    (I think maybe the above ones are more side-lighting? though they have that backlit washed-out colours on the top left corners? thanks to the sun hitting the lens)

    :laugh: geez experts a bit over the top!

    I think all yours look great!

    Lotus joins with Scratchee the Reindeer Flea to write up her Christmas list :D

    ~~~~
    Nawww that ones georgous, how did you get the santa hat to stay on? I dont like my chances with my lab she would get it off her head and run off with it :laugh:
    she's very good at being still, plus there were treats, plus the hat did fall off multiple times, but she really wanted to run off with Scratchee!
    they ended up having a disagreement about the list, Scratchee wanted to add at least 1 Scratchette to the list, Lotus wanted more tennis balls :laugh:
  3. Frodo's Mum - Nice birdie's - though there's a little too much information with some stop action 'eh? :laugh: I can't help thinking about it too when I see a bird atm lol
    love the Frenchies when they play, such classic fun! especially loving 2 & 3 of your last post :D
    PossomCorner - the corellas in a nice flying triangle for you, great timing and framing :)
    snook - I really love that 2nd one of Justice!
    ~~~

    Saxon got a brief play with this little staffy girl at the beach earlier this week :)

    this first image shows how far she'd run to say hello to him (the white figure in the background is her owner) :D

    cheers :D

  4. kittikat - oh my those Frenchie butts are the best :love:

    Frodo's Mum - love the balancing act, and those ripples on the side of Ruby as she jumps are cool :)

    DD - great action at the agility, tough environment! love the jumps!

    kirislin - excellent, I get a few more weekends off 2013 than I have in previous years, but yeh, at least until half way I have most Saturdays locked-up for Saxon training, so Sundays will be good! I should be able to make it at least some time :)

    really like the take-off shot, Reggie (in the foreground yeh?) looks so cute and very intent :D

  5. tlc - very cool! love all that fur and those ears flying :D

    5th one down with Cooper in the kangaroo run is my fav

    re: panning again, I've re-thought what I was saying earlier, think it depends on more than just the shutter speed, the dog speed and distance has to play a part, so it's gonna be different depending on the circumstances, I think I've just found that 1/60 works best for most of my circumstances :)

    ~~~~
    after all that running around, let Lotus catch her breathe, and decided to try a slow shutter on her fast panting, just for something different :D
  6. thanks guys!
    snook - wow, I'm flattered by your comments, thanks :D I think you're selling yourself short though, those ones of Justice are great! Lotus and Chester are pretty predictable to me, and they've slowed up heaps so that's got have something to do with it. One tip I had for those running towards you shots was to focus on their nose rather than their eyes (which is what I would normally do) or foreheads, makes a difference at those wider-open apertures, if you have the right speed the dog should run his/her eyes into focus if that makes sense?
    tlc - red Center has a lot of character :laugh:
    frodo'smum - hilarious expression caught :rofl:
    kirislin - I'd really like to come, pity it's Saturday, Saxon needs to attend obedience training, we miss out on too many pre-paid days as it is, I was thinking I could make it too, then remembered, look forward to seeing some results here, yours are always impressive :)
    been trying something a little different at the park for the past few days with Lotus, basically I've been faking her on a long throw with the ball, but throwing it high and short so she would be running more towards the camera as she's going for the ball, instead of the usual shots of her catching while running away or her returning with the ball, of which I have thousands ... one good thing is that it's a lot less frame-intensive but Lotus is over the new game already, has learnt to stop short, I'll have to give her a rest for a day or so ... here's 1 afternoons' worth of effort :D
    I like this one best! great catch on Lotus' part too :D
    8178210260_6321322eb7_z.jpg
    close-up you can see her eyes are on the ball
    some Saxon at the park action, sorry, haven't gotten to those 1/20 panning shots yet, this is from a different day/time
    8178180667_97b59477e6_z.jpg
    yeh, he leaps pretty good for a big puppy, so intense for chasing after the ball, really want a better angle for this though, and he does get higher and crazier just a little unpredictable for me atm.
    8178180895_fdecd203f3_z.jpg
    an early morning attempt at panning, still can't get his face in focus rather than his body, just have to keep trying
    8178211870_4dbd172666_z.jpg
    cheers :D
  7. loving the Frenchie action!
    nice one of Justice at the beach, great light :D
    the skating-boarding tricks look good! I've thought of going to the skate park near me to practise action shots.
    lol Bruce is classic!
    ~~~~

    Saxon at the beach (anywhere he can go off-lead really) makes for fun action :D

    kittikat (or anyone wanting to try out panning) a shutter speed of less than 1/60 really doesn't do so well. I was practising a little with Saxon this evening and I went down to a shutter speed of 1/20 just due to the lack of available light more than anything and his front legs turned into an invisble wheel, almost indecipherable from the background ... I'll post it up when I get it off the camera, the others I have fantastic focus on his body, but all blur on his face, will keep practising, he is just a lunatic for the ball so I'm sure he won't mind, he gets some good air too so will work for stop-action too when I get a chance :D

  8. lol @ Justice's "puppy-crack" face

    ~~~
    okay, a couple of running at me shots of the dogs to start me off, taken the first few days this month, may need to employ a helper for something different :) ... and I wouldn't mind giving the panning/blur another go ...
  9. Super Izzy! what a great flying Frenchie shot :D
    ooo Chester is handsome red border collie? I like all the flying water shots :)
    Thank you, yes he is a red BC, very handsome.
    Isn't Lola pretty too? She is a mutt LOL. Cocker spaniel cross mini foxie, so they told us.
    yes :D Lola is pretty, they make a good looking couple! I only caught Chester because that's my boys' name too :)
  10. tlc - check the weight difference on the Sigma f/1.4 against the Canon f/1.8 I was surprised by how chunky the Sigma is, still it is much more practical for my purposes than the 70-200, which in effect only gets out to the beach, and the very occasional special trip.
    missed your question re: people, answer = no, people portraits are non-existent in my files ;)
    I am impressed I can get those head-on running at me shots, admittedly Lotus and Chester aren't really very fast like some dogs and I've spent a lot of time practising knowing their moves, Saxon has his unexpected mad moments which I've mostly missed so far.
    I've recently noticed that mine struggles to get those long distant focus right. Like Saxon portraits 'specially it can't catch his dark eyes, even though I'm aiming for the contrasty-light in his eyes, it's too small a target at a distance to find focus I guess?
    I have some more images to show, but I can't seem to get myself organised, it took like 2 days to get this reply up :eek:
