Hi, I have just started tracking and need to get a harness can anyone suggest a good one ? Thanks

yet again i am sorry i posted i really should know better by now but i just want defuse the rants by adding Yes agreed some clubs are run by volunteers and dont have behaviourists but the club i go to has a behaviourist and has paid staff so its not all. Agreed nobody can give 100 % correct advice without seeing the dog and you really need to see a good behaviourist before trying anything else yourself.

Good Luck it will seem like a lot of hard work now but it will be rewarded a million fold when you have a peaceful home and happy relaxed dogs

I am totally with you Kavik as i am doing the same and seeing the same good results as you. When i see another dog coming i give us some space get my dogs attention and start playing the you get a click and a treat for looking at the other dog and no attention at all for grumping at it. (its kinda like free shaping) I have tried powering past before even running past but it doesnt teach him anything and he still manages to get a grump in as we pass. I sometimes sit on a bench (slightly away from the path) and let the other dogs parade past and play the click game this works really well but off lead dogs can be a problem and yes I have shouted at a few stupid owners in the past as well. Keep up the good work

I know with my boy the behaviours i have free shaped are stronger and tend to be in his repertoire of offered behaviours along with the ones i am most excited and i guess smiley about. If i taught a sit stay i am sure i wouldnt be very excited but if my dog stood up on his hind legs for a few seconds (i really need to try that one) or walked backwards for the first time i would be over the moon and he would definately know about it. I think some dogs like doing somethings better than others (they are all bred for different things) and some things stick in a dogs head better than others but it might be the mixture of treats and smiley happy praise that really motivates them

I use a dog roll called Tucker Time is preservative free and is made with human grade meats and can be used as a complete diet (they also do a kibble) i find if i slice it up then cook it in the oven for twenty minutes it seals the edges so when i chop it into little bits it doesnt turn to mush in my treat bag the cooking also makes it smell great. When i am going to throw treats i just chop them slightly bigger.

yes i agree Aidan2, I connect my lead to the harness and to a flat collar at the same time i dont have a double lead but it still works really well (I use a sense-ible harness). The other good thing about front connection harnesses is that the dog accepts them straight away unlike some of the head collars where you need to get the dog used to them for a while. Do any of your local training clubs do loose lead walking workshops ? I went on one a last year and it really helped.

Hi I fancy a bit of a change from grooming and was wandering if anyone knew of any animal related jobs going South of Adelaide. When i am not grooming i also instruct at my local dog school. If anyone hears of anything i would love to hear about it

Where are you in SA jazawayaya ?? The school i belong to has small classes (max 8 dogs). We run naughty but nice classes for dogs with poor social skills and also do one on one behavioural lessons. Hi I am an instrustor at School for dogs (Its on Cox Rd in Silver Sands) We have our own dances with dogs group called Hip Hop Hounds with classes on Tuesdays nights. Its such a shame you just missed out on a dancing workshop we had Anne Bulke over from Queensland (she is a dwd judge). For those of you who are interested School for Dogs South Australia (in Sellicks Beach) is holding a Dancing with Dogs Workshop on Sunday 2nd May. Thanks everyone for your comments (i know this topic has been covered before) I am more interested in doing the NDFT course now i think as i want to understand all four quadrants not just the positive ones and would like to have a recognised qualification. I am a bit concerned about spending so much time in Melbourne or Sydney as I live in Adelaide but will have to cross that bridge when i come to it. Thanks again
