  1. I would strongly recommend that only very very experienced and committed dog owners even consider getting a Tibetan Mastiff. They are regal and beautiful dogs that should never have left their own country.

And please please do not be fooled into getting one just because the breeder has a fancy website and says that they health test and only breed dogs with good temperaments. Visit the breeder and the dogs more than once and in different situations/locations.

I could go on but it would take forever..

Oh and I don't know about other countries but some TMs here drool so don't think you'll automatically luck out on that.

If you are looking at giant breeds there are so many others that would be easier to train with less risk.

I'd like to add that my Basset Hound doesn't look intimidating.. but out of all the dogs I have owned she is the only one I can say without doubt would protect me at home or while out walking.

  2. The more time I spend around dogs the less breeds there are on my list, I have learn't that many breeds just don't suit us or our lives.

    Currently I am at:

Samoyed (can never have enough Sammie's)

    Bullmastiff

    Afghan or Borzoi

    Keeshond

Karelian Bear Dog (need to import one into the country first)

Hahaha.. glad to be of service narrowing your breed choices ;)

I like the way so many people have been adventurous in looking at the less well known breeds. Like, I'm happy to see at least two people putting Tibetan Mastiffs on their list. If you ever get one, can I have visiting rights? :)

I'm just adding 4 breeds that I think are hidden gems in the dog world:

    Cardigan Corgi

    Smooth Collie

Welsh Springer Spaniel (where did that glorious colouring come from?)

    Standard Poodles

Interesting thing is Tibetan Mastiffs are not a breed I would recommend to anyone but.. maybe Lilli  I lucked out that Indira is 'broken' :D

    Irish Wolfhound

    Cane Corso

    Dogue De Bordeaux

  3. His feet are ENORMOUS.. he's going to be a monster.. and no name yet.. I will decide what to call him over the weekend. ;)

Yes BJ we must meet up so you can meet Indira and her widdle brudder  and of course fatfat.. who I can't really call fat anymore cause she reached her goal weight! :D I'm going to Melbourne to show Indira this weekend and won't be back until Wed but what are your movements next weekend (25th/26th)?

  4. I really didn't like the class environment.. it stresses me out which stresses Indira out and I just hate it. I'm doing one-on-one classes with Indira and really enjoying it so I'll probably do the same with new pup.

Although i do want him socialised with other dogs so we can always meet up somewhere :D

  5. Jibba may have been confused with the pics from the breeder? And there were some female black and tan pups.. but I'm not sure what's going on there.. that's my boy.. there was a sequence of photos and that's the cutest one :birthday:

    and here's another I took :)

  6. Ok i will take 20 (will contact them). We will also put some flyers around town and up at work. I would be happy to take the horse float down and transport if any locals or Canberans would like some?

Ooh... I might take you up on that... a few people at work have shown interest...

Do you need to pay when you collect them or beforehand?

  7. Well it would be best if they award before we go in the ring so she has no chance to be the disobedient little turd she has been for the last week :o It must be hormonal or something.. in the last 4 days, she has munched a DVD cover (hired), 2 cd covers, a pair of sunglasses, a pen, ripped apart a shrub in the backyard and last night tried to run off with my handbag

  8. If it's horrendously cold/muddy I will wear dark denim jeans.. they are warmer and hold up better under pressure.. plus they don't show up drool as much.

I did however just purchase a 'coral' jacket and skirt set that I suppose will have to be debuted at some stage.. *sigh* I don't like skirts.. plus it's canberra.. think of the frostbite people!

  9. Just drop him off at my place and Ruffles can keep him warm :)

Seriously though, as long as you provide somewhere warm and dry he will use it when he realises he has to stay outside. I used to put a heated wheat bag in the kennel with Ruffles until she decided it looked tasty.

The girls cuddle up and lay in the sun if they get cold.

Plus Indira is a tibetan dog with a freakishly warm thick coat so no probs there.
