  1. Guess acute sense of smell doesn't come into it...mine can smell things inside that's coming from outside when fast asleep. Blows in under the doors [or through window gaps]. The other week Scout woke up to the smell of an echidna that was at least 20 meters away from the house. Took me a while to find it, but just followed where his nose led him and he stood looking.

$600 for that training??!! More money that sense - but there are always the gullible I suppose frown.gif

  2. Had the first pudding poo tonight...inside frown.gif Right in the middle of having dinner laugh.gif

But after reading this thread, thinking it may have been a combination of him eating his log today and training treats [nature's gift chicken mini's] and re-eating them again via the log..

He's been doing nice firm logs since he came home over 2 weeks ago, so it was a bit of a surprise. But starting his clicker training now so I should've expected it.

I just gave him his kibble tonight in the hopes it may help in firming him up, have to wait until later to see the after effects laugh.gif

in regards to reward training, will add in more verbal praise with just a few treats to keep him focused [he only does a 5-10 minute on lead training session, then a few sessions inside, working on sit/drop/come etc.].

    cheer.gif YaY to puppy bowels

  3. Still find the odd bit of husky hair and they've been gone for over 8 years [first one passed in 2000/2nd in 2002/3rd in 2005] - can't help but go awwww Nookal/Tusc/Tash hair [depending on colour] frown.gif

Get a bit of hair off the Boxers, but not the giant tumbleweeds of old lol

  4. That was definitely a close call eek1.gif

Had a mini river here last night and the dogs had a ball running in the water under the veranda [it always gets like a mini river here when there's a lot of rain in one go and eventually just moves away].

  5. So far after the initial puppy price...

$35 for a bag of RC Boxer Junior

    $20 on puppy loaf

    $10 Collar

$1.45 plastic luggage tag for ID

Toys are hand me downs of Scout's [just filled an old washing basket full and the pup goes to it and drags out what he wants].

    Bed shared with Scout.

    Blanket, one of Scout's spares.

Coat, cut down and remade from one of Scout's old weatherbeeta kennel ones [and a coles blue bag for the straps for the chest/belly] already had the sew on velcro.

Only 13 weeks atm so not had next lot of vaccinations.

Do have a voucher that came with his vaccination card to do desexing within 6 months for $115 [but will more than likely go through my normal vet for this procedure when they give the ok to do so].

Guess it helps having an older dog, have most of everything already on hand smile.gif plus I like making things laugh.gif

  6. Came across this when looking at Sploid, don't really have any words to describe what I'm thinking except...poor dog :( There's a video of Pig on the page

    http://sploid.gizmodo.com/believe-it-or-not-this-is-a-real-dog-not-a-photoshop-1587328606

Pig—the name of this Akita mutt—is not one of those ridiculous photoshops of animals with short necks. She was born like this in the woods northeast of Atlanta. Nobody gave a damn for her life except her owner, Kim Dillenbeck: "The lady who found her, the vet told her to have her put down."

I met some of her neighbors who came over for Christmas breakfast, and after hearing about Pig, we all went to her house. I bonded with Pig right away. I thought I'd either be with her or near her helping her find a home.

Pretty quickly, I decided to be her mother because she probably wouldn't live. We assumed that by now, she would be suffocating under her own organs, or something like that, because of her shape.

Pig is missing part of her spine, several ribs, and "her hips and joints are rotated in the wrong positions." But, according to Dillenbeck, "Pig doesn't know there's anything wrong with her." She's now eight months old and 15 pounds, which about less than half the weight a dog of her size and age should be.

However, don't smile and go awwwwww just yet. The sad news is that Pig is not fully grown yet, as Dillenbeck told Al.com: "She's still gaining weight. At this point, she has the potential to gain another 20 pounds, and that would probably kill her." Dillenbeck says she feels very lucky to have Pig in her life, even while she knows she's going to die sooner than a normal dog.

But that is life. Until that sad moment comes, she'll be happy and very loved. And that's all that matters, really.

  7. My boy was desexed at 6 months and last year at 7 he was playing with the Kelpie next door. She was on her back and Scout was straddled over her. She was kicking him and hit his joyful spot which made him air hump and his penis stuck out with an erection and wouldn't go back in [he was very upset over it]. Same used to happen to my entire Sibe. So I just grabbed a cold water compress [folded old towel] and held it to him until his erection went down and the penis went back in - took about 2-3 minutes.

  8. vanillan  Well, Done you!!

Coming here and listening - then sending that sms - that took courage :)

A very important lesson has been learned ..and I hope you continue to add to your new found store of the perils and pitfalls of pugs !! :D

Ask away when you think you've found your breeder ...

    good luck!

+1 glad people are asking questions before letting people take them for a ride and take their money.

Definitely sounds like a deshonko puppy maker :(

  9. There was only about 5 who didn't have posted phone numbers out of 30 odd. Sometimes you just have to be patient with emails as depending on what the breeder does, they can be busy busy. I'd usually wait at least a week before resending an email to them.
