When And If To Desex...?

Hi All MB lover's.

Have become a new BM (Bullmastiff) owner recently and love the breed and their personalities and everything about them.

My question which I'm sure has been asked before is in regards to desexing.

I have heard mixed opinions on whether to desex or not and then there is the when question.

I have heard better earler (6 months), better late (18 months) etc.

I am concerned mostly that it will effect growth, head size etc.

Any inputs would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Male or female? May you could easily leave entire. Female I would desex at 2 years. Early desexing is definitely not better, especially for giant breeds. They need hormones to grow correctly and achieve correct bone density.

Thanks fornthe replies... Breeder said to wait till a minumum of 12 months. Other brreders i have spoken to have said 6 months.

I think inwill wait till he is around 18months to let him grow.

Last thing i want is to restrict his growth.

It doesn't restrict his growth as such, it delays closure of the growth plates which can make the dog taller but leaner. The males look more feminine in my opinion. Bone density and the angles of joints can be negatively impacted.
