  1. Thankyou SBT123 I shouldnt have written that about people bagging me out. I just get worked up when I feel people are trying to put me down. I am also finding it hard to fit in with the show scene. I personally Havnt been told about the black nose thing at all. All the breeders and vets I have talked to have referred to it as a black nose so I also have done the same thing. I really do want to do the best for this breed as I love them to bits but I also see alot of dogs winning in the ring that I think look amazing but are not nessesary practical. Their legs and noses seem to be getting shorter and when mixed with the high energy of a staffords mind I think can sometimes cause problems such as exaustion. I also compete in agility and there are not alot of staffies out there. The ones who are out there can find it hard to clear jumps and get tired and heat exaustion. All Im trying to say is that, are the breeders who show really trying to make the dog the best it can be or are they trying to have the best looking dog? I know I have opened a whole new can of worms here but after watching that show about english dog breeders and showers and what they have done to some of the breeds it scares me. I really hope that in Australia we are smarter then that and truely breed these dogs to the best they can be and not the best they can look.
  2. I didn't really come on this forum to argue the colour blue. They are beautiful and I know now that alot of people obviously have problems with them. Why? As I said before, this colour is stated in the standard and sorry to get people worked up about the black nose thing. I also have a black brindal girl and when they are next to each other their noses are pretty similar in colour. All I wanted to know was how best to groom him for a show as I am new and when I say new I mean I have been in two shows! People always ask me why I want to show dogs and I tell them it's because I love being out and about with my dogs and doing activities with them. I don't need and didn't ask people to comment on Austins colour. I am however interested in what you have to say about his conformation. Thankyou to everyone who gave me the info I needed but everyone else can keep their thoughts about blue staffords to them selves. I prefer not to listen to people who are going to bag me out. I am trying to learn and it's people like you that discourage alot of newcomers.
  3. another good blue bitch is trylou lil pearla she is awsome
  4. Hi Clyde he has a profile on dogzonline. His name is Divineblue ain't it the life. Hope you like him. Over the past 2 weeks or so I have noticed he is just starting to bulk up a little so I will have to add some more photos as these were taken about a month ago.
  5. I know they dont do any well but Blue is in the standard and it would be nice if people stopped just breeding them for colour for the money . I think when bred properly they are a stunning dog. I go to obediance every wednesday night with mine and there is another blue with clear nails a pale nose and blue eyes. He also has a very wishy washy coat. This dog cost those people the same as my beautiful deep coloured well bred blue. Its such a shame that the well bred ones dont seem to get noticed in the ring and being a newy I have noticed that there tends to be "trends" in colour in the ring at times. Oh well as I said Im just starting out so maybe I have no idea. I just love being out and about with my staffies and if we get a ribbon thats a bonus. My elder girl has done amazingly at agility and Austin (my Blue) looks to follow in her foot steps so we will just continue the way we have been going and have lots of fun at the same time!
  6. Thanks everyone, so I guess I'm doing all the right things already. How easy! Xx
  7. Hi There, I have just bought my first show dog ( staffordshire bullterrier)and have started showing in the local area. I was just wondering if there are any specific things I should be doing to my boy before a show? I have a few questions. He is a deep solid blue but as he is getting older I have noticed the ends of each strand of hair are fading to a sort of silvery chocolate (it looks as though each hair has become dry and worn at the ends)Is this old hair? Should I be using a stripping comb? Also I have been using pink shampoo is this correct? and is there any other tricks you recommend? Thanks for the support. I find it hard to walk up to other stafford breeders at the show because I dont want to sound like Im stealing there secrets and then beating their dogs. I also have 3 yr old female that is black brindal and white but she always looks shiny and beautiful.
  8. Thats a start. Thanks. I feed him science diet puppy dry food and 2 chicken necks on top. Once a week I replace the chicken necks with sardines in the hope that the fish oil will help his skin and coat.
