I have been going to my vets for over 30 years, he is the best and he is also into Natural Remedies as well, a good vet that you can build a relationship worth is a valuable resource, not everything can be cured by natural alternatives as what works for one may not work for another.

I have far too many stupid owner stories to tell Unfortunately people like this will never learn through education, you may as well tell it to a brick wall. My suggestion is to ring the Ranger and let them learn financially maybe that will sink in to their small brains

All our dogs and pups have access to water 24/7 and we've never encountered a toileting issue yet in all these years. when pups are young they are taken out before bed then around 4 - 5am then as they get older wait to go to the toilet when we wake or if they really need to go they come and wake us up. Ours have never been crated at night unless we are away and when they are crated for whatever reason they have access to water also.

I ride with both of mine attached to Walkydogs, one on each side and both have done their ET. It's important to remember to build his endurance up slowly starting off very slowly.

I have a bike rack so take mine to the bike tracks and ride with them there or quiet reserves :rolleyes:

There are alot of red nose pitties in this area and it really does nothing to help BSL.

The saddest part about that is the 'red nose pit' being more aggressive is a complete myth. It's just a colour. A long time ago, before pitbull terriers were bred by every muppet with a desire to look 'hard', the red coloured dog was bred because it looked striking and came from a lineage where the dogs that were bred had a reputation as good fighters. These days it's just a colour.

When I talk to people about pitbulls I try and get them to focus on the 'terrier' and not on the 'bull'. Terriers - say the word, and people think of tenacious litte ratters; obstinate, determined little dogs who just won't quit. Play fetch with a jack russell terrier and a tennis ball, and at some point you might expect to be able to pick the entire dog up by the tennis ball that it's holding in its mouth and won't release.

However people expect terriers to be like that, and most terrier owners know what they're getting into and understand that they'll have to curb, train and moderate that tenacity.

However, stick those characteristics into an average 23kg dog body, and you get myths, legends, accusations of bite pressure per square inch akin to a White Pointer, anatomically unfounded claims of 'lockjaw' (do JRTs have lockjaw when they won't let go of the tennis ball?) and basically a whole plethora of total bollocks that makes pitbull terriers into larger than life devil dogs, who attract the wrong kind of people who then work to perpetuate the myths.

It's all about perspective. If people focused on the 'terrier' aspect of pits and staffs, we might not be in this state. (Similarly, if people understood that 'teacup' is a euphemism for 'runt of the litter', at least some of the BYBs would go out of business.)

Sorry wasn't saying that red nose pitties are more aggressive(I love pitties), just that there are a heck of a lot around here belonging to idiot owners being bred in backyards from people who shouldn't own a dog let alone breed them and for some reason like to show how tough they are and parade them around the streets off lead, too many accidents waiting to happen and it makes all dog owners come up in a bad light because of the rednecks

This road is 5 mins away from my house, it is a main road and extremely busy and a daily occurrence is people walking their dogs off lead down this road, it's about time our council started patrolling more as when I drive anywhere in Hoppers I see at least 2 - 3 people walking their dogs off lead most days

There is a open reserve running off this road and many dogs have been seriously injured and quite a few doggy deaths because we have alot of idiots owners like this You even see them walk over to the shop and servo with their dogs off lead, it seriously shits me and this is why I never risk walking my dogs around this area. My girlfriend had her two shepherds attacked on the reserve 3 weeks ago and the guys grabbed their dogs and bolted before she could take a photo on her mobile phone

And whilst I love pitties there are many breeding these dogs in their backyards in our suburb and surrounding ones and of course these animals can't be registered with the council and unfortunately they are selling them to people who honestly have no dog savvy whatsover There are alot of red nose pitties in this area and it really does nothing to help BSL.

I run both my dogs on Walkydogs, one on each side of the bike, great investment as it got us started for our ET training a couple of years ago.

I find them great as we ride mainly areas where there are lots of rabbits and my GSD boy if I happen to miss spotting a rabbit and get his focus can be a lunger when he sees something exciting running away, Walkydog has saved me a few times.

