  1. Oh yes, cannot say it was fun at all, me cuddling him on the lounge after he had passed and then watching the blood foaming from his nose!! What you say tho D4F makes alot of sense as the Vetmedin apparently affects the lungs (fluid build up etc) in the long term!!
  2. What is the cause of this? Bobby our Italian Greyhound foamed blood from the nose after he had passed away last night. I am just looking for some answers I guess. He had congestive heart failure & was on a daily dose of Vetmedin. He also was on daily phenomav (barbituates) for his epilespy. He was also on Prednisone daily. He had an enlarged liver from the barbituates. He had skin cancers on his belly. He also had a bad tooth (almost to the point of abscess) As you can imagine, he was pretty much at his 'time'. BUT I just want to rule out that he didnt eat anything 'bad', such as a poisoned mouse/rat OR potentially had been baited. Bobby's days were spent at our very good friends' house with companion, Ella, the GSD, but was home with us during the night. The friends lived on a corner block with easy access for someone to throw something over the fence. Ella, the GSD is fine, so I am thinking maybe it was just Bobby in his old age that this would have happened to him 'post death'. TIA..
  3. With great sadness I write this post. Our beloved, annoying, quirky, one of a kind, Bobby the Iggy left us to make his new home at Rainbow Bridge last night. Some of you probably know of Bobby's past ailments. These were all controlled by large doses of daily meds. Poor lil mite must have reached his time.. Scott left for uni at 5.50pm, but rang me to tell me that Bobby was having one of his 'not so good days', wobbly, etc, so he had left him on his bed in the lounge room with his blanket over him. I left work pretty much on whistle time so that I could get home to keep an eye on him. I got home at 6.45pm and must have missed him by literally 5-10mins. Bobby had passed lying on his bed in the lounge snug in his warm blanket. I loved him dearly, for the 3 short BUT full years that I was lucky enough to have him for. I will miss him so much, but take great comfort knowing that Ruby, Matilda & Shadow will all be there to greet him at Rainbow Bridge, united once more, just like the good ol days on the orchard.. Bobby Dazzler!! You were one in a trillion!! I will miss you sooooooooo much!! I will miss you clawing at me to give you more pats. I will miss you 'talking' to me in your gorgeous iggy whine.. I will miss your stinky farts. I will miss watching you sprawled out lying in the sun. I will miss your constant whining for food. I will miss everything about you. Goodbye sweet man, and cant wait to see you again one day at the Bridge.. xxxxxxxxx
  4. Thanks guys. It is definitely a rock & a hard place situation!! I wouldnt be so desperate if the sister wasnt putting 'death threats' on our poor Coco. I feel bad enough that she isnt with us without having someone speak so cruelly about her..
  5. Thank u so much 4 responses guys. I am currently at a wedding but have duly noted ur advice & will be taking matters further with the bc. The only reason we applied and accepted was on the grounds we could have both our dogs cit is unnacceptable that we cannot. So pls do watch this space. I won't be pushed to the side & disregarded. I have rights too. Thank you again. Will be back online tomorrow to see further advice but all very helpful so far.
  6. Yep, it was sort of like a 'Oh sorry, btw Strata havent passed it' The property manager that handled our lease was filling in for our actual property manager so he probably treated our lease with blase as he just wanted to get it out of the way..
  7. We didnt sign any agreements until the day we picked up the keys which was one day before move day. We got the approval over the ph & having worked in RE I really didnt have cause to believe to have to get written permission from strata as I myself as a property manager had drawn up leases & liaised with strata managers from previous. Next time I will be seeking this no matter how painful it is to the property manager to obtain.. The light at the end of the tunnel is the fact that as of 1st July a new NSW res tenancy act is being put in place which gives tenants the right to give only 4 wks notice if 6mths or more into the lease & 6wks notice if earlier than six mths into the lease if they wish to vacate without incurring any further penalties such as paying rent at the existing premises until new tenants are found. But this doesnt happen till July & I really dont know if his sister will give us peace & stop making threats against poor Coco until then.. Trust me, when this new act comes into play I will be vacating where I am so that I can have Bobby in peace & permission!!
