I had to answer "other" because I have 5 - and they all sleep in different places!! Zoom (16) on the bed, in his bed. Tom (14-ish) on his bed, next to my bed. Arella (9) & Moss (8) - either in their trailer (wild weather) or in the porch on either of their two couches. Meg (3) outside, guarding the boats! The chooks sleep in the chook shed... btw!! :D Sonia

Thanks for this thread... I lost a little piece of my when my old girl Sally left for the Bridge on 29/7. Fortunately there are many many memories that make me smile and even laugh... but every now and then the tears flow and I can't stop them. I miss her so. Nawww, I sure hope so. I have been missing my girl the last few days. She's been gone almost 6 months, but it only feels like yesterday... (sniff)

Yorke Peninsula, SA... I know it's not where you specified, but it IS beautiful, friendly, has land available near or on the beach and has GREAT beaches. South Beach, Port Hughes Chinamen Wells edit to add: tick free, low rate of heartworm no times for free running on our beaches (Copper Coast Council) do have a 2 dog limit in town / 3 dogs out of town limits land/house available near and on the beach some transience in our community but not what I'd call a high crime rate lower socio-economic, but many retirees and decent shopping facilities

Moss & Arella will get a 6am run at the beach. Meg will get to round up the chooks for 15 minutes. Zoom will get an extra fish head with his breakkie. And Tom will get to sit on someone's lap to watch tv for 20 minutes. Oh, hang on... every day is Christmas day at my place!!!

Hmmm, never had any issues with this one - my dog, my choice... :D Having lived "bush" for a few years with the vet an hour away has made me pretty good at removing stitches and administering meds etc... things most people can do themselves with a minimum of "training".

Sally was an eater - her "best" score was a Freddo from an individually wrapped multi-pack THAT WAS CLOSED & ON THE DINING ROOM TABLE!!! If I hadn't walked in and caught her at it, Mr Haf would have copped the blame for that one!! - chillies (off the plant!) - capsicums - beans (oh heck - the whole veggie garden has been attacked at some point!) - sticks - firewood (gnaws on the ends) - string - little stones - anything plastic - chook poop - chook food - etc etc etc Worst thing she ever ate was rat bait from under the neighbours house.. Expensive little vet trip, that one!

If you had been here for your 17th birthday today, there would have been steak for tea... your favourite! Who am I kidding? You wouldn't have cared if it was a piece of manky old chicken... you'd have eaten it all the same... Miss you so much, but some days, like today, more than others.... Sally

ok, glad it's changed to the 13th as I now find I'm busy on the 6th (relaxing before taking 52x 9 & 10 year olds on camp!!! )... Will watch the thread for update...

I'm so glad your poor doggy is ok... it must have been very scary. Bones not to feed include: - CUT bones (like osso bucco) - WEIGHT bearing bones (leg bones from beef animals) - COOKED bones NOTHING can ever be 100% safe, but following these guidelines makes feeding bones safer.

Sally: picked her from a litter of 5 pups - 4 boys and Sally. Wanted a girl. BYB breeder (didn't know any better 17 years ago!) Very quickly became my heart dog. Miss her terribly. Zoom: ad in paper, reg'd (but really BY) breeder, couldn't leave him there - terrible conditions. Did loads of obedience training with him and developed a strong bond, but whenever my OH is around, Zoom belongs to him!! Jess: found her listed as a 10 week old on a rescue site somewhere, 10 years ago. Owner had bought her in to Perth from Adelaide and found out she was just too much to handle. Gorgeous puppy and became a decent working dog. Kept a beautiful pup from her first litter - Dusty, but gave him to ppl who bought a pup that then died at age 3 months (snake, possibly). Got him back at age 12 months after they didn't bond with him and he was mistreated. Couldn't then keep him as I had the Salukis by then and although he got along with them really well, he was a fence jumper and I didn't want to keep him chained up all day while I was at work. Gave him to friends where he still works their goats and deer to this day. Best decision for him and for us, but loved him dearly. Arella: waited 12 months for her litter to be born, picked her grizzle sister who unfortunately died. 4 months later breeder contacted me and said she was willing to send me Arella (then Angel) who she no longer could care for as her health (breeder's not dog's!) was declining and she couldn't get out to shows any more. Collected Arella at 5 months of age from my mum's (who collected her from the airport) on my 30th birthday and fell in LOVE - Arella, not so much... She's fairly... independent!! :D Moss: Arella's half-brother who flew from Perth at 10 weeks of age, about a year after Arella was born. He bonded strongly with me and is definitely "my dog". He is my favourite, since Sally has gone, and he knows it. :D Meg: From Jess's 2nd litter (unplanned!! ) when she was no longer living with us. Had a terribly difficult time getting to bond with her because she was so feral and so unruly. Now that she's 3 and has settled somewhat, she's actually really fun to train because she's very smart. She's really starting to grow on me.

I do my block (20 - 30 min) in the mornings, winter & summer on lead. I do bush tracks during winter and the beach in summer. And yes, I do stress about snakes - esp. when I had the little dogs and could walk them offlead. My dogs are mainly walked on lead anyway (Salukis), except at quiet times at the beach.

No collar on at home here either. I have never had an incident, but have heard too many stories about hangings and twisting with jaws. While mine don't play roughly with each other, I'd rather be safe/r than sorry. I would be on the phone to our local ranger within 30 minutes if I didn't know where they were. This past week I had the first escape ever that didn't involve an open gate or broken fence. I usually walk in the morning before work and take turns with which dog I take each day. I had taken Moss (Saluki) on the Tuesday and opted to take Meg (Kelpie) the next day. As I arrived home, Mr Hafhafa came out to tell me that he had just let Moss in the front gate and he was full of burrs - had he got away from me? Nope - I left him in the porch with his sister, with the door open to the backyard and the gates between back & front shut. How the heck did he get out?? We couldn't see any broken fence/s etc and all gates were still closed, so we decided to try again tomorrow and Mr Hafhafa would watch to see where he was getting out. (Then we spent 15 minutes de-burring!! ) Next day - I took the Kelpie again and left Moss & Arella in the porch, gates & doors same as the previou day. Mr Hafhafa followed his movemnets from inside - Moss dashed out to the side gate from where he can see me leave via the front gate. Then dashed around the back, onto the mound of dirt we excavated 2 weeks ago to bury the new r/w tank and onto the top of the (7ft) stone wall, down into the paddock on the other side!!! I was away from home when Sally slipped into a comatose state overnight. She was very old and very sick and would not make it home. My mum called her vet for me and also had one of her friends come over to drive me there. There was no way Sally was leaving my arms 'til she was gone. I did have to wait a little while, but the vet was off for the day and came in especially for me. She was really caring and kind, gave me all the time I needed with Sally to say goodbye. I settle the account as I left and 5 days later received a sympathy card, handwritten, from the vet. Dealt with very professionally, yet in an empatheic and caring manner. I'm very grateful to the vet and staff. I called my own vet when I got home a few days later and got the vet nurse - she cried with me on the phone as I explained what had happened and when I spoke to my vet later that day about another dog, he expressed his sympathies as well.

3 males, 2 females (was 3 til recently) all my boys are desexed, but one just recently. he gets cross with one of the other boys when his sister is in season, but otherwise they're fine - having said that, I just looked over and those 2 guys are lying together on the bed next to me!! my boy who's been desexed 9+ years is painful when the girls are in season the one who's just been done couldn't care less!! go figure. the girls don't get along at all - hate the sight of each other, have had stitches!! they're both entire & I won't keep bitches together again