I am not sure of the legalities as I drive mine out to places to take them riding, around our area there are too many loose dogs for my liking and I don't take chances with mine being attached to the bike when a dog comes charging.

I use a harness or a leather collar, I started with them in harness first and now they most times use a flat collar but they have been riding for over 2 years, the harness I use is a sports one and very light weight and doesn't rub

Wolfgirl they claim they sent out an email saying there was a mixup in the supply, I never received it and if you didnt Im guessing they didnt send it, tell them you want a refund they tried to get me to use my money as credit on something else

I have one of the old Palisade packs that I don't use if anyone would like a cheap second hand one. It's never been used, but I use the harness on Kivi all the time, so that bit has seen a bit of wear. Kivi hates wearing the pack and I decided it wasn't worth counter conditioning him to it because we never go on long enough outings to really use it anyway.

What size is it and how much are you after for it?

Yep I never got the email and I have lots of trouble getting them to even email me back when I have emailed them, my last email was Thursday and still no response. They have a blog section so I might look at going on there and letting them know how poor their service is especially in responding to customers queries and I will definitely want a refund and in the meantime all I have to say is

I ended up buying one from petitude, not happy I paid for it on the 17th and im yet to receive anything, I emailed them this morning so hopefully Ill get some answers off them

Same and after no response for nearly 2 weeks I emailed them and they said it was being sent out late June to middle of July and I ended up emailing them again yesterday as it is now nearly the end of July, not happy with their service, very poor indeed in fact it took two weeks to even email me back, wouldn't purchase from this supplier again

I'd be booting them both off the couch because they don't deserve to be there and implement NILIF 100% consistently whilst you wait for your appointment with a Behaviourist to show you how to manage your pack that doesn't see you as the Leader anymore.

I think keeping them of the lounges and other furniture altogether could be a good idea, although I suspect if we use one dog bed for them inside if Indy is on first she won't let cayenne on... but 2 will sort it out... Just to address a couple of points raised in the replies :

I was going to say the same this as sas. Don't pick up Indy, boot her naughty butt off the couch!

I fully understand the reason behind this and I agree 100%. How am I to do this though if Indy is growling and cayenne is on the floor wanting to get it on... If simply push/move indy off the lounge onto the floor cayenne would get to her - that would solve the problem but not in an appropriate manor... (this is why I am thinking not letting them on the lounges is a good idea.)

ETA if I sort cayenne out by putting her out and then move indy off the lounge then indies punishment wouldn't be to long from the crime...

As those above have said - Indy needs off the couch....

Why don't you PM Cosmolo on here - she could also likely provide some details for recommended behaviourists near you.

Is there any reason why Cayenne isn't desexed? Although not the answer to this issue, it may help a bit also.

Cayenne isn't desexed because she was shown as a pup and still could be, but now I really don't see myself having time in the near future so the time has probably come to do it. Although I need to look into it further I wouldn't want to do it if it could bring about any other behavoural changes. Up until this point she has been perfectly behaved.

If you don't allow either dog on the couch that would be a very good start as it is this behaviour that sets off the incident, you need to show them you are the leader atm one is taking that position for you

wolfgirl, while that might be so, this was at a dog training class. every dog training class i have been at, there have been child handlers with their dogs. It is not beyond the realm of possibility for a child to have been involved in this incident, especially since this dog has a reputation issues previously.

While it may not be Human Aggressive in the truest sense, the risk to a child or a smaller dog is a great risk in this training situation.

I understand that but reading this line

I managed to get between Max and the attacking dog but unfortunately the damage was all ready done.

makes me feel that the dog wasn't focusing on the human it was to the other dog so don't know that you could call it Human Aggressive or that you could say it would attack a child

ETA That I think the attacking dog should not allowed to be off leash or without a muzzle while at the training club, lets hope the committee on that club do the right thing by Cuchulain and Max