  8. They have already put fwd their decision which is No. So basically we arent allowed to have our dogs here on strata's notification, however the owner of the townhouse has no issue with them being here.
  9. Coco is a MF. She is fully desexed. She is heartwormed. She is approx 6yrs of age and I rescued her from paws rescue back on March 05. She is in very good health with no ailments known of. She gets on very well with other children, other pets (just not the friend's GSD) & is a good natured little dog that loves cuddles & loves going for walks or just sitting lazily on the lounge. She is accustomed to inside & outside. She is extremely low maintenance..
  10. It has come to a point that I need to come on to DOL to ask for assistance.. This is not a decision that has come very lightly or easily at all.. I have been reluctant to even share the situation until now.. And I do this at the risk of being flamed & possibly outcasted by the rest of the DOL community.. It goes against what I stand for but I have nowhere else to turn or to go.. Starting off.. S & I both found new jobs at the end of last year Dec 09. Both were city CBD & outskirts based. So the decision was made to move from Penrith to Parra to lessen the commute time but still find a property that enabled us to have our remaining dogs Bobby & Coco.. We started looking at properties, found a 3 bed townhouse and thought 'Beauty, this will accommodate us all really well'. This townhouse is a good size, has a paved courtyard out back, but best of all has a park directly across us and in very decent locality of an off leash park. So we put in our applications for the property clearly stating that we had 2 x small dogs of 6kg & under each. So late mid Dec 09 we found out we had been approved for this townhouse. Our pets had also been approved.. Even better.. The RE advises that they are closing over the xmas break from 19th Dec and resuming 2nd Jan.. No probs. Our move date is 4th Jan so all seems smooth & easy. S & I go about organising ourselves for the move, celebrate xmas and all in all prepare ourselves for the start of a new chapter, starting our new jobs & organising our upcoming wedding. 2nd Jan we receive a call from the property manager stating that there is a slight problem.. The owner had approved the dogs, BUT the strata has not cleared it.. Ok, so we both ask how we overcome this and seek approval from strata bearing in mind that nothing had been approved or declined.. We are advised that a special meeting has to be called if we want a decision sooner rather than later, which will cost $150 but we should have an outcome by 1-2wks. The other choice was to wait for the next body corporate meeting which could be weeks/mths away. So S & I decide to outlay the $150 so that we can seek a decision earlier understandably so. We are instructed that there is a cat in one of the townhouses in the complex so shouldnt be too much of an issue. So remembering this is 2 days out from us moving on the 4th of Jan. The removalists had been booked, furniture packed, bond & rent paid, electricity services booked for disconnection & reconnection, new tenants moving into our previous place, etc. So the decision is made in the meantime to temporarily house Coco with S' mum, but Bobby on the sly to stay with us in the evenings, but would stay with our friends up the road 500m away during the day when we werent home where their GSD would keep him company. (Bobby is 13, epileptic, has congestive heart failure & all in all would not survive being uprooted & rehomed temporarily until we sorted this situation out. So 1 weeks turns into 3 weeks, then a month. We are requesting if the meeting has been called & if decisions have been made. We are told no meeting has been called as yet, but will advise as soon as it does, letters have been sent out etd. We get jack of it and ask if we can speak to strata directly. So after the contact no's are given we contact them and find out that a meeting was in fact called & the decision on the matter is no, we cannot have the dogs on the complex, the other residents dont wish to have any dogs. GREAT!! So for the past few weeks Coco has been quite happy at S' mum's house (she is on 100 acres with 4 other dogs, couldnt be better). Bobby has unfortunately been sneakily housed with us at night, but stays at the friend's place during the day whilst we are at work which works great. Bobby is also with us on weekends & lives in the house during weekends if we go out for a couple of hrs with access to the courtyard for toileting, etc. We have had a couple of complaints about dogs on the premises (Bobby can get quite sooky if left outside) and that if we dont remove him we will be given 2 weeks notice. So you can imagine we have been so quiet & sneaky from then on in to have him with