  1. This woman had brought 4 other kittens to the RSPCA all very sick. She knew the RSPCA is not a private practice and could only treat animals surrendered to them. She knew this because she had done it 4 times previously.... Five sick kittens , rushing into vet at night... 4 out of 5 too sick to save.... If they DIDNT look into her, I would be more annoyed!!!
  2. It is quite flat, I suppose some dogs will, some wont.. :)

  4. People boycotting the SA million paws walk probably has more to do with the RSPCA raiding Moorook Animal Shelter and seizing some animals, a few of whom were then euthanised. There's been a lot of furor over it by Moorook and supporters, who held a rally demanding accountability by the RSPCA. I think a second rally might be planned for the same day as the million paws walk. This annoys me! The RSPCA received COMPLAINTS about this shelter. What were they supposed to do? Ignore them and cop the abuse of "doing nothing" or investigate and still cop abuse... Is it really going to help the animals of SA if one of their fundraisers is ambushed.... Is Moorook shelter going to take all of them now??? Wow, nice work SA.??? The blurb said he was the face of the million paws walk, failed the temperament, because he turned his head away when they wanted to look at his teeth - not bit, just turned his head, and then he got the chop. What a load of crap! I have seen dogs that mouth, have drawn blood and jump and are nervous that are NOT pts, but are put through daily one on one training to enable them to be rehomed! There is NO way that is true! Really does it even sound remotely true?? Have you actually been out and volunteered at a RSPCA shelter to at least see how hard these people work to help and how passionate they are about all animals?? Go out, make your own decisions... Just because it is on facebook or a forum does not make it true! There are so many trolls who love to stir the pot and cause trouble and people fall for it all the time..... people are so quick to think badly of something, especially if it makes them feel morally superior.... The RSPCA is not a perfect organisation. None are. But they certainly do not deserve the blanket condemnation that they receive from a lot of people. I havent read all of this thread as it will just upset me needlessly! I do know that the RSPCA was ASKED to temporarily assist with the shelter at Ipswich. It was not a 'hostile takeover' - they were asked..... Edited for spelling.
  5. I am literally in stitches watching that, thankyou so much. I can't believe how quirky our dogs are & the things that scare them, keep them coming people I am loving the replies. You are welcome!! I love it too!!
  6. I know a big, burly, ex navy, heavily tattoo'd, biker, Vietnam Veteran who used to have a Pomeranian named 'Eyebrow'. He used to travel around Australia in their car and caravan.
  7. Tara (Doberling Miss Marika) dobermann 13yrs old. Given her wings in 2004 after a seemingly minor fall that she never recovered from. I still think of her most days and hold off getting another dobe because I know they will have a hard time meeting my expectations. ETA - she is the black beauty on my AV.
  8. One of my black +tan dobie pups had a white spot on her chest. As she grew it got smaller and smaller. It went to 2 hairs and then completely disappeared. So yes it may 'fade'.
  9. Gordon Country is a great spot. We are set up to not to need to use the 'facilities' so cant comment on them. We went for a week last year and had a wonderful time. Only advice would be is to take a chainsaw if you have one. There is lots of wood to collect but a chainsaw would make it so much easier (trees on the ground only!!) . We took an axe and it was quite a work out for OH for the week!! Creek is a great spot for kids and dogs to play (mums and dads too!). We camped across the creek from the amenities block. 3 families ( 2 camper trailers and 1 tent) I am sure you will have a fabulous time. Get there early though, as I expect a lot of people will be out camping these holidays as the Xmas ones were a disaster!!
