  1. Jess try All Fresh Seafoods in the Norfolk Plaza...

it's been a while but I have bough them there and been happy, but I'm no Cray connoisseur ;)

We used to buy them straight off the boat in Portland... they'd sell 'imperfect' Crays for $10 each!!!

Just because they had a leg or antennae missing the shops wouldn't take them.

For years my brother was buying them regularly to feed to his dogs!!!

I wonder if there is anyone closer to home selling them like that???

  2. My van is booked in at the painters next week.... look out for the "Snake-Mobile" on a street near you!

I've decided to buy myself a new Delica van, so Chan will have to drive the snakey one!

I'll get the new one painted up too, in time, but for now we'll just have the one with advertizing.

Here's a sneak peak.... although we have made some changes to this...

    post-14146-0-10660300-1328692688_thumb.png

    It's certainly gonna be a head-turner!

  3. Hi, am new to warrnambool Forums, but thought I would also like to say hi. I am going to Warrnambool Show so we might all be able to say hello and meet Crackers also being newbie.

    Welcome Crackers and Monster!

I wont be able to make it to the shows unfortunately due to work, but I hope there are a few Warrnambool DOLers there to meet!

  4. When you handle him do you have any protection like gloves or something?

No, I just hold them by the tail and use a hook with venomous snakes and try to keep their head away from me.

Red-Bellied Black Snakes aren't too bad anyway... you'd be very unlucky to die from a bite from one of these guys!

Here's a pic I just took of Elizabeth our Northern Bluetongue who we had sent down from Cairns recently.

She has a belly-full of little arms and legs right now. She has been moved in to the Nursery from this point on.

Unfortunately we had another Bluetongue give birth during the night when we had those big winds and rain... we lost the whole litter. :( We try and keep our lizards in an environment as close to their natural habitats as possible, and this includes minimal interference, but sometimes you wish you had interfered just a little bit. :(

Taking no chances with this big girl though!

She was mated to another Northern Bluetongue from the same locality, so we are expecting some amazing looking babies from this pairing! Will post some pics when they arrive.

We also have Ros, a Blotched Bluetongue, inside in the Nursery as she is due any day now.... busy days ahead!

  5. little Elmo looks freaking scary, not sure if it only due to the fact that i know he is venomous. you are a very brave man!! Will you be able to handle this one and will you?? What if you get bit? do you have to have anti venom on hand?

Yes I'll have to handle him, but not freely like our other snakes of course!

We're too far from the Base Hospital here...

  6. After seeing this on FB I will never eat nuggets again

    post-23033-0-21978900-1328508354_thumb.jpg

I believe McDonalds Nuggets in the US have a LOT lower 'chicken content' than here in Australia.... Still a worry though!!

As far as the 'badrap' campaign goes.... I'm lovin' it! Seriously, what sort of response were McDonalds Executives expecting from an ad campaign like that???

  7. First day back at obedience yesterday so I thought I would go and take lacy, I am not instructing any more just joining in for the time being, not sure if I will go back to it yet or not. At this stage it a probably not, anyway just wanted to say they have a guy there who has a Puli, and  how cute they are!

He is 8 months old, and a ball of fluff, I have never seen one in real life before, he is just starting to get cords in his coat. He was absolutely full on, jumping around, barking just really playful, lacy took one look at him and started growling, she just couldn't even figure out what he was all about, it was so funny. All he wanted to do was play and he had no manners what so ever, right in your face kind of thing and lacy was not impressed to have a dog with no manners trying to invade her space.

Whats everyone else been up too?

    Jj has snap arrived yet?

Sounds like a very typical Puli puppy to me!

No, Snap hasn't arrived yet.... just waiting on Northern Territory export papers to be processed, then we can arrange shipping. I'm hoping this will happen over the next week, but where NT is concerned.... who knows!

BUT!!! I DID buy myself another little pressie this week.... I finally found an "on-licence" Red-Bellied Black Snake. We have named him Elmo. :)

We received our import/export papers for him in the mail today, so as soon as the seller in South Australia receives theirs, we'll be good to go!

