  1. Thanks everyone, he is gorgeous.
  2. My recent rescue foster wouldn't leave his alone and managed to get the stitches out with the collar on. Thankfully the wound had healed, I agree that it was more so the clipper rash that was bothering him more. The collar was ridiculous and he bumped into everything, including us.
  3. Thanks, I'll add some more pics, he doesn't open his mouth as wide as a GSD and is a lot squarer as well if that makes sense.
  4. Hi, this guy was rescued from a pound in NSW, he was found wandering and malnourished. They had him listed as a GSD but I think he is a Belgian Malinois. What do others think? I have adopted him, he definitely behaves differently to a GSD and doesn't look like one.
  5. Hi, we have flagged The Bullmastiff as a possible next breed, what do I need to know? Previously we have had GSD's and I have always attended obedience with them. We have a Female Cavalier and two cats, also 4 children at home 16,13,11 & 8 who are all dog savvy and very caring towards animals. Our Cav is an indoor dog, only going out for toilet & play but a large dog would be mostly outside during work/school hours with heaps of family time indoors of course when we are home. Any information you can share would be fantastic as we want to know as much as possible before taking the next step. Thank you in advance.
  6. Thankyou. Have been in touch with Central Animal Records, and National Pet Register. Hopefully something will come up soon.
  7. Geriatric German Shepherd got out from his backyard in Sunbury, he is very approachable by humans but not a fan of other dogs. If you find him please call Kylie on 0468 922 826 OR 0414432655. He is very much loved and sorely missed.
  8. Hi, I worked for Cass from Ringbarka some years back and her dogs are great. They are beautiful to look at and have a lot of instinct and brains. She loves her dogs and has exported to Europe quite a bit.
  9. Unless you can afford a Kirby, get a Dyson. I do some cleaning for the elderly and people with disabilities and seriously they are the only two vacuums I would use if given a choice.
  10. I have always had GSD's, I have also at one time had a JRT, she thought she was the boss, but was a great companion to our elderly Male GSD, she was his ears before he passed. Christmas 2008 my daughter got a Cavalier King Charles, (we knew and approved the gift before hand). Our Male GSD was nearly 8 at the time, and the pup was 9 weeks. They love each other so much, she keeps him active and they run and play all the time. He is a dominant dog and he is well and truly the boss, we let him discipline her and teach her his own way. He has never hurt her, although he has given her a fright at times when she was not listening to his signs of disapproval. I can only tell you about my experience, but it has been positive and my GSD's have loved the little dogs in their life.
  11. Our Cav only barks when excited, she never barks any other time . This could be because the GSD barks enough for both of them
  12. Kaiser has been a senior for the last couple of years.. he was nine in Feb. He has Cartrophen injections now to keep him moving with less pain. Just don't tell him I said he was old, he still thinks he's a puppy.
  13. I was proud of Kaiser tonight, my 14yo Daughter went to the door to recieve the pizza for the first time and he gave a couple of barks from behind the fence. He never does this when I answer the door, so it must of been in protection of my daughter.
  14. http://frankston-leader.whereilive.com.au/...oses-his-fight/ A man in Frankston refuses to desex his xbred so it can be registered, local law says that all dogs must be desexed in order to be registered, unless a pedigree. Not only do his comments baffle me, some of the reader comments are just wierd.... "The dog is good breeding stock"?? :p ;) :mad :mad :D ETA: I can't make the link work, try copy and paste into browser, sorry
  15. Selective hearing can happen in any breed. While a cav maybe easier to distract from a scant than a beagle, there are things cavs like doing that can make them selectively deaf too. The only solution is training. A cavalier will probably be easier to train than a terrier, but it will still require regular training if you want to avoid selective hearing. Yes, such as birds in the park, Summer just loves birds :D :D
  16. We have had a Cavalier for 18mths, and although we haven't had a Westie the ones I know are totally different to Summer. She is very gentle, hardly ever barks, happy to lay around all day while we are at work/school and then have a huge burst of zoomies with our Shepherd when outside, or a run in the park with the kids. I have never been a small dog person, but she is the sweetest little dog I have ever met.
  17. Summer our 18mth Cav is a bit fussy, she will only eat dry food if she is very hungry, (she will take them one at a time onto the carpet and eat them) she eats mostly a chicken/veg loaf, necks and a small amount of can. I am told all the time by Cav pet owners she is too thin, but breeders/show people say she is fine. So I am not sure if she should put on more weight or not. My GSD has a fast day every so often, or has bones or scraps instead of dry food. ETA: Kaiser (GSD) only became interested in food when Desexed at 6yrs, before that the ball always came first, he only ate when there was nothing else to do, he was slender but still very healthy and fit.
  18. When Kaiser was a younger dog and we did alot of walking at night and early in the morning. If someone was approaching us I would say watch and loosen the lead slightly, he would go from heal to infront of me and put his ears forward and watch the person. It must have been intimidating as most people took a wide berth after this. Once someone was following me, which I was unaware of as I was listening to my ipod. Kaiser stopped at a tree and turned and looked at the person and didn't move until he crossed the road, I like to think he saved me that day.
  19. Hi, My cousin lives in QLD and recently moved she needs to find a good groomer for her Maltese/Bichon. She hasn't found a good one where she lives. The last one hacked at the face and clipped her body too close and missed some nails. Her dog is a lovely little bitch who behaves really well and wouldn't be a problem. If anyone knows of a good groomer i wold love to be able to pass on their details. Thanks
  20. This is just way too sad, such a stunning boy and so young. I am so very sorry for your loss to you and your family. Chopper was one of my favs on DOL and seems it was the same for many. RIP beautiful boy
  21. I had a sheppie girl who was hit by a car, her tail was broken at the base, she had to have the lot taken off, like a rottie. She healed quickly and was still her happy go lucky self after.
  22. Yes, and maybe quite expensive, I suppose it will be up to the people who bring them into the country to protect them, by way of screening buyers and desexing any pets that are sold.
  23. Isn't it a shame that bogans are the ones determining what dogs should and shouldn't be here and also which dogs will be next on the BSL chopping block ie: Rotties. I think if they were the only dogs left they could turn the Labrador into a monster
  24. My dog was neutered just a week and a half ago and the scrotum now looks flat and empty. He had internal sutures between the shaft and scrotum that didn't need to be removed. I would be worried that a tubal ligation or a vasectomey would fail, as happens with humans. (I have a 3yo to prove the latter) Has anyone heard of the injection for male dogs that stops production of sperm and testosterone, but is totally reversible. Great for aggressive males to settle them while being shown, but can still breed when retired.