us and make him as comfortable as possible in his last days. My predicament comes about with S' sister. She has sent text msgs to S asking when we are sorting out the dog situation with Coco (she lives at home with S mum and is 25 yrs of age, but does not own the property or contribute to the mortgage). The last txt msg came a few days ago saying that if we dont come & get the dog she will get rid of it. She has been quite nasty about everything saying that S manipulated his mother in order to keep the dog, which isnt true at all. We have been trying to come to a better situation ourselves, S had a potential new home lined up with Coco with a work colleague but the husband refused so that fell through. We cant have Coco with us as she is a yapper & a whiner.. Plus having 2 x dogs on the premises when we arent really allowed any at all is a bit much. We cant afford to move anymore. We are paying $480/wk now & having started new jobs plus spending as you can imagine a couple of thousand in moving costs etc we simply cannot afford it. Plus paying double rent for breaking our lease until new tenants are find for this current property.. You get the picture. I am so reluctant to re-home her as I have a connection with her because of Ruby & I dont want anything bad to happen to her. But with threats such as we have been receiving from his sister, I have no choice but to come on here. I have asked family members, friends, etc. but their situations are impossible for having a dog - my nephew is fostering a police dog that needs one-on-one only, my parents cant as my dad is unwell with parkinsons and in a situation of being put into a care facility, my niece lives in a unit & my sister cant as she travels extensively. S father lives in a unit in Pyrmont as does his brother so that situation is futile. Our friends up the road would gladly have her but Coco & the GSD dont get on at all. My next resort is posting on the forum to have Coco rehomed. Can anyone help?? As long as it is understood that she has a place to go to I believe the sister will back off and we dont have to surrender her immediately if someone were to say that they could adopt her or foster care her in a few weeks.
  11. Such a gorgeous tribute LM!! They always leave an imprint on your heart even after many years have lapsed!!
  12. Oh Boke, my heart plummeted when I came into this thread and saw this news.. I so hope my Ruby & Dyzney will be there to meet your Jordy at the Bridge. Three together sharing a similar bond. At least you were able to give him his wings peacefully and you were able to cuddle & hold him on his transition from here to the Bridge. Much sadness & love.. FD.
  13. colour relation is really interesting Vizslas can get auto-immune diseases, there are Vizslas that have IMT not common but they do get it. My vet had diagnosed a Goldie 10 days before Jordan, and interestingly a Vizsla lady had her girl diagnosed a few years ago now, was at exactly this time of year Hmmm, interesting about the time of year Boke.. Ruby twice went down with it at the latter part of the year both times!! Which is the same as your Jordy going down with it, as well as the goldie and other Vizsla..
  14. It is a bit worrying and surprising about Jordy isnt it!! I actually find it fascinating to research. Yes it is a dreadful horrible disease, but I am appreciative that I did research it back then and now today as if it can help anyone else in any way just a little bit then it is definitely beneficial.
  15. Interesting Dyzney!! Ruby was predominantly tan & white, but she was considered a tri MF as she had patches of black on her... It is the same that there is a predisposition in certain breeds. I know it runs high in BC's as well as another breed I cant think of the top of my head right now... Poodle maybe?? Yep, Poodle... IMHA and ITP are more commonly seen in dogs than cats. It is believed that cocker spaniels, toy and miniature poodles and Old English sheepdogs are breeds predisposed to develop IMHA. The latter two breeds and standard poodle are also at increased risk for developing ITP. Most affected dogs are middle-aged females. No breed or sex predilection is appreciated in cats. You should remember, however, that these conditions can develop in any dog or cat of any age, either sex, neutered or not. There is no scientific evidence that these diseases are caused by anything you feed your pet or where your pet lives. Taken from this website.. http://www.cloudnet.com/~jdickson/imhaitphandout.htm Interestingly the vets always advised that Ruby's was primary.. After finding out about the lymphoma I am truly thinking it was now secondary, and just never picked up on the lymphoma (may have been undiagnosed for many years) or developed it later, but had the cell abnormalities but was never picked up on??