Anyone travelling back from Adelaide next week who can transport a venomous snake????? ;)

    Here's a pic of little Elmo. :o

  8. Oh is that the massage place from Fairy St, I just thought it was a new one... Don't really think there was an actual shop there, think it was where you went an enquired about Principal the new retirement village over our way...

Have you seen the massage place next to the new Woolworths also, very cheap but have been told they are a tad touchy feely with their bodies...

Yep you're right... I remembered today. It was like a "buy of the plan" office, but I can't think who was in there before that. Doesn't matter anyway I guess!

Mmmmmm! I'm liking the sound of the new Massage place..... give them a try! ;)

  9. QUOTE: "Also about pet shop I thought it was strange that a lady who ran a shop like that would breed BCs and sell them off not even vaccinated. I think she also bred a lot of the birds she was selling too?"

Oh really? I didn't know that. I guess the fact you run a Pet Store doesn't necessarily make you responsible or knowledgeable.

I like Prime too.... pretty restricted range, but there is quite a lot in there I do buy, especially when I have a litter in the house. I find it's not worth me buying wholesale for the odd item I need, so I go to Prime mostly.

Off topic, but relating to what we were discussing about local businesses...

I noticed today that the Thai Massage place (next to the dog groomers on Fairy St) has just moved to Lava Street, next to the Butchers.... I can't for the life of me think who WAS in that shop! Anyone remember???

  10. As someone who has a choice of Colac or Warrnambool Petstock, Colac will get my $$ every time. IMHO Warrnambool Petstock finally lost the plot when they decided they wanted to play in the aquarium market and got rid of half their other stock. I would've thought cats, dogs & horses would've been the main market in Warrnambool, and with a very good aquarium and equine supplies store - why the hell wouldn't you focus on cats and dogs like every other Petstock store? Especially since the other cat/dog store is next to useless?

I find the Colac staff friendly, helpful and the range over there is far better than Warrnambool has ever had. He can't be that bad. <img src='http://www.dolforums.com.au/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

    I agree completely, Jess.

After my Brother opened Aqua Life Aquarium, Pet Stock suddenly revamped the store and seemed to be concentrating mainly on the Fish & Aquarium stuff. That's all fine, except that they dropped a lot of good products in their place.

I used to get a bit of reptile stuff there, but these days they have bugger-all (which doesn't bother me now!! <img src='http://www.dolforums.com.au/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /> )

I do pop in to the Colac Pet Stock on my way through and reckon they're alright.

I dunno if I've ever met the manager before, but the people I've dealt with have been pretty good.

Not a bad range of reptile stuff there either, for a country town store!

    *Edited coz I'm stupid.

  11. Wow that sounds super exciting! I bet the kids are wrapped at having such a unique pet?!

Did anyone else notice that the grooming shop in town had shut down, the one need garden tyre power?

Yeah you'd think so, but the kids are just like "Meh" about it.... no big deal!

Pooch Paradise (formerly my Doggy Heaven) has been closed for quite a while.

I don't know why it closed, it always seemed busy enough.

There is a Thai Grocers in there now, which had originally planned to lease the old Pronto Deli site, in Norfolk Plaza. They were about to sign a 3 year lease for it when the Pooch Paradise site became available.

As it is right next door to their existing business (Thai Massage) they took the lease very quickly!

So, after Pronto Deli moved to the new site on Raglan Pde, there have been a number of interested parties looking at the old Pronto store, one of which was a real Italian chap who wanted to open an "authentic" Pizzeria, as he reckons "all Pizza's in Warrnambool are rubbish!".

That was quite a while ago now and I haven't heard any more from him.... :(

  12. Our Crocodile Tank arrived on a truck today!!!

Lots to do now... We have to silicone PVC pipes into each corner to house the heaters and filter pipes, otherwise Crocodiles tend to 'destroy' them.

