We've got the ezydog drive harness

I love it, so easy to put on and off once fitted. Doesn't rub or chafe. A dog that tries hard enough could houdini out of it backwards, but for going forward motions it is very solid. Also has a handle for helping your dog in the car (you can fit the seatbelt through it, unless your dog eats seatbelts like mine did :/)

It is crash tested to australian standards, but idk to what km/speed that is at.

Also works pretty well as a general harness outside of car

Big Ezydog fan here too.  Their stuff is simple and just works.  Thanks for the thread Arlizng.  Now I've moved down the coast and we are doing a lot more car travel at 100 kms/hr I need to upgrade the westies car harnesses.  And the Ezydog looks pretty good.  Just need to check the seat belt attachment works with the back seat buddy.

  2. Hi All,

I'm having a devil of a time trying to find the terrific tripe treats (freeze-dried I think) I bought a while ago from a groomers - and I don't have the bag anymore and can't remember the brand :(

I 'm after really good quality, Australian made, freeze-dried or dehydrated treats for the westies - prefer tripe but would be happy to try other recommended brands and types, as long as they are Australian made.

Any suggestions please?  (The westies and their grandmother are desperate!)

    TIA :)

  3. I'm not a breeder but agree that given the long-term commitment that a new puppy entails, its absolutely worth the airfare (s) to eyeball the interstate breeder and their dogs.  Well worth the effort to reassure yourself before you handover any more money.  And if the breeder suddenly gets all cagey and won't commit to a personal visit, run a mile and consider 'lesson learned'.

While you are probably fairly safe on DOL due to the increased vetting of advertisers its not infallible - but certainly much better than Gumtree.  You'll be very pleased you made the trip - and you could bring your new puppy home at the same time accompanied 'baggage'  by air.  Good luck and don't forget to post pics!

  4. Yes I'm about to move down the south coast.  And the thought of changing vets is enough to send me into a spin (I love my vets!).  And because I'll be bouncing up and down to Adelaide I think I'll keep my current vets (for continuities sake - big believer in continuity) and introduce myself to a local south coast vet for emergencies.  A sort of 'shared care'. Then when I get a new dog I'll start them off at the local vet (assuming all goes well there).

  5. Mac was a 6 year old puppy farm rescue  who was desexed just before I got him at age six. And he marked everywhere to begin with.  So I puppy trained him - really strictly - and IIRC he improved out of all sight within a couple of weeks.  The doggy door helped too.

Interestingly Andy, also a puppy farm rescue and entire when I got him (but desexed within a few days) never marked inside, despite having never been in a house.  But hes genuinely a very clever boy!

So my experience is its highly variable, but 'curable' if you desex quickly and train early and really intensively.

  6. Thanks for the review Kajtek.  On your say so I'm going to trial a pack.

I'm almost certainly moving down the coast in the next couple of months and the only problem with this plan is my continuing supply of my current fantastic raw mix.  My mother can probably bring a supply down when she comes but its not going to be easy.  So I need a back up - and you might have just solved my problem. :)

  7. Haven't heard that in years!  I'm a twice a day feeder here - small in the morning and main at night.  Same as others, I just think its a long time for little ones to go without something in their tummies - so easy to give them something small before I charge out the door to work and to feed them again when I come home and before I settle in for the evening.  Good to know that it helps blood sugar levels - makes sense.

I believe in feeding in what works best for your dog's and your particular circumstances and a bug bear of mine is what i call the "raw feeding nazi".
I feed mine on good quality dry with some additives and they are doing well. Farts don't smell, poo is small and dense, coats, skin and ears are in good condition and Jonah has less issues than most others of his breed. I have tried 6 or 7 different foods to get where we are now and I don't see a reason to change the system.

Agreed - and a further bugbear is the dry food feeding nazi - so these nazis are found on all parts of the feeding spectrum. :)  And I'll continue to feed raw. :)

  9. Good post TSD and happy to agree to disagree :)  Enjoy our discussions.

Just to add this... my little regular visitor is back - and she is fed dry goodness knows what.  And the poo!!  It absolutely stinks, is poorly formed and the volume is more than my two put together.  I've never seen so much poo come out of a little dog!! There is clearly very little nutrition in it - if there was her body wouldn't be excreting it by the truckload!!. And a new thing - she's hungry all the time!!!

My Sarah, is !6 in early July and bouncing around like a puppy - and raw fed.  The vet wanted to re-run her last blood panel to check it it was so good for her age.  So I'll stick to what I'm doing as it works for me :)

  10. Yep I'm a human grade raw feeder too and in the 'dry food is junk food' camp.  Commercial dry dog food is Maccas for dogs with about the same level of nutrition IMO. I've never understood why according to the pet food companies dogs are the only species on earth requiring their 'complete food'.  No-one has ever given me a good answer to that genuine question.

I'm sorry to hear about your Ernie. :rainbowbridge:

I lost my polly nearly a month ago, and I agree it hurts.

Harley I'm so sorry to hear Polly has gone and I'm sorry if I missed this - I haven't been around much lately.  I was so honoured to meet such a beautiful old girl who's now with my Mac.  Take care and I hope we can catch up again soon.
