  1. Yeah, that's my girl who is on a diet now. She is overweight and needs to lose at least 2 more kgs
  2. Here's a photo of him, I trying to upload some more onto my photobucket
  3. Hi all, I have a feel on his body. He does not have a nice covering over his ribs. All I could fee is his ribs sticking out OH weigh both dogs today, and my girl lost 1.2kg and my boy gain 0.8kg So now she is 20kg and he is 15.8kg. She is not too far from her ideal weight and he is slowly gaining it. I am adjusting their portions according to their daily activities. I did a pact with OH that if there is no result from starting on the BARF diet, he is allowed to feed them whatever he wants and now my perserverance pays off!
  4. I used to feed my girl My Dog but she put on so much weight that we stopped and now she is just on the BARF diet. I notice the poos that the tinned food produce is really huge and putrid
  5. He gets his usual barf diet and brisket bone every day. I will up his portions to even 4% as I only use 2% instead of 3%. He is an extremely active dog, always running around the yard. I will go to the butcher the next time when I am there and get him some lamb flaps Thank you all for the advice I will reweigh him a month later and let you know how I go
  6. It has been more than a month since I started both my dogs on the barf diet, one needed to lose the weight and the other needs to gain. Today when I weigh them after weighing them last a month ago. My girl who needs to lose weight has lost a kg but my boy has also lost a 600gms! ;) I have been feeding him 500gms of the barf diet based on his ideal weight which is 20kgs and he is not gaining weight at all. Instead he has dropped the weight. He was desexed a month ago and should gain some weight which is not happening at all I am at loss now, is there anyway I can help to boost the weight gain? I want to feed him raw and didn't want to add in any stuff such as biccies to his diet...
  7. Medibank offers pet insurance and if you are a medibank member, you get 10% discount. I also notice that the comprehensive (accident + illness) plan covers up till $12,000 and it is 100% as compared to other insurance. I got a quote of $33.48 per month if I take up the $100 excess or you can opt to have the $200 or $500 excess. I am seriously considering taking it up for both my dogs... Sorry forgot to add in there is a further 5% discount for additional pets edited to add in the last sentence
  8. Oh this is bad, she looks like the last one with her long hair in the chart but DH thinks it's her thick hair that makes her looks huge I gave her her dinner today and I notice that she is not as hungry as she looked last night. Maybe the carrot is filling her up now. My workmate who also have an overweight border collie, said that once a border collie puts on weight, it is very hard to lose the weight. Now I am worried. I am thinking of increasing the time I am going to exercise her to aid in her weight loss
  9. Oh I think it's really cute when he did that at first Then after a while it's just bad. He tried that on me again today when I trained him on the lead but I am really firm with him and he have no choice but to do what I want him to do. He is learning that by playing dead he is not getting away with anything
  10. Sorry, everyone, I am being a pain on this topic again and bugging you guys here. I am still learning after several years of DH feeding tinned food to my girl. On friday, I have a feel on my girl's body and I could feel her ribs but she got a gut which I can feel and think that she has to lose the weight there. I have cut down the portion for my girl to 360g since then and instead of giving the whole 360g of the roll to her and I actually added more carrots about 40g to it. Which means she is only getting 320g of the roll itself. Am I doing the wrong thing? I read somewhere in the net (where you prepare your own barf) that to help fill the dog up, give her more veggies. Tonight when I fed her, she look as if I didn't give her enough as she was still licking around her bowl which is empty. It's so sparkling clean that I jokingly told DH that I could just put it back in the cupboard I really feel terrible as if I am starving her and I definitely do not want to do that. I just want her to lose the extra weight. DH thinks she is okie and just muscular but I feel he just have rose coloured glasses on  Thanks again
  11. Thank you all for the suggestions! Today is the first day I started training both my dogs on walking on the leads in the backyard. Valentino has never have any training before and the reason I was told why he freezes when he sees the car is that when he was with the breeder, he will only go into the car when he is off to the vet or somewhere not so pleasant. I was firm with him at the training and he is responding really fast and well to me. Now I am looking forward to training him into going in the car
  12. Hi, as everyone here knows I just adopted a male border collie. He is such a sweet heart and a mummy's boy. However, when it comes to taking him out, he just froze on the spot and refuse to move. Twice this week when I took my babies out for a car ride with me, my girl got into the car on her own, but he just froze on the fence and tried to play dead Both times I have to end up carrying him into the car which he enjoys once in it. Is there anyway to get him to walk with me to the car willingly? I do not want to be always carrying him into it
  13. Thanks all for your suggestions I totally agree with you that I should be the one to be trained. Hmmmm... do you think the boarding trainer will take me in for a week?? :D
  14. Hi Huski, I am located in Mundoolun, suburb next to Jimboomba. Thanks
  15. Thanks for the reply. The trainer whom I took her to had me dropped her off for a week and she was taught the basic commands, such as sit, drop, stay and heel. When I went to pick her up, I addressed the issue that she is a puller and a jumper. He showed me to go in the opposite direction from where she was pulling to. It was going really well at that time when he was there and she was doing the heel really well. After we got home, both my DH and I took her for walks and she was staying close to DH who was holding the lead. But the problem appear when I took her alone for walks and she started to pull me. I tried stopping and be a tree but she just bulldoze ahead. When I tried training her to walk in the yard with DH watching, she was doing fine. But the moment he turn his back, she starts pulling again. I spoke to friends who thinks it's because she don't see me as an alpha dog that's why she is doing that I first use the choker chain when we first started(I am not good at this and end up didn't correcting her pulling) and she rather pull and choke then to stop I just hate to see her choke everytime I take her out for walks. She does the same on a normal flat collar as well :D I was researching about the different types of aids and spoke to my vet who then told me to give the Sporn a try. I did consider the clicker training as a alternative after reading the book by Karen Pryor, but because she is overweight, the clicker training does involve giving treats which will add up to her calorie intake.....
