  1. They would have to change the QLD legislation officially to include the Amstaff on BSL. It doesn't matter what a court said, there has to be a legislation breach to impound anyones dog. At the moment, they can place restrictions upon breeds listed under the Customs Act and the Amstaff isn't Customs listed. They would either have to ammend the definition referring to the Customs Act or add the Amstaff to the Customs Act to restrict importation of the breed.

    :laugh::)

  2. To be honest, I am a bit confused with any anti BSL movements or campaigns operating at all, because they haven't even put the slightest dent in relaxing any legislation regarding dangerous dogs or restricted breeds and the legislation is getting tougher by the day. There is plenty of chat, but is there any real action happening, or is it just and whinge and bitch fest

Maybe you need to stick to your state they do need help now with, the wonderful laws just passed.Aren't they shockers or havent you read them yet??

Have you done anything to help fight BSL apart from a few rash statements on the forum???? Or just here to stir the pot.

Nope it don't affect you does it??? BSL affects all breeds.

  3. When "pit bulls'' first came to prominence sometime in the eighties they weren't promoted as loving companions or family pets but rather as biting, fighting unstoppable super dogs & aimed directly at a niche market.

The target? The Thuggy McWannabes & his like minded associates.

& Thuggy & his associates certainly wanted these dogs, as did shyster, anything for quick buck, scumbags who saw massive profits to be had & jumped on the band wagon.

Puppies were going for up to $10,000, yes, $10k per. & demand far outstripped supply.

Long story short, Thuggy & the shysters were breeding like crazy to recoup their capitol outlay & get into the black.

Ethics, genetics, even breeding pure to pure was lost on these entrepeneurs & the ''breed'' suffered irrepairable damage. All that was left was a trail of ruin, a load of rubbish, &, for the most part, in the dubious hands of the irresponsible.

The dogs were starting to make the news for all the wrong reasons. & continued to do so, Thuggy love the publicity, it was good for business.

As with everything, forunes eventually reversed & the supply eventually outweighed demand. The prices dropped.

The going price fell to as low as $200.

Then the saviour of the Thuggies appeared on the horizon - like a knight in shining armour, it was the B.S.L. - the ''breed'' was banned, all kinds of restrictions were put in place to ensure the ''breed'' would die out.

    Thuggy smiled

It was manna from heaven for Thuggy. All the B.S.L did was drive them undergroud & create a blackmarket. Demand increased. Prices starting to skyrocket. - Thuggy was happy. Thuggy was in the money again. Nothing had really changed.

B.S.L is a no brainer, but it is here to stay. At least for the forseeable future. No pollie would want to be known as the one who repealed this obnoxious legislation if a kid was mauled by a ''pit bull'' what ever the #@*& that is. It is just easier & safer for them to leave things as they are.

All the while the REAL APBT was being nutured by committed ethical, registered breeders. They are handsome, reliable, faithful companions. Bred to a standard for conformation & temperament - They are the American Staffordshire Terrier.

It would be pleasing to see all the "pit bull" would be saviors get behind the real deal now that it has been put squarely in the line of fire by uneducated, uninformed & badly advised persons.

Get behind the ANKC registered, recognised pure breed - the American Staffordshire Terrier - now.

Tomorrow may just be too late.

Ok so your the original poster Dwayne?????

  4. I'd rather be In a sinking Pit Bull ship than have given up on my chosen breed because the going got tuff,

the APBT NEVER gives up

Thank DOG most haven't given up the fight as some clearly have

Oh and I would think one bull breed to another Is "Family" But then again some get to pick and choose their family's too!

Give me the sinking ship anyday. The ship has not sunk yet by the way

  5. An American Staffordshire Terrier is an American Pitbull Terrier. Anyone that says otherwise is wrong, it's not debatable.

They did not come from a "similar" gene pool, they came from the same gene pool. AST's were bred from pedigree APBT's and nothing else.

Also the AST has not been bred exclusively along AST lines for 75 years, its been bred that way for about 40 at best. The AKC re-opened its stud books to UKC APBT's as recently as 1973.

Are they the same breed ? The answer to that is "sometimes". That is, an American Staffordshire Terrier is an American Pitbull Terrier, but an American Pitbull Terrier is not necessarily an American Staffordshire Terrier.

:laugh: ;) Great post Lo Pan. tybrax

  6. We do have to be careful and not have any more fluff up's that places other breeds under the BSL spotlight. The situation that happened in QLD with the Amstaff was just stupid, what were they thinking

I'm sure they were thinking about saving their dog and fighting BSL, they've sure saved a lot of dogs which is more than most people on here, and by no means thought about putting the amstaff in the spotlight, that was the GCCC so build a bridge and get over it.

    :eek::o ;) Great comment Geo.

Oh what tangled webs we weave when first we practice to deceive.

The only deceivers are GCCC :D

Maybe you don't remember the biggest blunder that was caught out Involving the 22 point checklist, and now you dare call this litigant, her advisers & supportersl will to blame. Fools, one & all....... What a joke!! GCCC are nothing but a bunch of fools themselves

    High price for freedom

    BY RODERICK SHAW

    13 Apr, 2010 09:09 AM

ROYCE the dog has come home to his Blacktown owner, Jock Coulter, seven weeks after his removal by Blacktown pound.

``I'm ecstatic; I just felt elation when told I could take him home,'' Mr Coulter said.

``He's my best friend; the only one happy to see me every day.''

Royce, a 13-year-old mastiff-cross, was seized by Blacktown pound officers who said he was a pit bull and therefore a dangerous dog.

However, Mr Coulter said Royce was not a pit bull, nor had he ever attacked anyone or another animal.

Blacktown councillor and veterinarian, Russ Dickens, said he had treated the dog for years and had never heard any complaints about him.

Mr Coulter also said he was told he had to build a backyard enclosure for Royce, which he said cost him a great deal of money.

But last week he had his dog professionally assessed for its breed.

``She [the assessor] said Royce was half mastiff and half ridgeback,'' he said.

He said the pound then allowed him to take Royce home and wished them well.

Mr Coulter said he was happy to have his dog home, but unhappy about what had happened to him.

``Look at the costs I've incurred building that cage in my backyard,'' he said.

``I still don't know what Royce is supposed to have done.

``It's ground me down; I can't say what it's done to me.''

Mr Coulter said he was worried the same thing could happen to another dog owner.

Cr Dickens has asked Blacktown Council officers for an explanation of the affair.

The Sun contacted Blacktown Council for comment, but it could not reply in time for publication.

In the meantime, Mr Coulter is dismantling the cage once meant for Royce.

``I'll keep a bit of it for a garden shed,'' he said.

  10. I have been contacted by a law firm to find the owners of dogs who have been destroyed because they were accused of being American Pit bull terriers. They need the following information:

    1. Was the tool called the 22 point checklist used as the method of identification?

    2. Was the tool, (22 point checklist) used by a Queensland Animal Control Officer?

    3.Which Council?

4.The name of the Animal Control Officer.

5.Do you have a copy of the Tool (22 point checklist) supporting documentation from the respective Council? If not, don’t worry as they can be obtained very simply.

6.All copies of correspondence between yourself and the respective council’s preexisting relationship.

7.If your dog was removed out of the state, or destroyed.

8.What dog breed/cross had you asserted it to be?

9.Your contact address/email and phone number.

  11. You should no your the one telling the story? l wont be commenting on your posts anymore, your facts are wrong!!

Yes, the council/ratepayers have to wear the bill - but remember, it was the owner's that took council to court, not the other way around.

Irrelevant, the Judge ordered the Council to pay

why should innocent tax payers pay for a fraudulent law.??...........mmmmmmmmm!!

    tybrax

  12. exactly tybrax, it is more out of spite and revenge for making them look stupid on numerous other occasions.

i dont think it has anything to do with Amstaffs.

Yep thats it, Sheer Malice!!

    tybrax

Oh FFS! It was a Supreme Court case with huge ramifications which ever way it went and most likely tens of thousands of dollars in cost. I don't think malice has anything to do with it.

The council even offered the owners to return Tango to his home on the Gold Coast years ago as a restricted dog but the owners cut their noses off to spite their faces and refused.

OFF'S ,The council stated if they could prove tango was and amstafff then he could be returned to the Gold Coast, they proved it years ago,

council ignored it. So your facts are wrong!! Nose out of joint what a load of rubbish!! You sound like ACO J.T.

The costs are huge and the council have to wear the bill, or should i say the poor tax payer.

  13. Think about it. It takes money to fight BSL, who would an organisation protect first if they have limited funds, those who pay money for membership or those who don't? A lot of pitbull people have nothing nice to say about ANKC breeders, even though some of their biggest BSL fighters are registered breeders who don't even have amstaffs.

Did Chivers have legal representation, WTF was any of the applicants team thinking when they introduced some of their evidence? Why not rehome the dog instead of letting it spend 5 years in a kennel and put all that wasted money into a fund to actually fight BSL. I'd be mighty pissed at them if I were am amstaff owner right now. I feel so bad for all those owners, their dogs are now under a cloud of uncertainty.

Excuse me, but were you around when the DaFre case went to Magistrate's court in Qld?

That is where the late Mrs Brashears first gave evidence in Australia, and where, like Ms Chivers, the dog owner sought to show that the checklist method of identification was rubbish, and the council and its "consultant identifiers" were promulgating rubbish!

Were all the critics of Ms Chivers and her legal team and witnesses, criticise one it implies all, so full of foresight that they THEN said, do not use this attack as it will end up putting the AST in the crosshairs?

Didn't think so--all the angst now is due to the magic of foresight and we all can be superlative at that when we choose!

    But it helps NOBODY!

    Good post. ZBC

  14. American pit bull owners vow to fight on

$500,000 to keep dog off death row

AFTER spending almost $500,000 on their fight, a couple plan to appeal against a Supreme Court decision that ruled their dog was an American pit bull, preventing it from returning to its Parkwood home.

The court yesterday ruled American staffordshire terriers were the same breed as the outlawed pit bull.

The decision has potentially dire consequences for Queensland's 25,000 AmStaff owners, including at least 1000 on the Gold Coast.

Kylie Chivers and John Mokomoko took on the Gold Coast City Council in court over the identification of their dog Tango as a pit bull, rather than an AmStaff.

It meant the dog was deemed dangerous and needed to be put down but they moved the animal to a safe location in a kennel south of Tweed Heads more than five years ago. In NSW, Tango could be registered as an AmStaff.

Yesterday, Justice Glenn Martin dismissed Ms Chivers's application, stating that Tango was an American pit bull -- the same breed as an American staffordshire terrier.

This followed expert evidence, supplied by Ms Chivers, that the council ultimately relied upon.

"The conclusion that I draw from that evidence is that the name American staffordshire terrier is a name which was adopted in the United States of America for purposes of promotion or other similar reasons and that that name was applied to American pit bull terriers," said Justice Martin.

"That practice appears to have been adopted in Australia.

"Therefore, as I am satisfied that the applicant has demonstrated that Tango is an AmStaff, it follows that Tango is also an APBT and is thus subject to the restrictions under the local laws referred above."

Outside court, Mr Mokomoko said the decision would set a precedent and he predicted Queensland councils would now enforce AmStaffs as pit bulls, declaring them dangerous.

"They will have to register as a restricted dog (if born before 2005) and have them desexed," he said.

"If born after 2005, it has to be destroyed. We are going to appeal with the help of the Australian national kennel club and the American pit bull club."

The Gold Coast City Council yesterday called on the State Government to clarify whether the ruling effectively outlawed AmStaffs.

Local Government Minister Desley Boyle said the council's local laws were responsible for prohibiting dogs, but the Government would examine the ruling to see if it had any implications for state animal management legislation.

In a surprise twist, Mr Mokomoko yesterday said he was contacted by the council which was considering making changes to local laws which could allow the dogs to live on the Gold Coast under strict guidelines.

Justice Martin did not order Ms Chivers to pay costs.
