Hi Dolers,

Wondering if anyone could help us with the questions below?

How much does the keeshond shed?

How big is the keeshond compared to a Japanese Spitz?

We have a JS at the moment and are thinking about our second dog but we're bit worried the keeshond is too big. Please help! :)

Almost twice as big as a JP. But they are nice natured, and should not be a problem. They shed a bit but not much if groomed....and they must be groomed, otherwise they mat.

The correct heights at withers, according to the breed standards are:

Keeshonds - Dogs 46 cms (18 ins), Bitches 43 cms (17 ins)

Japanese Spitz - Dogs 34-37 cms (13.5 - 14.5 ins), Bitches 30-34 cms (12 - 13.5 ins)

So the size difference depends on what size JS you have. A 12" JS bitch is a lot small than an 18" male Keeshond but a 14.5" Male JS is not all that much smaller than a 17" Keeshond bitch. Also keep in mind that a lot of pet JS are well oversize of the upper limit of 14.5" and 15-16" is not uncommon.