We've been warned that ANYTHING inside the tank will be promptly crushed so we are going to great lengths to protect all the expensive components!!

Once that's all done we can fill it up and have it running for a couple of weeks before 'Snap' arrives. :)

  13. I am going to start going to Lava Street.

James is quite experienced with Reptiles and we have been working together quite closely.

They are bringing me all their 'business' and I am giving them all mine from Repti-Life.

I must say, I have been very satisfied to date.

Barb... No, they are not starting their own practice I can assure you of that. Will PM you later... ;)

  14. Has everyone who uses the Woolasten Vet clinic heard that Sue and Craig have left? I was surprised to say the least and I will miss them for sure, they have been great with my lot especially Craig with Cooper, he let me stay with him for procedures that you normally wouldn't as he knew what he was like, I think Cooper even doesn't mind the vets now. Craig also did all the testing for my girls for Delta. I rang the vets yesterday and they said they are happy to continue doing it. I don't think they have full replacements yet as the receptionist told me they have locums but will be getting some more permanent vets soon.

How's everyone coping with the hot snap? I'm at work today and yesterday and it certainly is NOT pleasant out there in the big green shed!,!

    Yes I heard recently.

There was a thread in OT about Vets "merging" etc and I made mention of this clinic there so I'll cut and paste it.

I must say that I am not very surprised to hear they are leaving.... While I'd not seen Sue for a little while, Craig seemed unhappy with the recent changes in the practice and had let a few things slip to me, which made me think he is "shopping around for options"....

    ....A little different,

but my Vet Clinic recently merged with a number of local regional clinics in the area.

At first I didn't notice much change.... new name, new signage etc but the same service.

I had always developed a really good relationship with the Vets there and always saw one of about three.

They all knew me well, they knew all my animals both furry and scaly, and I trusted them and they knew that, which meant they were free to do whatever was needed at any time.

I ran an account with them for many years, even though their policy stated 'no accounts'. I was happy.

Lately however, it seems that every-time I go there I seem to get a different Vet... one of many. It's as if they shuffle them around the various clinics, or maybe just have high staff turn-over now? I don't know.

I feel like a new client every-time I go there... never know who's behind the counter and they don't know me.

It's a little sad, as I have been a loyal client.... I've done a lot for them as they have for me.

Tonight I have heard that my two favorite Veterinarians, a Husband & Wife duo, have resigned and are leaving the practice to 'pursue other interests'...... I don't think they've been so happy since the merger, to be honest.

With them leaving, I see no real reason to continue on, as it is like starting over.

I might try another clinic.... at least all the Vets in the other clinics know me to some extent.... it's a fairly small town.

So it goes to show that it is most definitely the people that make the practice.... the 'merger' didn't matter one bit. The changing of staff mattered lots. :( ...

Are others going to stick around or move elsewhere???

There is another Vet here in town who are particularly good with reptiles (as the Vets own a few themselves!) but I've been concerned about other things I've heard from people who go there with their dogs etc, so not sure what to do.

Craig & Sue were the better Vets at the practice and I'm sorry to see them leave.

  15. OMG There are so many people having bubbies at the moment! Everyone's been waiting for the new hospital to be completed I think!

Cav the Crocodile is for our home, not allowed to have them in the shop unfortunately!

Still, got some cool things for the kids to see. Went to Melbourne today and picked up some Bluetongues, Cunningham Skinks, various Pythons, some big turtles etc and on Wednesday I have some Funnel-Web Spiders coming as well as lots of different Scorpions, Giant Cockroaches and Giant Millipedes.

Some time this week I have a pair of Freshwater Eels arriving, who will be residents of our Turtle Pond.... just for something interesting to see. :)

The week after I have lots more snakes arriving as well as more Bearded Dragons, Eastern Water Dragons, Tarantulas, LOTS of Baby Turtles and other cool stuff. ;)

:welcome: to our little Forum, Solly!

    I smell Pizza.....
