  1. My daughter, her husband and their 3 children would like to adopt a rescue dog and as we don't generally rescue larger breeds I was hoping that someone here could recommend a suitable dog for them. The children are a boy who is 3 and two girls, one is 6 and the other 9 years. They live on the Northern Beaches and are very close to Bayview dog beach, large off leash parks and there are many great places to walk the dog. My daughter is prepared to walk the dog everyday, she will take it to and from school when she picks up and drops off, and it will basically spend all of its time with the family in the car or at home, my daughter does not go out to work. The family have two cats who are not dog savvy but they have plenty of places to go in the house to get away from a dog and I am sure they will adjust. The dog must not be a cat chaser. They would like a large breed dog male or female up to 5 years of age (no puppies) who is calm and well behaved. The dog must be brilliant with children (no jumping/mouthing etc) the dog must be perfect with other dogs as they will socialize it on a daily basis. The dog can't have any separation anxiety or be a barker. Their home is large and they have a very big deck that is the length of their house and very wide, the deck has a gate that closes automatically. It is on the first floor of the house not at ground level so the dog wouldn't be able to jump off the deck at all. I know its a big ask but it is important that they get the right dog or it is not going to work. They are a lovely family who adore their animals and will give the right dog a wonderful home. If anyone can suggest a suitable dog please email me on [email protected] Thank you Denise at Paws. www.deniseatpaws.com.au
  2. I have been speaking to a lady who is desperately searching for a Fox Terrier male having just lost her little Foxie who was about 16 years old. She is very specific in regards to the size, sex, age and type of dog she is looking to adopt. The lady is 74 years young, she lives in a very nice apartment with a large balcony where she has artificial grass for the dog to toilet on, she also walks her dog down to a small park not far from her apartment several times a day. The lady is not terribly active and suffers with a bad back, she has a lot of love to give a little dog and if we can find her the right dog it will have a lovely home, the dog is allowed on the couch, her lap and will sleep on her bed, she has had many dogs over the years and I believe she is a good dog owner. The dog can't weigh anymore than 4kg, less would be preferably, around 6 years old and not a bouncy dog, one that has been in foster care so is house trained, it must be a Fox Terrier and she prefers a male dog but could be open to a female? The lady lives at Eastwood and does not drive. I did put a dog with this lady but she was to heavy for her weighing about 6kgs. If you can help please email me and I will give you all of her details. [email protected] Thank you. Denise at Paws.

  4. How many years have you had Neville? it feels like he has been around longer than Grace. Andrea is so lucky having you look after her puppies, she could not ask for a better foster carer. Denise
  5. I am a huge Neville fan and love those puppies. How are you ever going to part with them Dru?
  6. Hi Nina, Your message didn't come through. Please email me [email protected] Thanks, Denise

  11. Hi Nell, I am so sorry to hear that Jasper passed away. It is the most dreadful time and the sorrow that you feel is over whelming. The love that you and your family had for Jasper was amazing with all that you did to try and keep him with you for as long as possible. Cry whenever you need to Nell it will help, you are right when you say that you feel some of your soul went with Jasper, I felt that to when I lost Boof and cry often because I miss him so much. Jasper was a lucky boy and I am sure that your Mum will paint a lovely picture of him to hang in the house where you can see him always. Love Denise PAWS
  12. Hi Nell, I have not been into the Palliative Care Forum for months but did today. I am so sorry to hear that Jasper has come out of remission, I know just how you feel and of course you have to give Jasper every opportunity to stay with you for as long as possible. All the best to Jasper and your family, Denise PAWS
  13. My beautiful Boof was put to sleep on Sunday 23rd November at 2.30pm. Unfortunately Boof didn't respond to a 3rd Chemotherapy protocol and became very sick really quickly. Boof will be sadly missed by my family but the memories we have of Boof will stay forever in our hearts and minds. Rest in peace our beautiful boy. Denise
  14. Dear Lucy Charzie, I am so sorry to hear that you have lost Charlotte with this shocking cancer. Charlotte was so young being only 6 years old, your family must be devastated. We feel blessed to have had Boof for 11 years and hope that he can stay with us for Christmas, everything is being done that can be done to keep him well and comfortable but I do feel that we are close to losing the fight. Boof has a strong will and extremley good Vets taking care of him, hopefully he will get a message to us when his time has come and we will let him go peacefully. Thank you again Staffyluv for your good wishes. Denise PAWS
