  1. Thanks kja. I should of thought to do the grain in PS actually. Having a moment I must of been. Clipping path. Select "new path" in your paths palette. Use your pen tool and trace around the part you want to isolate using points. Then you can select it in the paths palette when ever you need it. I exported a B&W from Lightroom as well as a colour and put the colour on a layer with the B&W in Photoshop. Then draw a path, select, add a slight feather, and cut to reveal the colour. Does that make sense?
  2. That chick is Ralphdog. My sister. I forced her to model for me, she hates it.
  3. Yep that's right I dont have a life..... so here is my "biscuit" Forgot to add: Nikon D200 Lens 24-70 ISO1000 (bumped as I wanted a grunge grain) 32mm F/4.5 1/160 Lightroom black & white Photoshop - clipping path for the colour. Edit with final images. Got around and did the PS work.
  4. I just did the groceries and ended up buying 4 packets of biscuits. I think my stomach took over instead of common sense.
  5. That is great. Love the colour.
  6. OK my sugestion for this weeks one of the 3 items is: TAP
  7. Yep prob should be in discussion. I will move to there. Raz, if we went on a winner Vikie and Kja would be chosing each week..
  8. Am I getting ahead of myself? Sorry just throwing ideas around. I am sure you can submit, I love seeing your work. I was thinking maybe a tap, tooth brush and tooth paste. They can all relate into one shot or seperate ideas. Toothpaste could be fun to work with. If it sux, no worries, I wont be offended.
  9. Angel Dust I like the horse shoe even if I cant find one of them around my house. So new week, new challenge? I was thinking maybe a "tap"
  10. I think I might be moving my camera around to much. I will do the point were the subject is ending up. I also think I need a 70-200 lens or something. Calvin is not great to learn on as he is fast and white..... so easy to miss and over expose. Yep my model has both CH and CL. This camera is so much more heavy then my D40 so I have to do small spurts of learning. Those D3 are even bigger aren't they?
  11. OK that explains it. It was a good effort, I like it.
  12. Clicking Mad. How did you shot the shoe moving on the skateboard? I thought you must of used a 200 or 400 lens and sat back few meters. I just see a little midget sitting on the end of the skateboard clicking away.
  13. Thanks guys I played around tonight and still not capturing great action shots. But got some nice stills. I wonder what that grain was, thanks ruderfly. I dont mind the effect on some pic's but not on every single one. It was on ISO Auto. Oops. I have been using A & S more as at-least the camera can figure half of it out to give me a clue. I will practice more with M and the metering. I think I have a top end lens?? AF-S 24-70 F/2.8, and it auto focuses fast. But god knows what I am doing wrong with action shots.
  14. Thanks Kja. I will have a play, I need to do some proper reading on aperture and shutter speed to understand it in my head better. What do you set your camera on most of the time S or A or M? I know P is being a tad lazy and not going to get the benefit of the camera. Calvin is a funny cat, him and Ralph are best mates.
  15. Kja very nice. You have such soft colour. Nice shoes too. That could be in a magazine for shoe advertising.
  16. My Nikon D200 arrived today. It is far better structure for my lens. But LOL no taking the easy ride and slapping my setting to sports mode when things just get to hard. I really dont understand shutter speed and how to set it properly or were to set it yet, it's so different to my D40. So off to read/study manual. I wish it just came with a little lepricorn that showed me what to do. Had a quick play and I must be able to get these sharper. Any quick advice most welcome.
  17. Kja. I got excited thinking you had put some work up.
  18. Clicking mad I like the second one, very abstract and cool.
  19. that second pic is a beauty shoemonster. Can we critique photo's? I't would be nice to hear from some of the pro's on here to tell us what we are doing right and wrong and suggestions.
  20. Wow very cool with the stiletto. Plus the slug thing in the water. Yuck but cool. Had a go at with a tennis ball SP1/600 FL38 F6.3. SP1/200 FL38 F7.1. I am over exposing him, how do you photograph in bright sun? Edited a pic, I liked better.
  21. Vickie how did you get your action pictures in your "trim" thread so sharp? Is it due to a fast camera/lens? Do you flick out a few frames at time or just one click?
  22. Ok Thanks guys. I actually think it's a light issue and I still struggle with setting it correct. I found a pretty good price on the D200 so when that arrives I will see if it's my camea or the operator. I know I should have gone D300 but I saved myself $100's as I only like to potter around with photography plus I want a new lens.
  23. I have...... some styling Nike...... I really like your "actually this one nearly made it too". FHRP. Took me awhile to figure that out, I thought you had Photoshoped that ball.... :D Kja waiting very patiently for your work.
  24. Question. Do most of you use auto focus or manual focus? I find my camera will get stuck and not let me take a shot at close up. Is that because I am too close and passed my focal length for my lens? Or is it because I am expecting to much out of my little D40x.
  25. This is so nice. Did you use lighting or was it natural light?
