  1. Thanks Murve, much appreciated!
  2. Does anyone with a catalogue for today's show know how many Cresteds were entered? Cheers Rebecca
  3. Send you some? Send you some? You really meant to say is "Dear Gecko breeder, I have been a gecko lover and owner for many years now, and since my last gecko passed away of old age, I have really missed having a gecko around. I saw your photos and was really impressed by the awesome quality of your fine geckos. I was talking to another gecko lover, and they too commented on how topnotch your geckos are both in conformation and temperament. Could you please let me know if there will be any geckos available as pets from your next litter? I would be honored if you were to consider me suitable to own one. Please let me know if you have any questions for me, as Iunderstand you only want the best for your geckos. Yours, The Fenster." That cracked me up!! Can't say I have any experience living with geckos on a daily basis and the whole door squashing zombified thing but I think they're really cute and you've just got to admire a creature that can stick to surfaces and lick it's own eyeballs!
  4. Was it of any use to you? Brilliant... thanks Sway. Haven't had a chance to really go through properly yet and create mine yet ... up to my eyeballs in puppies, 2.5 yr old son, working and having the mother of all cold/flu's going on but going to knuckle down this weekend and put it together. Your agreement is very well put together and concise ... and the wording very well done. Hope you don't mind me plagiarising some of it!! Thanks heaps!
  5. Hello wise DOL'ers, I apologise in advance for yet another co-ownership agreement thread but was wondering if anyone would be willing to share their agreements to give me something to work off? I have a fantastic buyer in another state who is happy to purchase a pup on co-ownership but I haven't done a co-ownership arrangement before. I know mostly what I want to put in there but need a bit of a template to work off. I have googled (as per advice given in other threads) but everything I find seems to be way over the top, too American (no offence to any Americans reading this ) or just plain confusing. Would anyone be willing to pm examples of theirs? I am very aware of the pitfalls of co-ownership but have built up a very good relationship over time with this person and believe things should run very smoothly - the agreement will be in place just to have it all in writing and so everyone is completely aware of their rights and responsibilities, is comfortable with everything and there is no confusion.
  6. I have no issue with Group 1 being inside at Bulla ... I too love showing indoors there and find the area and facilities superb. I do think it weird that hounds would be inside too though as indoors is certainly nowhere near as roomy as the KCC Park shed. Bit of a strange decision considering the weather forecast and the lovely outdoor areas at Bulla
  7. Hi Gael, can you tell me whether Group 1 will be inside or outside for this show? Someone told me that Group 1 was not going to be inside anymore at Bulla but thought I'd better check with those in the know before believing everything I hear
  8. A Cavalier would be perfect for your family and home situation. Cav's are absolutely superb with kids and will play and engage with them as much as the kids want. They are gentle and sweet natured and are a nice sized smaller dog - not too big or too small. They also love nothing more than having a comfy lap or lounge to curl up on after playtime's over and will lavish love and attention on everyone in the household. Cav's are also very gentle natured with small animals and as long as you get a young'ish dog they will accept the Pigs as family members (obviously with a little training) and the Pigs will live happy, stress free and long lives with a Cav around the place. Grooming would be a medium task with a Cav and a good brush out, possibly twice a week, would be required. In between toes check will need to be done regularly with the grass seeds in your yard ... but that would go with any breed you get anyway - but the Cav's have hairier feet than short coated breeds. (no reason clipping out the hair between the pads and toes can't be done though to make the job easier!) The other thing with Cav's is keeping the ears as clean as possible to avoid ear infections/issues. Dogs with the long, heavy drop type ears are prone to problems if ears are not maintained. I have recommended Cav's to a number of families over the years, specifically those with children, and they've all been absolutely stoked with their dogs - commenting on how easy they are to housetrain, how great they are with the kids, how loving and gentle they are etc etc. Only one thing to keep in mind ... if you do consider a Cav make sure you research the breeders and ensure they are doing all appropriate health tests on their dogs - most are these days but best to be certain.
  9. Hi Dolers, a quick request ...... is anyone from Victoria travelling to Spring Fair in Sydney next week? If you've got room in your car for a Jack Russell in a crate, would anyone be able to transport the little guy back to Victoria? Pick up can be arranged on route to avoid as much inconvenience as possible. Thank you! ;)
  10. Hi, sorry for all your boy's troubles. Don't rub his throat ... it will make him cough more. The only thing you can really do is keep him as calm as possible - running around will exacerbate the coughing and give him some Benadryl cough medicine to try and help soothe his throat a little and hopefully ease the coughing a bit. Benadryl is quite safe for dogs - don't know off hand the correct dosage but you can probably google it or I'm sure a search in the Health section of the forums will bring something up. If the KC gets very bad the vet will prescribe Antibiotics but as KC is a virus it's generally not that effective. Unfortunately it's just one of those illnesses that takes time to clear on it's own .. like the common cold for us. Oh .. one other thing to give him .... lots of TLC ... but it sounds like you're doing that already!
