  1. IF If If lol.

What is so hard to understand that this bloke in all probability wouldnt have cared about the RB law? a fine lol look what happened. Are declared RB's monitered 24/7, of course not.

That is why he would have been forced to, because on his own he didn't care and the other dog and owner paid the price. If he had to comply with RB legislation the dog wouldn't be escaping. He has just added fuel to the fire, how does this show people these dogs aren't monsters?

WOW...that one line just put me WAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY offside!

these dogs are NOT monsters, and lines like that help NO ONE!

ANY dog, bred, raised to hunt, left in suburbia ,could be a danger unless properly contained, and even then..questionable..

I have known a few people to label their dog a pit when it was just a cross of many sorts.. Why is it a mutt till proven otherwise with papers ,and a pit till proven otherwise....

Not sure how good your reading comprehension is, but I said it was important to show people these dogs aren't monsters. If you don't realise by now that is what the general public think when it comes to pitbulls you need to get out more. How did you think that BSL got passed if ignorant people don't think these dogs are child eating monsters?

Joe public may read your statement and think you're in agreeance.. comprehension is fine thanks!

If Joe Public reads my post they would see exactly what I said, "He has just added fuel to the fire, how does this show people these dogs aren't monsters?". Bolded it to make it easier for you.

  2. Of course they're not monsters - but to Joe Public they are. Partly because of media frenzy, but quite frankly, there ARE too many incidents that DO involve pitties. Chicken and egg.

There are just not enough examples out there of people doing the responsible thing with these dogs, so the public perception is that they ARE monsters. And it's the dogs that suffer for it.

Problem is,its like u can have 1000000000000 dogs that dont cause a problem... media isnt interested in that... ONE attack, and its all over the news!

    proof or speculation?..

We keep hearing pit this pit that but we never know the real facts.

Do too many wankers own this breed... damn straight and damn shame!

  5. Bottom line is - all dogs, regardless of breed, need to be effectively contained. By their very nature, pitty owners need to be that much MORE vigilant, no matter how docile their dog is, precisely to combat the public perception that they are dangerous dogs.

Those that are deliberately flouting their Council By-Laws need to have the book thrown at them. They are not doing themselves, their dog and their breed any favours if the general public believe they are rednecks. And they are their own worst enemies when it comes to BSL - they're the ones hammering the nail in the coffin, but have the audacity to blamestorm everyone else.

If you own a pitty you have an obligation to do everything in your power, and then some, to ensure it is safe, and others are safe from it. Don't go crying in your weeties if you don't comply with the law, which is also there to protect the community, and some people from their own stupidity.

Had me till your final line... THese laws arent meant to protect the community..ANYONE with half a brain and a little insight KNOWS BSL doesnt work. Politicians know it doesnt work..its simply there to make the community THINK that they are protected against the media hyped boogie man..

    We all know that.. Cmon!!

  7. Not sure whats more upsetting here, the fact that an elderly dog has been attacked in his own yard or the fact that a few APBT fanciers get on here and highjack the thread....

The thing i see more and more of these days is less accountability and more blame games! Makes me SICK!!!

The dog needs to be PTS asap what sort of MORON uses an APBT for hunting and then sets it free in a suburban back yard with inadequate fencing?

and who the hell wants to live in fear behind some loser with a fence slamming APBT??? ( or any other unstable dog for that matter) People need to made use common sense! This guy needs to be heavily fined so as to act as a little reminder ....

Any decent person would be coughing up for the vet bills and heading over with a very sincere apology!

    DITTO!!!!!!!!!

  8. How old is she?

Chloe became obsessed with drinking water all of a sudden and was diagnosed with cushings disease - however she did have other symptoms like bloated belly and ravaging hunger. But she would basically just drink and pee, drink and pee.... It was just not normal she seemed to have insatiable thirst.

If she's a youngun' maybe she just likes water alot LOL. Sash loves water, dunks her whole head in and drinks alot (esp when she is unsettled), but nothing that I would say is abnormal, more just habit.

Shes about 8 mths... i suspect its her love of water..she even jumps in the shower or bath with us if given half the chance. I dont find the water spilt though..ive been checking for that, and bought a heavy bowl specially for her,so she cant tip it as easily.

  9. I have noticed that my new girl here has a drinking fettish/problem..

Im a bit confused as to if its a problem,or the fact she loves water. She is at her waterbowl all the time.. since having her here i am forever filling the inside bowl.

She loves to play in water so im not sure if its just her obsession with water or something else... any ideas?

  10. My life long pal Sage was PTS 23/3/09.

We had seen the vet the week before to check up on her,and found to have kidney failure,by Sunday night she had deteriated to nothing, and could hardly walk.

My vet came to my house Monday and she was lovingly PTS in our arms.. we now have had her ashes returned to us..she will stay with me forever!

She was a real character ,and very very bossy... It feels very very strange without her in my house.

Sage, you know we love you,and I know that you love us.. we will meet again

    Rest in peace

  11. I would probably tell them that ALL dogs bite, the only way to eliminate the risk of dog bites is to eliminate the species... I would probably mention that most toddlers bite too...

This is true... Im forever telling my youngest to stop biting the dogs!!

I had my cousin here yesterday who was sitting there with Indie between his legs looking up at him with big sooky eyes.. I commented tongue in cheek, what terrible dogs these breeds are.

He comments,"I still dont like American Bull pits or watever they are called. Ive seen them".. I said "yea, and when every you have seen a bad one, have you looked at the other end of the leash".. He said "yeah ,I know.. but still..."

I finished off with " the media has done a great job hasnt it".. What more can you say!!

Sometimes,it's not even owners with tough guy attitudes that have misbehaving dogs. Lewis for instance,is quite well behaved here, when he stays with my brother (joint custody deal lol, long story) he comes home like a kid coming home from grandmas! He is pushy, dominating and disobedient..

I huge mistake with animal ownership,is the owners need to feel that they are spoiling thier dog,and feel mean for giving boundaries. My sister in law for example said while I was there picking Lewis up,that he doesnt seem to listen.. She was asking him not to jump on her by using long sentences and going on and on and on,her voice becoming raised, and using her hands to push him down, with Lewis becoming increasingly excited thinking she was enjoying this.. This went on for a minute or two, until I walked near him, and said "DOWN!".. He sat ,and waited for the next direction.

This is just an example.. You see it all the time, people on the streets with NO control at all. I myself have a LOT to learn, but after watching some people without the SLIGHTEST clue,it really is quite alarming!

Wow,I rambled didnt I.. lol!

  12. Someone mentioned a few pages back that dogs should be listed as cross breds..

I was wondering if this is actually possible. I always thought you had to list what you believe the dog to be..??

Does anyone know if you can actually chip your dog and register it as simply "cross breed"..?

Yes you can. We do it all the time at our clinic. Followed by a description, ie: colour, size, etc.

The NSW gov't push for a breed name but stuff 'em. No particular breed, no breed written down.

I really think this should be done... I had never thought it possible and always write down what i believe the cross to be

  13. Ive seen it in pups quite a bit.. There has never been anything to worry about in my cases.

How close have you looked at the stool? Gross i know, but pups have a habit of eating things they are not supposed to. I have noted that the body will try to cover odd items with mucus, perhaps to help the "delivery".

  14. My Cavie was recently diagnosed with dry eye and our vet gave us a tube of ointment called "Lacri-Lube" it can be bought over the counter at the chemist. Works brilliantly as he was also battling eye ulcer and thats all but cleared up as well. We just put the ointment in twice a day and he's fine.

Thats good news for your dog,and hopeful news for Tilly.

    Thanks
