  1. I was told that it is a good idea to fast my dogs once a week, is this true? for what benefits?
  2. Can Revolution help preventing the bites from flies and mozzies?
  3. Most pure dog breeds carry some or other health problems not just Cavaliers. The cross bred dogs seem to carry more probs, they can get the worst of both breeds they are crossed with. Do you know a lot about Cavs percyk? Because I have a few questions about mine that I need to ask someone who has good knowledge of the breed. Nope... I strongly disagree with this. One of each sex is best. As I posted to the OP. Males compete with males. Females compete with females. Males will allow a female to be alpha but they may fight another male for the top spot. Same with female/female. I note you have suggested a number of breeds but the recipient of the 'present' must be the person to choose a breed he really wants. He may have a heart breed he's always wanted to own. I have two breeds I love dearly. I would be pretty upset if someone gave me a dog as an unexpected present in the first place. I would be hopping made if someone gave me a breed of their own choice without consulting me. I don't want be responsible for a breed I have never wanted in my life and still don't. an off topic question: Is it true that male dogs do not fight with females? sometimes my boy bites my girl quite hard and she yells "argh...."
  4. yes they are sedatives....so they are bad for dogs?
  5. thanks guys, Momo (the car sick dog) did very well on Sunday (a 2 hrs trip) and he didn't throw up at all.... (after 1 week's practice) I didn't give him anything to eat and "forced" him to have a bit of ginger tablet. I played with him for 30 mins before getting him into the car, and then played with him again for 15 mins before driving. he was tired and then I started the engine and opened all windows. Put some peppermint oil in the car. and didn't allow him to look outside through the side windows. i got some medicine from the vet (tiny yellow tablets...not sure what that is) just in case he is not well...but he did great throughout the trip. He slept most of the time in the car which made things very easy. Anyway, thank you for all your advices!!!!
  6. but how to keep him looking forward??? should I cover the side windows?? but i need to do head check when i drive....how? i am thinking to try the combination of all methods....see what works better.
  7. what is junket tablet?.....will try to find that today. thx How to get Maxalon without the prescription? You can't. I'd not suggest going to a bulk-billing GP and asking for it for you for travel sickness . You might say that you've taken it before with no problems. You still need to know the proper dose for your dog, however. All medications can have side effects. Remember most human meds are designed for an 80kg male human. 1 Maxolon tablet = 10mg. very true...i prefer not to use any medicine for this... i'm thinking to put him on a bean bag at the back seat to avoid the vibration...what do you think? In that way, he can seat up high like Mita said.
  8. what is junket tablet?.....will try to find that today. thx How to get Maxalon without the prescription?
  9. i didn't feed him last night but he still threw up in the car. I just called the vet and she said she usually gives some medicine to this kind of problem but given my dog is still a puppy, she recommended an alternative method and asked us to bring the dog to her for a check. But i don't think I have time to go to the vet before Sat...so hope to get some suggestions from the DOLers. Thanks
  10. My mini poodle (6 mths old) throws up in the car after 10 minutes drive. I tried ginger tablets, peppermint oil, windows opening, crating and story telling, but all are not working. I went to the pharmacy today to ask for Maxalon but they said it is a prescribed medicine so didn't allow me to get it. Any other advices? I am planning a trip from my place to Frankston (around 1.5 hrs trip) this Sunday (to the Pet Day) and really hope to bring him too....pls help
  11. the vet didn't do the xray, she just touched and checked the legs and gave them some pressure but my pup was not worrying/crying at all. so the vet told me to bring her home first and if it goes worse, then she will do a xray for her. i am going to crate her for a few days first and if the situation doesn't change, I will ask for the xray then. Thanks. So how much is the xray? $200?
  12. but aussiepet's advocate is $6 cheaper (6 packs) then petproductsontheweb? and they charge nil if you purchase over $200...
  13. i stepped on my little pup's leg last night by accident and heard a sound like "ka"...and she was holding her front leg and yelling....i brought her to the vet immediately but she was walking fine (as normal) at there and the vet checked her bones and found no problem with it...The vet said she may be hurt but not that serious and she will be fine soon given she is still a puppy (3.5 months old) However, when she played with my another pup this morning, she yelled and held her leg after a play fight....and then she went back into the dog house for a couple of minutes then came out again by holding one leg up. then she played, walked and peed again as normal...maybe with a slower pace. So what should i do at this stage to protect her injuried leg? the vet didn't give me any medicine or do anything on her leg...does it mean she will recover herself? I feel guilty and couldn't sleep last night....always remember that "ka"....... or should i feed her any special food for recovery???
  14. my vet suggested me to use advocate/revolution + drontal for prevention. aussiepet.com.au is selling them the cheapest....
