Perth Meet Up / Play Dates?

None of my friends have dogs and I would love my boy balto to have some friends when he gets here next week. He is a 9 month old Tamaskan dog.

Wow! The Tamaskan dog is pretty damn rare! I'd love to meet up with one of these just to have a look. Two of my dogs are fine with meeting other dogs, but the third needs to be introduced to other dogs in a controlled way so a 'play date' with a lot of other dogs really is not a viable option.

I am in Perth (Bayswater).

Cheers,

ricey

I'm in Morley :-D controlled meeting is fine for me, baltos recall is not reliable so I don't let him off lead in public.

Yeah, Hobbes' rcall ain't that fantastic either. I'm in Bayswater. Hobbes is a Pit Bull and he is fine with other dogs but he does need to be introduced to them properly. My other dogs are Lulu (shih tsu/silky cross); Lizzie (corgi/dingo/ferret/otter cross) but Hobbes is the one who is good with kids and people.

Sorry ricey - I dont have the internet anymore and completely forgot about this post. I am now in banksia grove. I have taken Balto once to Riverside Gardens down in Bayswater. Would like to do it again, its now just a matter of having the petrol to take him down (stupid car eats it like mad)

Hi Kylie,

apologies for taking this long to reply. I don't visit DOL that much, and I missed your post. My wife takes Lizzie the corgi/dingo/kelpie/ferret cross and Lulu the Maltese/Shih Tsu/Silkie/hyaena cross to Riverside Gardens most days, but Hobbes does not go there. It is a little bit too uncontrolled for him and it would end in tears.

I live 350m from the Frank Drago Reserve on the corner of Garratt Road and Whatley Crescent int Bayswater. This a soccer ground, but it is also one of the best off-lead dog parks in Perth. Totally surrounded by Cyclone fencing, with only the car entrance open to the road. Very few dogs! (and those dogs that get there mostly know each other and are socialised). Always well supplied with poo bags (it is a soccer ground frequented by kids, and nobody wants their kid to put their soccer boots in dog poo).

Hobbes is an old dog now, probably around 13 years old or more. I have owned him for 12 years (more like he has owned me for 12 years). Hobbes is fine with other dogs if he is introduced in a controlled manner. I like to get him around other dogs and most times he is a perfect gentleman. He can be little noisy and he used to be a bit boisterous but nowadays he is just an old dog. He is good with kids and he is great with puppies.

I hope I haven't scared you off; Hobbes is a fine dog but I like to be honest about him. He is an American Pit Bull terrier, but he is just another dog.

And I'd love to see your Tamaskan dog. My understanding is that they resemble grey wolves but are slightly bigger.

Cheers,

ricey

Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone goes to whiteman park dog park?

Generally only go there as its semi close and friendly on my dog who can get a little car sick at times.

I have a ~9 month old japanese spitz and i take him down on the weekends or whenever i can!

He is a well tempered dog and friendly, can be a bit naughty and ignore my recalls every now and then.

Not trained off the lead but he is always by me when in the fenced off park but when he isnt surrounded by fences and gates he can be very mischievous! Playing chasey with me and obeying recalls..

Always on a lead when out in public but i let him off only in fenced off dog parks or back yard :)

Sorry in advance if i dont get back to you asap, dont go on dol as much as i wish to!

Keen to hear back from fellow perth dol members anyways :)

Michael

Hi Michael

My boy (Border Collie) won't be ready to be out socialising until mid-late November (after his 12 weeks vacs) but we will be frequenting Whiteman Park dog park very often (on weekends, anyway!) as soon as we are able. If you're still around at that time, we will keep an eye out for you!

Cheers

Jas

Wow! This thread is still going but nobody has met up with anybody yet.

I am still up for a Perth meet with me and my geriatric pit bull, Hobbes. Hobbes, the poor old bugger is around 13 or 14 years old and he hasn't realised that he is close to death. He still thinks he is a puppy. Hey, I'm 57 and I think I'm still a puppy!

So, a meet at the Frank Drago reserve is still on the cards.

Cheers,

ricey

that can be fixed my boy turbo use ignore me on recall but I left the lead on him and wen he started running off where he shouldn't be I jogged and stood on the lead (but my dog wears a harness cos its better for them) and it gave him a little bit of a clothes line pull but it work still always working on recall and I get a lot of ppl at my dog park that if they wont let them off the lead then just drop the lead and it works

that's how I started trusting my dog to be off lead and treats work to

OK, I am going to do something that everyone advises you not to do on a public forum. I am going to tell you who I am.

My name is Peter, my mobile phone number is 0419 949 367, and I live in Garratt Road in Bayswater about 400 metres from the Frank Drago off-lead dog park. My e-mail address is [email protected]

I have a geriatric American pit bull terrier called Hobbes who is usually good with other dogs if he has been introduced to them properly. Hobbes is 13 maybe 14 years old.

Hobbes has been used by a couple of dog trainers to socialise "rambunctious puppys". He is generally good with other dogs, but he certainly doesn't take any shit from them.

I think it is time we all met; maybe first time we will have to do that on lead but that is no great problem.

E-mail me, text me, phone me or message me on DOL. Lets start this.

Cheers,

ricey