  11. Check out the DOL Breed page for Pekes - plenty of info there and then check out some of the breeders, their websites and info. http://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/community/pekingese.asp Also check out the breeds sub forum section. Fantastic little dogs, full of character and life but not big on the obedience side of things. When you think Peke, think single minded, determined little critters who march to their own drum! Very Oriental! Enjoy!

  13. I occasionally travel for weekend/double/triple shows etc with a few cresteds and have always managed to find pet friendly motels who will allow the dogs in the room, as long as they stay in their crates. I line this up when I book the accom and sure, it may take a few phone calls to different places to find someone willing to allow it but it can be done. I know for sure that if I left them in the car overnight they would be barking their heads off at any strange noises they heard and would disturb everyone. I ensure the dogs are carried into and out of the room - to and from their crates - and that all dog poo outside is ALWAYS picked up and disposed of properly. The dogs are quiet as mice in the room and there is never any mess or untidyness when we leave. I have stayed in some great places where the people were more than happy to have us back - and I have often stopped in to Motels I haven't been to, on my travels to talk to owners directly to see if they would be agreeable to us staying in future. It's always a great idea for them to meet the dogs, see the set up we have and actually meet us at the same time! I always offer to pay more money than the nightly rate as a kind of bond to reassure the owners - but most of them don't take it. Unfortunately there are people that do the wrong thing and this has caused problems for the many people who travel to shows and rely on motel accom - I have heard some horror stories and people should be ashamed of themselves!
  14. I have just checked this show out in the Gazette and am thinking of entering. I would be more than happy to help if you like.
  15. Avatar and Jordan are both fine - Avatar is a little sunburnt but apart from that all ok. Jordan is fine - wasn't injured by the dog but was beside herself with worry and panic while Avatar was missing. The other dog that was attacked is also ok - a few scratches and a bit freaked out but all in all a happy ending. Very lucky on all counts! Thank you for all the thoughts and concern!
  16. Avatar has been found alive and well this morning and is currently back in the arms of a very relieved and happy Jordan! Thank you to everyone that looked out for this boy and sent well wishes! DOL rocks!
  17. Avatar has been found alive and well this morning and is now currently snuggled back in the arms of Jordan, receiving kisses galore! Thank you to everyone who offered help, looked out for this boy and sent well wishes. Thank DOG he's safe - and we've got a happy ending!
  18. OMG, a pimple squeezing trip around Australia to be organised How does that song go again?? "I've squeezed everywhere man ... I've squeezed everywhere man ....."
  19. Will ya pulease stop this talk about squeezing pimples ... I am one of those disgusting people who LOVES squeezing pimples and black/white heads and I am jealous. Mother Moocher ... anytime you feel like a trip to Melbourne you're more than welcome to come for a squeeze visit with my guys!
  20. Congratulations on your success with Xena! She looks so happy! Glad to hear the skin is starting to improve .. and that you're getting into the swing of squeezing pimples like the rest of us Cresty weirdos! I can sit for ages squeezing my guys but it freaks my mum out something shocking! The white spots/scars will cover up beautifully with some sun exposure and you'll find that she'll actually tan in the sun - obviously just watch she's not getting burnt! She's an absolute cutie!
  21. Hi Megs, She sure looks like a Crestie X to me. A lot of Cresties go through the pimply teenager phase, especially if skin not washed regularly. Get some Malaseb antibacterial shampoo and wash in that. For those pimples I would get a face washer, soak it in hot water and lay it on skin (not too hot obviously but warm enough to help open up the pores a bit), soap her up with Malaseb and then leave on for five minutes or so before rinsing off. Also use an exfoliating bath glove and give her a good scrub in the Malaseb. Make sure you moisturise the skin afterwards with a gentle Vitamin E cream. A regular bath like this (every week minimum) should help, as will good diet. A lot of Cresteds develop sebaceous cyst type lumps which are hard white lumps that not much comes out of. I have found a diet which incorporates fish oil and all the good stuff tends to help with those but might not eradicate them completely. Yes, us Crestie owners are known for squeezing pimples and blackheads (find it quite therapeutic myself :D ) but always make sure if you're going to do it your hands are clean and a wipe over with antibacterial wipes is recommended afterwards. The teeth thing is quite common for Cresteds - a lot of them never get some adult teeth, many retain baby teeth and many also get two sets. If the double canines aren't causing an issue I wouldn't worry about them - it's only for the show ring we get doubles taken out. Make sure your vet is aware that if they pull out baby teeth, adult teeth may never eventuate anyway.

  23. Hello all, After a number of years showing with our trusty umbrella tent we have finally decided to bite the bullet and invest in a gazebo (somehow we've got more dogs to show now than we did a few years ago ) Does anyone have any suggestions of good places in Melbourne, with sales on at the moment, to buy an Oztrail Compact and walls? I never seem to be up with the "sales" info and always find out after they're over .. and usually when I've paid full price for something! Thank you oh wise ones!
