  1. Sorry if you have all been asked this question a million times, but im desperate! I am finding myself getting increasingly frustrated and angry whilst walking my 8 month old staffy x- she is always totally distracted and hellbent on pulling pulling pulling! Too much of a social butterfly. obviously training her to walk nicely at heel is not an overnight process but my arms can take no more and i need that extra bit of control. How i would love to be able to enjoy walking her!! And be able to keep up with my 3 and 4 year old girls when we do go walking!!! (you know the drill- walk 2 steps- she pulls- i stop- start again- ad infinitum) So can anyone help me to work out the pros and cons of the various collars and halters? ive heard of the halti collar and the sporn halter- what do you think of these? and can you recommend anything else? Much appreciated, Dee
  2. if you are worried wedge it into a treat ball- i have an everlast ball- and then they have to work hard at it and cant gulp it all at once. I satrted giving my 8m staffy x frozen ones so it takes 30 seconds now rather than 5!!
  3. i have a medium sized 8 month staffy x kelpie and had two different answers when she was 6 months old: dog trainer said restrict running til one as her bones are still growing and the vet said this was nonsense as she is a muscular and strong boned dog. i chose to listen to the vet. I honestly cant imagine how i would stop my dog running anyway. she is the fastest in the dog park and hard to tire out when jogging with me. no signs of damage so far, however im sure id probably be more nervous if she were more of a fine boned kind of dog like say a whippet.
  4. OH god, i had no idea- ive given my staffy x a couple of them recently and i have one in the freezer. going straight into the bin now. She didnt much like them anyway. Much prefers shanks and split femurs!!! Split femurs are THE BEST!!! they are huge and last for days despite the good ol staffy chew. Ha ha, just imagined your chihuahua chewing one!! Personally i havent found chicken bones to be much of a prob - i give them to her frozen so it takes her a little more chewing. (incidently my dog trainer wasnt happy about them being frozen- does anyone else think this is a problem?)
  5. Went to vet yesterday- its a hot spot and has already started to heal on its own. Phew, did too much googling on mange! thanks guys, Dee
  6. Hi, my 7 mo staffy x pup has developed a raised scaly dry spot about the size of a 10c piece on the outside of her leg. Ive been brushing her but she hasnt had a bath for sometime since she has had stitches (on her tail-long story!). Ive heard that staffys are prone to skin problems- can anyone give me advice on how to treat this and prevent it happening again? i was thinking of getting some fish oil. Ta, Dee
  7. Hi, need help in finding an obedience class for me and my largely untrained staffy cross pup. i live in the inner east of sydney and cant seem to find one nearby that runs on a day other than sunday (cant do sundays- hubby works and ive got two toddlers) and isnt for puppies under 18 weeks (missed that boat since we adopted her at 24 weeks!). ive been trying to train her myself - with the help of a dog trainer home visit- but really think classes would be a big help (her recall is VERY sketchy, and she tends to run up to strangers walking by- NOT good). Thanks, Dee (btw this is my first post!!!)java script:emoticon('',%20'smid_11')