  15. Hi Staffyluv, My Vet recommended that I Boof put on Omega Oils and Vitamins and he was not permitted to eat any raw meat. Boof has been extremley well while on chemo the Oncologist believes that his cancer is a very aggressive one. Boof started his third protocol yesterday and is fine today, we will know in a few days if it is working because he responds so well right from the start. I am being positive and take each day as it comes. I wish Ollie and all of the pooches suffering with any of these cancer's all the best in their battle and thank you for your good wishes. 16. Hi Jed Thank you for asking about Boof and Jasper. As Nell has not posted for a while I don't know how Jasper is going, it would be good to hear from Nell as I often wonder about Jasper. Boof hasn't done to well unfortunatley. He came out of remission 3 weeks after his 5 months of chemo, it came back as a secondary in the skin around his penis which was very unusual. The skin became swollen very quickly, it was imperative that he was started on the rescue chemotherapy protocol which reduced the swelling in a matter of days and I was thrilled because I had my boy back after thinking that I was going to lose him in a matter of days. Boof did really well on the new protocol for 10 weeks however on Friday after a needle aspirant was done for swollen lymph nodes in his neck it confirmed that its back again. Boof is not ill at the moment, the only indication are the swollen nodes and he snores very loudly due to the pressure on his airway. Boof has not really suffered while on chemotherapy, he has had excellent quality of life and I think I have been lucky to have had him for this extra time. I am praying that once my Vet speaks to the Oncologist that they will be able to give him something else to keep him going for a little while longer. I can't imagine my life without him. I will do the right thing by Boof and won't let him suffer at all, it will be a very sad day though when I have to say good bye to my best friend....... Boof is an ex Renbury Farm dog rescued 11 years ago. Denise PAWS
  17. Hi Bingo I bought Boof a container of 250 Vetbasix months ago and can't remember what was in the container with the tablets.
  18. Hi Nell, Jasper was lucky to have his tummy bug clear up so quicly. Boof was so ill when he had the tummy bug early on that my Vet told me if I had not taken him to the emergency Vet that he would not have survived, it was very scarey. Out of interest what tablets did your Vet give Jasper for his tummy bug? Most dogs that I get from Pounds have Kennel Cough and because his immune system is supressed there is a good chance that he would catch it (its airborne) and he could end up with pneumonia which could be fatal. There are many other infections that he could catch from Pound dogs as well and I just can't afford to take any risks with him. Its interesting that you say Jasper is slightly incontinent, Boof also drips sometimes and a week or so ago his drips were a pink colour, I took him to my Vet the next morning but there was nothing wrong, his wee was all back to normal. Vet could not explain it at all, did kidney function and of course looked for a urine infection but nothing showed, one of the drugs can cause blood in the urine but at that time he had not had that particular drug...Boof has done poo and wee in the house since starting chemo, I asked my Vet if it was the drugs causing him to do this but she just gave me a grin and said "no" I think we have to assume that it must have something to do with their treatment though. My Vet told me that Boof had to have Megaderm and Vitamins .......I asked the same question as you re the human vitamins, she said absolutley not. Boof is on Vetbasix brand of Vitamin Tablets and has 1 a day, he hates the Megaderm. i just put all of his medications straight down his throat, he doesn't always eat everything in his bowl so I can't trust him not to have left something hidden in his food. I took Boof to the Vet today for his blood count, he has always been a bit chubby but for some reason has gained 1kg in 2 weeks, she checked him thoroughly and his tummy is a bit tender, blood results should tell us if something is not right.. Does Jasper go to a Vet Practice or to a Specialist Centre for his chemo treatments? Hugs to Jasper also. Denise & Boof
  19. Hi Nell, It wouldn't hurt to cut out raw meat to see if this helps Jasper's upset tummy, anything is worth a try when they are not feeling well. Poor Jasper! I cook Boof, minced beef, turkey and chicken with lots of vegetables, he has sardines for breakfast most days and dry food if he feels like it. He has antibiotics 12 hourly, vitamin tablet daily plus Megaderm. Boof wasn't well a couple of weeks back, he was shivering and his temperature was low, I rang my Vet who said to wrap him up in a blanket with a hot water bottle to help bring his temperature back up, it worked and the next morning he was back to his old self. The sad thing for Boof and I is that he used to ride around in my car when I dropped my rescue dogs to the Vet and to their foster carers, that has all had to stop now, even when his chemo is finished my Vet has advised against any contact with dogs from the Pound again. I hope that Jasper's tummy settles quickly. Denise PAWS www.paws.com.au
