  1. Thanks heaps for that! The dates are 3rd and 4th September
  2. Can anyone give me the breakdown of Group numbers for these shows and total entries please? TIA
  3. What an absolute tragedy for that darling little girl and her family who were sadly already traumatised. While I know there are many great pets from this breed and crosses from them there are just as many "aggressive" dogs of these breeds and I really do think that alot of it has to do with the "type" of person attracted to owning these dogs (and not the actual dogs) especially if they like the "tough guy" image that these dogs are often used to portray. I've met many of the young male type owners; they like to have a tough dog as a projection of their own masulinity and they do not neuter the dog as it adversely affects the "tough guy" image. They are not familiar with dog behaviour and training etc. I'm sure there are many who are but the ones I have met are not. The often times "novice" owners dont understand dog behaviour or correct training and socialising. I've seen it myself many many many times. At Puppy socialisation classes there are always at least 1 or 2 of these dogs & their owners BUT the owners are unfamiliar with proper dog training and never correctly identify the breed type. They usually portray them as some other breed (many times Staffordshires) and tell the organiser of the classes that they are a cross of this breed when they clearly are not. They know that if they tell the correct breed name that they probably wont be able to take them to socialising classes or they will be shunned by the other puppy owners which would just exacerbate the problem further. Many of these pups are friendly and outgoing but some of them are not but with correct training from dog savvy people would make great pets but alas they are owned by totally clueless people and once they start having problems instead of getting some one on one professional training hide the dogs in the backyard away from people which then creates a serious vicious cycle. Who knows the full story of how the incident occurred and it may have been a series of very unfortunate events or maybe the owner knew the dog had a problem and thats why it was kept behind very high fences and never seen by the neighbours & accidentally escaped? I really dont know what the answer is but I feel sick to the stomach for this poor little girl and her family and friends. RIP little girl
  4. A $13 entry should cover their fee & if their fee is too much then the committee should make the decision not to pay them for doing it and take up the slack as we did when I was on committee's. 10 + years of donated time etc etc etc like alot of people here I'm sure. Agree with this. If all shows had the cheaper group catalogues available I would buy them which I do when they have them but not all shows have this on offer. If the entries can be all computerised with a good program like the dog show super's use overseas it wouldn't take much extra time to set up the catalogues and its an easy thing to make the downloadable cat's password protected. Nice to see that some people care about the older generation on pensions that can't afford to buy the catalogues but still love to show as their chosen hobby
  5. At a show once some pet owners had a large breed intact adult male dog that was walking off lead while we were walking 2 of our dogs and it came bounding over and attacked our dogs one of which was being walked by my young son at the time. The owners slowly walked over from a long distance away and it was up to me to protect my 2 dogs and my young child. It was a very traumatic experience for all of us and the main dog of mine that was attacked was always distrustful of that breed whenever he saw them for the rest of his life. The owners were pathetic and didnt even know what to do to help. I ended up at the doctors with stitches and infections. My child could have been killed or maimed. It was just horrible. We reported it to the show committee right afterward but since the people were not entered in the show there was nothing they could do. So I answered No, never!
  6. That cost should be added into the cost of running the show as it is part of the show expenses. I wouldn't mind paying an extra dollar for my entries if the catalogue was included.
  7. I can only afford to buy a catalogue (dogalogue) for the bigger shows and royals, specialties etc. After paying entries, petrol, road tolls etc etc the addded expense of a cat just takes it out of my reach but if they were cheaper I would happily buy them. An online catalogue that we can print out ourselves the day before would be an excellent option for us poor people

  10. Does anyone know if this show will be indoors or outdoors? TIA
  11. I totally agree and I dont care about the excuses or reasons made by certain people as to why its "OK" for them to show their dogs in such extreme heat. IT IS cruel and putting show results before the welfare of the animals who dont have any choice in the matter. I fail to see how any dog or human can be better off at a show than at home resting and staying as cool as possible on days of extreme heat. I would like to see the extreme temperature rules come into effect at 35 or 36 degrees instead of 40. That is extreme! 5 degrees is a huge difference and does effect man and beast alike.
  12. Firstly I must be able to trust the bitch owner/s and have similar philosophies and goals - the bitch must be health tested with acceptable results (they dont have to be perfect) - the bitch must compliment my dog and vice-versa - Must be similar type to my dog - temperament must be good - must be registered but not necessarily titled - color must be acceptable genetically for the mating
  13. Mine are usually double birth weight or alot of the time double plus a third or double and a half again.
  14. You make it sound so simple to just move the show to the next day - What about the Judges, Committee & show staff ?? They have lives outside of showing & most would not be available to just turn up the next day. Of course I know it may not be possible and not easy to do but if you read my OP I simply asked if "its" at all possible? The judges are all Victorians so it may just be do-able?????????
