the puppy is being exported.

  14. Just a quick question. How old do pups have to be to fly international? (to NZ)

    Thanks in advance

Qantas have recently altered their protocols.

INTERNATIONAL ANIMAL TRANSPORT WITH QANTAS – GENERAL INFORMATION

When planning international transport for your pets the major considerations are the welfare and safety of the animals.

Puppies and kittens are accepted for travel and MUST BE 8 weeks or older for flights that are 14hours or less and 12 weeks or older for flights that are greater than 14hours. All puppies and kittens must be weaned prior to travel.

Where possible, arrangements for travel should be made well in advance of the planned departure.

Note: Where flight times are quoted that includes stop overs.

  15. Has anyone bought dog items from the USA?

I have just placed an order online for items valued at $148.00 (a saving of $70.00 due to the exchange rate) but Fedex charges are $48.00 and I have been told that there could also be Aust customs charges ( that would hardly make the whole deal worth doing). Fedex charges almost cancel out the savings.

Has anyone had to pay Aust customs on orders?

You have to pay GST on orders worth over AU$1000. You also need to pay if they need to treat the items at all - and they shouldn't have to if marked as new. Other than that their are no custom charges

You may also have to be concerned if Customs believe the quantity that is being brought in is a commercial quantity. In which case additional fees may be applicable.

  16. As suggested, try rewording your adverts, as for air freight between Darwin/Melbourne or Darwin/Sydney would be around $125-$150

Sorry to hijack a little, I was quoted $300 by AAE to send a 5kg to Darwin!

Can you please email (pm's are turned off) who sends for that price?

    [email protected]

    :)

    Sent you a message!

  17. I would suggest the following;

Reword the add, it is amazing how rewording and sometimes simplifying an add can get a lot more inquiries.

Also get some qoutes for freight and crate hire, one to Melbourne and one to Sydney and put that in your add, if people have an idea about what it may cost they could be more interested.

I wouldn't drop your price, but as suggested start training and mention that in your add and also mention if and when the 2nd vaccination is done should you still have him.

As suggested, try rewording your adverts, as for air freight between Darwin/Melbourne or Darwin/Sydney would be around $125-$150, if that helps. Maybe offer something additional. Subsidised transport costs, or pet insurance for 6 months, worming products, the list could be endless or even payment of transfer fee for registration papers into new owners name.

  18. The remaining enquiries are they coming for your area or they from interstate, sometimes it may not be your price but it may your price plus the cost of freight. Also remember that the older your pup is the more vaccinations that have been undertaken, all at a cost.

I agree house training, possibly even show training may be incentives.