  16. Hey guys. After reading back on some threads trying to remember a few things I came across a post from Dogbesotted where she stated that she lost her Morris to lymphoma. Previous to this her Morris was diagnosed with ITP. My Ruby also passed from lymphoma.. Here is msgs back and forth between us both that might shed some more light onto ai diseases and perhaps a link to cancer/tumour.. Hey dogbesotted!! Just reading back on a thread of yours where you mentioned Morris had ITP then later died of Lymphoma.. My Ruby had ITP, and then passed away from Lymphoma back in Apr 08. I dont know if this is coincidence, but maybe there is a correlation with the two?? Love to hear your thoughts on it. FD Greetings! FD I dont know but a friend ofmine who is a vet reckons that there is a link. but maybe it is a wonky immune systems or something. she thought that when the Moz was dxd first with ITP that he had cancer and wondered why no further investigations were done. thats two coincidences that we know of so i am assuming there are many many others and therefore it is not a coincidence. maybe we sould search a bitmore. Hey Helen!! I would be more than keen to do more research!! Interestingly Ruby had an overactive thyroid back around the end of 05. The vets were astounded (specialist Max Zuber) as overactive is extremely rare in dogs, BUT there was an almost 100% correlation of it with cancer or tumour. There was no discovered tumour or cancer in Ruby. Ruby had half her thyroid removed as she had 'unusual' cells on one side of her thyroid. It all just seems too coincidental dont you think?? I still think that there is also a correlation between auto-immune disease and ivermectin, as to what I am not sure, but I am not 100% that ivermectin causes it, but I certainly believe it aggravates auto immune conditions that are already lying dormant if that makes sense?? Anyway, I will do some research and keep you posted!! Cheers, Di interesting about the ivermectin. . just before Morris developed ITP he had been given his yearly vac booster - a matter of two days or so. auto immune disease is such a complex area i think and so many dogs seem to be developingit.. some heartworm meds are ivermectin based H Ok, so I did a quick google and came up with the following link.. Under the results heading it had this sentence that struck out to me.. *In three cases the ITP was diagnosed 1–10 years before diagnosis of lymphoma* (this is in humans of course) http://www.haematologica.org/cgi/content/full/93/3/447 ..another interesting paragraph with link to it below.. The diagnosis of ITP is usually one of exclusion of underlying systemic disorders that result in increased peripheral destruction or decreased production of platelets. ITP is an autoimmune disorder characterized by auto reactive antibodies against platelets resulting in splenic sequestration and thrombocytopenia. Immune mediated thrombocytopenia can also occur in the settings of lymphoproliferative disorders, especially chronic lymphocytic leukemia. The association between ITP and lymphoma, in particular Hodgkin disease, has also been frequently reported [4, 5, 6]. There have been approx 20 cases of ITP reported in association with various solid tumors, including lung, breast, and ovarian cancers [7, 8, 9]. Kim and Boggs [10] reported malignancy in 10 of 52 consecutive patients admitted for ITP; six of the ten cases had solid tumors. http://www.joplink.net/prev/200611/15.html Anyway, from my quick little look I am of the assumption that Ruby had the underlying issue of lymphoma (most probably affecting her bone marrow) that she was battling for years unbeknownst to us, and that the ITP was a sub-symptom of the lymphoma.. So there does seem to be a link to the both!! Hmmm interesting stuff!! Cheers, Di well damnation!!!!!! Morris developed Lymphoma about a year or so after ITP. prior to ITP he appeared healthy a active. he was 5 years old then.. athletic pig dog ( loved pig well roasted with lightly steamed sno peas followed by vanilla ice cream as a treat ) we have both learned something today I think thanks helen interesting about the ivermectin. . just before Morris developed ITP he had been given his yearly vac booster - a matter of two days or so. auto immune disease is such a complex area i think and so many dogs seem to be developingit.. some heartworm meds are ivermectin based H Yeh, the first time I discovered Ruby's ITP was a week after she had the Proheart SR12 yearly injection. Again, her platelet levels dropped again about a week after her booster for the ProHeart again.. That is when I considered the link and decided to cease any further heartworm treatments on her. How long did Morris fight the ITP?? Di Morris fought ITP hard for 3 months until his platelets were again "normal". he nearly died three times, and had 4 blood transfusions. then had major surgery for bladder stones due to the pred. was just recovering from that and Looking fantastic when I discovered all his lymph nodes swollen whiol;e bathing him. he was gone 6 weeks later ( along with a goodly piece of my heart) Helen ************************** This is the end of our pm posts. I truly do think that there is a correlation with AI diseases such as ITP and Lymphoma. It is definitely worth checking it out. Ruby had the ITP from end 03 till the start of 06.. She had overactive thyroid end of 05 (another disorder linked to cancer in dogs) THEN she died from Lymphoma in Apr 08. I honestly feel that the Lymphoma was ailing her for years, but we just never knew until I guess it got to a Level 3 that eventually became her undoing.. I hope this helps. I know it must seem random my links/postings and that I perhaps clutching at straws, but having gone through what I did with Ruby I just want to help in any way I can so that we have more information to help prevent losing our precious ones...
