  1. My dogs went through a terrible bed destroying stage. They sleep inside but for a while they had carpet offcuts to sleep on outside which did the job. They also had trampoline beds. Chazer had a thing where he would drop a toy through the hole in the corner than play with it through the hole so he even managed to destroy a trampoline bed

  2. wow, some great photos. Lots of people seem to have hit the beach and got some great shots.

I had a challenge to do a sleep photo this week, Chazer wouldn't sleep and I took a couple while I was waiting for him to close his eyes. I straightened up his curled ear and he stormed off in a huff

  3. 16 is a great age Deltacharlie

Sure is :) She is going pretty well considering. Still has the border collies under control haha. Although I nearly lost her to a bone that got caught in her throat yesterday... That was scary and no more bones for her!

Glad she is OK. I had to pull a pigs ear out from Tillys throat years ago and I haven't fed them to my dogs since

  4. Showdog doesn't need to mean untrained or can't do anything, although it seems to be a perception :-)

My old girl who has passed away now had CD and agility titles. The only time she sat was when I asked her to, her natural thing was to either stand or drop, some dogs just don't like it. There was nothing physically stopping her from doing it

  5. Hi Helen,

They are a breed we have had for over 30 years. Very easy to train using motivational methods. Very easy to ruin if any harshness or çorrections given. They can be very birdy which is what they were bred for. We have found the girls are more birdy than the boys and the boys have always been the best lap dogs ever! Coats vary. Our blue beltons had much heavier coats than our lemons/oranges. A couple of good grooming sessions a week and a daily check for prickles and burrs etc is needed. Show prep is a lot more. Now only showing a male neuter (who also has his championship). Happy to give you more information but can't figure out how to share my details with you.

Thanks Setterspan. I would love it if you could send me an email to [email protected]

  6. Hi Kamuzz. Never ever try to use any physical pressure with an English Setter. They do however respond brilliantly to motivational training, shaping. If he is doing a meerkat impression you might be holding your luring hand too high. Just move your hand backward just slightly above his nose with a treat. It also may help to have his back near a wall/fence so he can't move his whole body away. Also make sure the floor is not slippery. Happy to speak more about this to you. I have just trained my show ES for his first Rally novice title (only took 2 months and he scored a 98 out of 100 in one round) and he is the 7th ES I have owned and trained.

Hi, just wondering how you find English Setters in general and what they are like to train. Also do you show and how much work is required for the coat

  7. I would love to join in. I am doing a 52 week project with Chazer. I have done 52 week projects before and made a photo book at the end, it is great to have. Because I have done Chazer before I am attempting to do a year on black, will see how it goes.

I love those 52 week websites mentioned, great inspiration.

Lovely photos everyone, and I really enjoyed the sunset shots.

Here is mine for week 1:

Chazer: You exhausted me yesterday, don't you know I am an old man now, I am chilling under the air conditioning today

Me: Well as long as you open your eyes and let me take a photo
