  1. Hi Haven, I've pmed you with the info. :p
  2. You already have heaps of reccomendations, but I'll add mine anyway Dr Nicole Hoskins at Prahran Vet Hospital. She was the only vet I could find who would do a vaccine antibody titer test for me. If you don't want to be hard sold on the "over-vaccinate, give your dog Science Diet because they pay for my holidays, treat skin problems/ auto-immune diseases caused by over-vaccination and Science Diet with this super expensive product and drug I sell" line that my last vet peddled, I highly recommend her. (Sorry for the rant - Can you tell I've got a bit tired of vets with that attitude? ).
  3. Thanks Showdog. It's impossible to stop him wagging it- he wags from morning to night But do you mean that just bumping it hard can cause a break? So far we've been more worried about the damage he does to us ;) He is my first undocked weim - and I have to say, we are loving that tail. What can you do to stop it happening? (apologies to Swank for barging in here, but now I'm alarmed)
  4. Hi Swank, Sorry to hear about your pup's tail! ;) I have weims, one older and docked, and one younger and undocked. If you don't mind me asking, how did he break his tail four times? (I'd like to watch out for situations that might cause such damage). My undocked boy slams his tail against everything, really hard. It's not a delicate thing at all, and I can't imagine him breaking it other than through a really serious accident. I'm just wondering if there was something wrong with your pup's tail in the first place? I think I would contact the breeder and ask for their input and also for their recco about a vet.
  5. Happy to share the info Dr Nicole Hoskin, Prahran Vet Hospital, 682 Malvern Rd, Prahran, tel 9510 1335 Cost was$140.25 for each dog. There are two types of test - one which is just a yes/no to immunity, which can be done by sending the blood interstate, and one which gives a breakdown of immunity levels for each disease, which has to be sent to the UK. I got the breakdown for the first time, but the vet said the yes/no will be good enough in future - it costs around half, I think. She was terrific, she had to ring around everywhere, and had to ring me back about four times before she could sort out the process. I couldn't recommend her highly enough. Hope this helps anyone in Melbourne looking to do this - it nearly drove me crazy trying to find out. Even the holistic vets I rang either didn't know about it, or wouldn't go through the process of finding out for me.
  6. Hi, I live in Melbourne, and I have just gone through the biggest rigmarole to get my dogs titer tested so that I don't have to vaccinate. My pup had the 3 puppy shots, with progressively worse reactions until after the last one he was covered with a bleeding rash AND had an ear infection. I got him better with natural treatments and natural food- the vet wanted to prescribe drugs and creams etc, and to sell me Science Diet, . The vet admitted that he had a vaccine reaction - but still wanted to do another vacc. TIME FOR A NEW VET! Ringing around, couldn't find a vet that did did titer testing - the staff hadn't even heard of it!!! Long story short, ( through Leenie on DOL), I rang a vet in Qld, who gave me the name of a vet in Melbourne who might do it for me. She did, but it was the first one she had ever done, and the blood had to go to the UK. Both dogs have massive immunity -even the pup with only his 3 puppy shots. I'll never vaccinate again, but I have to have a titer test for them every year so they can go to the kennel. If you need info about the process I'm happy to share. Yearly vaccinations are such a con by the big pharmaceutical companies. They could never get away with pushing yearly vaccinations for humans, but for animals anything goes.
  7. This was what I was thinking. Has he just been vaccinated? Some dogs get HOD within days/weeks of vaccination. This is a really serious condition. A lot of vets don't know the symptoms/ don't check for it. Mention it to the vet, and have a read of this. http://www.petshealth.com/dr_library/hod.html Hope this helps.
  8. Yes. I have level 2. But I would never claim to know everything, which is why I consult my text books, or contact Mt Vernon. Didn't mean to tread on your toes. I'm sure the assistant at your health food store is a good option I will bow out now as I was just brainstorming with the op. Good luck Bloss, I'm sure you will find the right answer.
  9. I'm using 5 remedies. Thought that would be okay as RR has 5 in it. Yeah, it should be ok normally Are you just treating one issue, or does he have a few different ones that you are addressing at the same time? The book suggests that you go back to using one or two remedies only (to treat one issue at a time), and "only start assessing again when there is no further improvement from this mix." Hope this helps. eta You can email [email protected] They offer free help and advice with the remedies. (This is Mount Vernon, the Dr Edward Bach Centre in England).
  10. I went and looked at my text book, and one suggestion for this was that too many remedies were being used at once. How many are you using?