  10. I LOVE German Pinchers.. I keep tossing up between a GP or an English Pointer or a Dobie.........
  11. I think some of the assumptions about this dogs owners are a bit unfair. - Micro chipping is not compulsory in every state. AND only in Qld for abut 12mths or so. There are valid reasons for it not being microchipped. - No one knows for sure how old exactly the dog is. The vet estimates it to be this age. The vet is only estimating. The dog could be 6-10months older than this quite easily. It just takes a smaller (or crossed) lab to put their guess out. - Has none of you 'responsible' dog owners ever had a bitch on heat and despite your best efforts a dog gets to them? Well you are quite lucky. My girl once broke thru a door to get to a male on the other side when she was on heat. - Dogs get out of yards. Someone may leave a gate open or not realise a dog is there when coming in or out. The wind can scare or blow open gates. Who knows? But you cant assume it is because the owner is irresponsible (it may be so, but WE dont know) it can happen to anyone. You are assuming that the owner is not heart brokenly searching for their dog. How do you know how far this dog traveled? She may have gone several suburbs from home. I agree with greymate that you can NOT make too many plans about the pups or this dog UNTIL the owner has been attempted to be found. YOU must follow the correct process in contacting council and pound. Sure you may have got crap info when you originally called, but TRY again. If it was your dog that was missing wouldnt you hope that who ever found her would look after her AND try to find you? AND not just assume you are not worthy.

  13. One of the Ipswich City councillors is a DOL member. I hope he comes on to comment. Cr Andrew Antoniolli ETA name of councillor
  14. And it starts.... Link
  15. When I was originally deciding what breed of dog to get. It was a toss up between a dobe and Ridgie! But the one ridgie i knew had an amazing ability to droooooollll. That sold it for me. Dobies dont have the drool that goes from mouth to floor!! (well the ones I knew anyway! )
  16. Is it really such a big deal? They were obviously impressed with the way you have worded things and used it too. Too be honest who really cares? It is not hurting your site. It is not hurting you physically. They are not making money directly from it. IMO just let it go. There are a lot of bigger things to get upset about.
  17. My dobie girl was calm and placid which is not something that is said of dobes often, particularly when they are young. She was most happiest sitting at (read ON) my feet or with my (then) young son leaning on her to play xbox or read a book. She was very aware of my emotions and would respond accordingly. She was protective of my family and home but NEVER, EVER aggressive. I only heard her growl maybe 2 or 3 times in her 13yrs. One of those times was when a 'friend' of my X husband came close to me, he was someone I did NOT like or trust and he actually scared me a bit, she gave a warning rumble when he came close to me and he didnt do so again! Tara was very clean and a complete lady. She loved training and responded VERY quickly. It was important to know that she picked things up very quickly so to be careful not to train things accidentally. For eg. I used to call her over to me when she was a puppy and she would sit in front of me, look up and wait. When we started puppy training we would walk, then stop and instead of sitting beside me she would walk in front and sit then look up at me for what to do next!! My close friend had a GSD (Hamish) and my girl used to play together regularly. The biggest difference I saw was the hair! Oh, my goodness.... the hair balls and tufts of hair that Hamish used to lose have put me off owning a long haired breed ever since. My girl passed away about 6yrs ago and I still think of her regularly. I would LOVE another dobie, but am a bit scared I will be disappointed or overwhelmed with the energy and hyper ness of the dobies I read about on here!! I regularly check all dobie breeder websites so I expect one day I will have another.
  18. ;) I am very disappointed about this. AND quite scared about the follow on from it.
  19. What is wrong with sitting in the gutter of a cul-de-sac with some other children!! You are seriously not going to say this is wrong and the parents or kids are at fault for sitting in front of their house!!! Why cant a dog just be a 'bad' dog, why is there always an excuse? I dont believe in BSL, but I DO believe if a child is bitten by a dog then it should be PTS. ESPECIALLY in this case where it appears to have been unprovoked. OH ETA... in my 40+ years I HAVE seen dogs of all and any breed be aggressive.. I comes back to the individual dog. You cant claim that ALL huskies are not aggressive the same as you cant claim that ALL pitbulls are. You cant have it both ways.
  20. This is very scary! I have an amstaff X ACD but registered her as an ACD X purely for this exact reason. It will mean the beginning of the end for all breeds deemed dangerous by people who have no idea . eg Rotties, Dobes even German Shepherds. I pray Tango wins. ETA What is even scarier are the idiot comments! Do people really think BSL is a good thing???? People are so short sighted, they dont see where this will lead.
