  1. Its a bugger you were so cramped poocow, I was on the first day and I took my basenj and sheltie upstairs to sit with friends with big breeds and there was rows of benches empty or half empty.

There were plenty of downsides to the day - it was a Brisbane Royal that tested even seasoned EKKA exhibitors. So if you are yet to show, be prepared for rude officials*, terrible organisation*, breeds breaking in the middle of judging, no BOB photos and crowds like I have not seen before at the EKKA. We got told off so many times I have lost count (and we are both quiet, considerate exhibitors I think).

So .... who else will be at General Specials day?

    * there were some lovely officials and not all the organisation was terrible of course :). One huge plus was the plush puppy grooming area.

I never came across any rude officials at all, there was a couple that had to really push the point that the exhibitor needed to be ready NOW, but it was only necessary.

The breakng in the middle of the breed comes down to a they have a schedule to stick to as to when lunch is, so they have to stick to it.

The crowds well that cant be controlled but can be viewed upon by saying take it as a positive, that the general Joe Public is nterested in purebreds not cross bred "oodles" or similar.

Congrats on your Ekka results :)

    no BOB photos

Lots of people have had their BOB photos taken?

I entered Ekka but didn't show as my Puppy bitch has just come out of season, so I've had a couple of relaxing days just observing from the grandstands :) I have been really surprised by the poor entries in some breeds though.

    Hi Miss B

On Havanese day I asked about getting BOB photos but the photographer didn't seem in a good mood and he said he was going home early and had run out of battery power anyway. He also spent AGES on each dog, so I would not have got in anyway (up to 20 mins per dog). I know he did quite a few private sittings though, and his signs clearly state that he is available for private sittings during the EKKA. Maybe the photographers need to be asked to prioritise BOB photos over private sittings?

    WHY?

The photographer is there as basically a favour to exhibitors. He doesnt get paid by the RNA or DQ to be there. He has to take time off of his paid job to be at the ekka for all 10 days and this year parking will cost him $250.

So basically any photos he takes that he can sell is what s going to cover costs for him.

Because they are supposed to be there to take BOB and group and GS win photos. Otherwise they would be paying a huge fee for a commercial site at the EKKA.

ETA if they are not going to take the BOB photos, and it is such a 'hardship', why are they there at all?

So your complaining that you couldnt get your BOB pic done as there were others getting general pics done and then ask why are they there at all? So what is your suggestion for there to be no photographer at all?

If the Ekka is such a terrible experience for you then why come??

  2. Another vote for a shetland sheepdog here, they are a great kids dog and are also in the same area as gundogs at Durack.

Take it from someone that is stupd enough to do it at Durack dont get a 2nd breed in a group that is away from the area gundogs are in!

I have a basenji (group 4) and a sheltie (group 5) and I spend the whole day running from 1 ring to the next.

It is absolutely crazy and I find I dont enjoy the day as much.

  4. I have let DQ know about the stuff up, so they might be able to atleast sort out the stewards catalogues etc.

But its the RNA that done the catalogue and as anyone that has tried to speak to them knows it takes forever for them to get back to you after leaving a message.

  5. If anyone else wants it just send a pm.

Keep in mind there is HEAPS of mistakes in it.

Half the Affenpinschers arent even Affens.

    There's 1 corgi, 1 samoyed, 1 Mareema, 1 staffy, 2 pointers and 2 Iggys entered as affens.

  6. Maybe..

To email the file the person will need something like a yahoo account which has unlimited file download :) it is a huge file and most emails like bigpong or optus wont be able to receive it.

Thanks for that KR, explains why I can email it to some but not others.

  7. Talking to a friend tonight that hasnt done the ekka for a few years and she asked me if I knew what dogs have to go back for group day I have not much of a clue so I figured someone on here would know.

So what has to go back?

    My guess would be:

    Best of Breed

    Reserve of breed??

    Baby of Breed??

    Puppy of breed??

    Bump

    Hoping someone knows.

  8. No I dont believe that it has passed away, and they were trying to figure out if they should PTS or study it more.

I think they should study it more, and try and figure out how it got Hendra. They were questiong wether it was definately Hendra or not as it was very low levels of the virus.

  10. A friend is looking at buying an Alaskan Malamute from Sandown kennels - Faith Dykstra. Can anyone that knows of this kennel/person, please inbox me good and bad. This way I can tell friend wether or not to go to this kennel.

Also can anyone tell me if this is a registered breeder?

    TIA

  11. Yes I cant understand what makes people think they can steal things from others.

At Murwillumbah on the weekend someones sick daughters Ipod was stolen from there tent while the daughter was asleep.

A few weeks ago at another show 2 people set up next to each other had an Iphone taken and a wallet taken from there ring side gazebo's.

There was a threat to go to the police put around the show, and the next day the phone and wallet was returned to there camping tents (not the same place from where it was taken from). The phone had over $200 worth of calls made (before the phone was locked) and the wallet was minus the money (over $100)

  12. I have 2 compacts and they are FANTASTIC!!

The shows on the weekend at night was super super windy and mine both with stood it no problem.

That isnt the first shows they have suffered high wind conditions, and I have no problem!

Now if I can get a 3m one that folds down to the size of a compact I would be very happy.

  13. I have a rare breed as well. She got almost to champion status without beating another dog because there wasn't one entered! She won more than her fair share of classes in group but under your criteria she should not have champion status. In the end, we purchased another one of the same breed because they would at least compete against each other. Plenty of good judges including international judges, tell me that they are good examples of the breed so why shouldn't they earn their champions????

You have your GSD becase you like the breed. I have my rare one because I prefer them. I have been here a couple of years now and really get offended the way some of the been around for years, bred heaps of champions In a popular breed, look down on those of us who don't fit your narrow view of the dog showing world. At least we are out there, showing and trying to maintain the rare breeds we love. If my reward for keeping a rare breed In existence for a while longer with my petrol, no competition champion is a 'cheap' title then I figure I deserve it.

I just want to say Bravo!!!!