  17. Found another thread about AIHA (the red blood count disorder) too, which may give some helpful information.. http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...755&hl=imha
  18. Here also is a link I found on more research on Vitamin C & ITP.. http://www.pdsa.org/itp-journal-stories/vitcart.htm
  19. Here is the thread from a while back that I found out Vitamin C helping generate more platelet count.. HTH.. http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...&hl=Vitamin
  20. Another thing I remembered from doing loads of my research back when Ruby had the disease that Vitamin C (although still inconclusive) had some positive outcomes with auto-immune diseases. It is worth a shot. I had Ruby on Vitamin C supplements for a couple of years. Dont know if it helped her case, but the vet at the time said it was worth a shot, and there was no possible way to overdose on it anyway. The body pretty much takes what it needs and discards the rest. I'm sorry to hear that Jordy is not doing so well. Please keep us updated on his progress and know that we are here and wanting & hoping that Jordy pulls through this!!
  21. I can fully appreciate what you are saying Dyzney. Ruby, being a smaller breed did fare quite ok. I do think IMHA is alot harder to deal with than the standard ITP. The fluctuations in red blood cell count seems more drastic & far more life threatening. I will not refute that. You have offered some great advice. What a great community we have in DOL!!
  22. I would definitely seclude him and restrict his activities for the next few days. Let himself pick up again. You will notice in a few weeks that he will be fine to participate in normal activities.
  23. Oh, I thought I better add too. My vet never allowed Ruby to be vaccinated again either, as he felt the risk was too great & felt it would extremely aggravate the disease. Might be an idea to talk to your vet about this too. Really quite important.
  24. Hoping Jordy has picked up from the transfusion!! Ruby's also was primary.. Lots of testing concluded this. I think at one stage we were considering a bone marrow transplant. To be honest, I cant remember exactly why, but I will see if I can find the paperwork from the vet to exactly explain why this was, and what the procedure was. I just wanted to add (just thought of it too) that Ruby first came up with the disease not long after having her first ProHeart SR12 Heartworm injection. The following year she got the injection again, and funnily enough her platelets dropped drastically again (she was on something like half a pred at this stage and quite manageable, but had to increase the dosage back to 1 full pred for quite some weeks). I didnt realise the connection until I read back on my DOL threads and noticed the timeline. 2-3 weeks each time after her injection did we notice her illness. I still to this day feel that the SR12 was either the cause OR a contributing factor. My vet refuted it, and most vets will saying that the research is inconclusive. I know in my heart that this was the cause of her disease. I never heartwormed Ruby again after that. All heartworm treatments contain Ivermectin. This is what I believe is the chemical that caused the ITP. Ruby lived another 3yrs without ever being heartwormed and never had an issue with it, or contracting heartworm, so I felt it was safer for her not to do so. I am based West of Sydney, so not a hugely predominate area for heartworm, but still a higher risk than colder climate areas.
