Hi everyone, would it be ok to us time out in the loo when the dog is out side whining and barking for no reason? As long as you use a marker. And if so would you leave him in there for only a few minutes and then straight back outside?

Why not simply teach QUIET?

Swain, the difficulty arises when you are not there to control the barking. Bad habits are very easily learnt, most trainers would say, easier (less reps) than good habits/behaviour.

If he is barking/whining to get your attention, the mere fact that you go outside to bring him in will serve as a reinforcer - probably one that is more valuable than any toilet can undo.