  16. My girl, Tasha, is a very bad lead puller, it has always been a stressful task just trying to walk her I have tried many ways, choker chain, dog trainer, anything you name it and it never stop her pulling. She is okie with my DH, it's just me when I walked her, she does the pulling. It was recommended by my vet to get her the Sporn Training Halter which will stop her pulling. Has anyone tried this before and how was it effective in counteracting this pulling behaviour? Thanks
  17. Hi all, just an update on the BARF roll that I gave my dogs. I tried to cut down the portions and after a few days, I observe their activities and noticed that they have been doing a lot of running and moving around during the day. So I end up giving them the 500gms, I know it's really bad but I have to admit I am really lazy in trying to separate the portion and weighing them on the scales Just today I noticed that my boy has put on weight and his coat is now very shiny and all his dandruffs are gone! My girl on the other hand doesn't seem to put on any weight which is a good thing and I know that she needs to lose the couple of kgs (I can only feel her ribs by pressing hard, however she is a hard and solid girl with big bone structure) but she is looking really good after the change in her diet and I thought the amount of activities she has been doing, the extra portion which I gave her might been burnt off. I will continue to observe her and will lower her portion once I notice there is a weight gain. I am so glad I change to BARF, it sure works really well for my dogs
  18. Thanks for all the advice When I fed my babies on an estimated portion (my weighing scale needs batteries) tonight, they just look at me with that sad look, "is that all, mum?" But I know that by overfeeding them is not loving them. By giving the amount of food they really need is telling them that I love them. My hubby saw how much I was feeding them and he commented "is that all? That is not enough, you will end up starving them" which I doubt so, especially after looking at my girl who is overweight as advised by the vet I will continue to monitor their weight and if I found that they are putting on weight or losing too much, I will adjust their portions accordingly. Thanks!
  19. Thanks for the feedback! Oh dear I think I might have overfed him because he always get a big piece of brisket bone in the morning and his 500gm BARF roll for tea I gave a tiny piece of brisket bone and the same amount of BARF to my girl too who has to be 18kg and she is 20kgs now
  20. I just started both my dogs on the Canine Country BARF diet last week and am still very confused about the feeding portions. I thought to feed them 2% of their bodyweight per meal. For example, my boy is 16kgs (really underweight for an adult border collie) and his ideal weight is 20kgs. Base on this ideal weight, does that mean he gets 0.4 of this 1 kg roll, ie 250g? I am really confused because if I were to feed him that amount, it is really small portion. Could someone point me in the right direction as I have been giving him half of the 1 kg roll and didn't want to overfeed him?
  21. I just realize that I have 7 more of the drontal allwormer tablets at home! Looks like I won't be able to get interceptor spectrums which means I will have to get just the purely heartwormers. I have a look at the different brands of heartwormers in the market and I am not sure which ones to get. There are Nuheart, Dimmitrol and Milbermax. Which are the better ones? I am so confused now, I don't want to get one which does not work well
  22. Now I know that this is not good for dogs and I will not take Tash to the vet for her heartworm control anymore. Sorry this is a bit off topic. I have a few mates of mine telling me that annual vaccinations is not a must for dogs. They said that it doesn't really do much but just fatten the wallet of the vets. How true is this? I have always thought that all these jabs will help to prevent any of the illnesses that may hit the dog
  23. Thanks, I will start her on the interceptor as she has no fleas
