  1. Bellatrix. Have faith that she's enjoying Bella's company over the bridge and they're watching over us together
  2. NTC, Bella was trained using the same method as LMC's Charlie I wouldn't make it a game. Carry her outside, put her down and then stand straight back up - completely ignore her, don't even look her in the eye (but keep an eye on her). As soon as she goes, praise like crazy (don't worry about the neighbours - make as much noise as you please ) and treat if you like, then carry her back in and put her back to bed Worked for us and worth a try TB, this is an 8-9 week old pup
  3. Hi Dannib and pikespooches I'm moving to Narrandera on the 23rd November and would be very interested in meeting you both. I'm very keen to take Bella and my new girl, Sophie to agility and obedience classes. Feel free to PM me if you're keen or just want to chat
  4. Oh Kleinjie, I'm sorry to hear this. I would get to the vet ASAP or at least give them a call. PPS is right, any reaction should be a cause for concern.
  5. Bella always travels in a car harness and always in the back seat. I had her in the front seat once and she was so distracting, trying to lick me and get on my lap (even though she couldn't reach). If I could get a crate to fit in my sedan, I'd use that though.
  6. Thanks for that Pax. Just out of curiosity, an hour away being where? Coffs?
  7. Searching for dog training, good vet and people who live in the Grafton, NSW district.
  8. Here's one thread for you to look at: http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...c=78370&hl= ETA better link
  9. Showdog, somebody else mentioned it. I was merely clarifying what was meant by the previous post. It does not mean that this is my belief. I have a small dog (well, kinda) and I allow her to sleep on my lap. I have had a few issues with her, but have found other ways to deal with them.
  10. I believe (in order of your post) about 7 days about 10-14 days about 6 weeks? Someone with a bit more knowledge will probably come here and shoot everything I just said out of the water... Have you asked your breeder? She should know.
  11. Okay, first of all, how much access does he have to the house? You mentioned the hallway and the loungeroom (I think). This is far too much space for a puppy that isn't housetrained!!! Bella is 10 months old and she only just has access to the kitchen and loungeroom unsupervised. She started in the kitchen (all hard floors - no carpet) from the day we got her. The crate is to be used when you can't watch him LIKE A HAWK and when it's sleep time or timeout (from kids, other dogs etc.) The reason that he should not be allowed to fall asleep on your lap is because to a small breed this shows dominance. He doesn't see you as a leader if he can sleep in bed with you and on your lap. Best of luck and any questions, just ask.
  12. I like Chateau de Collie!!! That design looks fantastic! I might pinch it too and add a little tunnel thing to one side heading toward the house that has a hinged side so that I can clean that bit too...overboard?
  13. Something I did with Bella was take up her food and water about half an hour before bedtime. Mind you that wasn't until she was about 4 months old, maybe 5. It always goes down as soon as she wakes up and goes to the toilet.

    Puppy Sitting

How long ago? I've been there for nearly 3 years.

    Puppy Sitting

That puppy is GORGEOUS!!! Although I really can't help. I'm about 5 hours away! Pity. I could use a playmate for Bella and someone to talk to about doggy things.
  16. Rhi, maybe get a water pistol and give her a quick squirt when she latches on? Praise heaps when she lets go...
  17. Right! Thanks Kristie, something I can use. I'll buy a water pistol today and see if that works...
  18. Boxagirl...this is my problem too. The yard here is not secure (not my house) so I can't allow her to have free access to inside and out. She stays on the verandah where she has toys and food and newspaper for her business. She is scratching to be with us. But the owners of the house don't want her inside. See my dilemma?
  19. Thanks Pandii, but it's not my house... I've been trying a single bark to let me know...will this work?
  20. This sounds pretty good so far. Keep up the good work. Patience is the key and it does take time. Best of luck I think you should end play when she starts this. Simply ignore her and walk inside, leaving her outside. Only for a few minutes. Persist and she'll get the point. My advice would be to start in the house with no distractions. She's only young, so doesn't need a lot of exercise if you play games with her and train daily. Don't expect too much. She's a puppy (and a beagle puppy at that) so her attention span won't be fantastic. Do the things you've been doing in the house for a while. Once you're happy that she's doing well there, move outside (in the yard) and slowly into the wide world. Trade her for food or her favourite toy, and slowly introduce "leave it" or a similar command and lots of praise when she takes the food and releases the other object. I'd also put things that you don't want her to have out of her reach!!! Most important. No experience here, but perhaps make sure that the cat has a safe place where she can get away from the pup. Up high maybe? Hope I helped at least a little...
  21. Thanks Rhi & Jak, that's what we do at the moment, but the scratching is much worse than just wanting in or out (to toilet) she scratches constantly. It sometimes takes half an hour or more for her to stop even for a second. See my problem?
  22. How do I stop Bella from scratching at doors? She seems to do it when she wants to go in or out. I've never let her do either if she scratches. I either ignore it and praise her when she stops or I ask her to sit, then open the door and let her in/out. Keeping her in the room with me is not an option. It occurs at a family members house, but not at home. Please help, I cut her nails weekly, but she has begun causing marks in the glass doors...
  23. at least it was dancing and not being eaten
