  1. What about woofpurnay? I don't know if they have their own machine, but given the size of the practice they'd be worth a try. Otherwise Monash vet you can drop it to the lab yourself and get results pretty quick (well you could when I went there a while ago).
  2. If she's not taking notice of advice she paid for (assuming she did, if not probably why she won't listen to what the behaviourist told her), she won't listen to anyone else. Funny how people only value advice when they pay for it.
  3. With the GSDs I've found they get an almost woolly coat when desexed. Being months past a season is not uncommon after rehoming though. I know of bitches who have gone from being 4 monthly to having a 12 month break, purely from change of environment.
  4. He probably looks bigger cos he's fluffier too oakeydoak1. He's about 4kg at the moment (well was 3.5kg last Thurs when I wormed him). He is enjoying his meals now too the piggy. Now if only I could find someone with a litter similar age in Victoria for him to play with and learn some important doggy lessons. Don't have any specific origins for the name. I have a list of names for his registered name (which I want to play on either singleton or money theme), just trying to narrow down a call name. So far I have; Anzac Atlas Angus Cash (not A, but as All Cashed up is one of the short listed names, it sorta fits).
  5. One of the private trainers was sort of what I was thinking of, but didn't know which of them ran/run puppy classes. I wasn't aware Erny was running puppy classes (although has been a looonnngg time since I spoke to her as I've lived up here for nearly 2 years). Don't know why I didn't think of Cosmolo.... Problem with Westernport I realised Murve, is that I often go the the shepherd club at the same time/day, and think 2 in one day would just be too close together for his little baby brain. I'm hoping to take him to both. I think I'll visit a few recommended ones, and see which one I'm happiest with.
  6. Here is my lil man. He's 4 1/2 weeks now. :D Still no name, would like to find a strong boy name, preferably (but not essential) one starting with A. Stacking practice
  7. My bitch had a singleton and was a maiden. The vet had me bring her in daily to ultrasound and check the pup's heart rate. When it started to get a little slower, we checked twice a day, and did a caesar on her due date. She wanted to make sure we went in at the right time, so the puppy was developed but not distressed by time of delivery. My girl showed no signs of labour, no nesting, etc, no temp drop despite stopping the progesterone supplement.
  8. Ok, thanks murve, will organise to meet up with you when he's a bit closer to the right age (and me to moving and knowing where I'll live). Do you guys run Westernport club? Or elsewhere? He's probably already bigger than your adult paps! I also have a male GSD, who is a very balanced, calm dog that I'd be happy to use to work with fearful dogs. He'll be great with the pup too, but I think he might let him get away with a little too much.
  9. I have mum, and he's still in with her (and she'll play with him and discipline him), but as he's a singleton, no litter mates unfortunately. This is the main reason I would like someone who knows what they're talking about with dog behaviour and body language, as it needs to be a positive and educational experience for him. Actually, it would be great to find people with balanced, not over the top dogs for him to interact and play with as well. I'd like to try and make up for what he's missing not having litter mates as much as possible. If only I knew someone with a litter similar age that he could go and visit to learn some doggy things from..... ETA- I have had somewhere in Ferntree Gulley recommended by my bitche's breeder, as well as one down in Geelong. I'm happy to drive if I need to, but the closer the better obviously.
  10. I have a singleton puppy who is now 4 weeks old. ETA- I'm obviously looking for when he's older and can go out to puppy school. I am hoping to find a decent puppy school, where the instructors have good knowledge of dog behaviour. Given he's not getting the socialisation of litter mates, I need somewhere pretty special to help me teach him these doggy manners he could miss out on. His mum is doing a brilliant job, but I'd love him to get a bit of healthy interaction with other dogs his own size/age. I live in Bendigo, but will be moving to the other side of Melbourne around when he's old enough (not sure where yet, still looking at properties, but likely Gembrook or Seville areas), so am willing to travel for the right place.
  11. Did they find a bitch? Such a pity they're not in Victoria....
  12. All within pretty close walking distance, but might depend on how much luggage you have, and how easy it is to take it that far.
  13. Ah yes MM, bit yours will weigh more than 7Kg when he's grown up Yes that's a very good point! He'll probably be over 7kg by 8 weeks of age at this rate. When do other puppies normally start walking, etc? My boy is 3 weeks Thursday and has had eyes open for a week, ears open about 2 days, and is wobbily walking his way around the box. I think he'll be walking confidentally in the next couple of days, so just before 3 weeks.
  14. Gee they look so much bigger than that! My lil guy is over 2kg now, so looks like he's the fatty!
  15. What about if you just get the bitch for now and build up your contacts by showing her before looking into a male? If the male you like turns out to be suitable as a stud dog once mature, you should be able to get semen from him sent over to you once your bitch is ready.
  16. So why are you looking at importing a dog and bitch as opposed to getting them here? Are you looking at importing them as youngsters before they have passed health checks? If so, this is a huge risk, and you could well end up with 2 very expensive pets! What appeals to you about this particular dog and bitch you're looking at? Perhaps you would be better of, at this stage, getting another locallly (as in Australia or NZ) bred bitch of show quality to show, and later on breed. This would help you to establish more contacts within the breed, and you may well find someone down the track who is after this sort of arrangement (and I think you'll find the majority of reputable breeders willing to do so would only consider it if they knew the other owner quite well). To me it sounds like what you are considering doing requires a lot more contacts within the dog, and more specifically, rottweiler world than you currently have. And if you want to be able to post in the breeders forum, you need a prefix and to pm Luke with it so he can make it possible for you to do so.
  17. MissyMoo, that's fantastic news about the puppy! It sounds like these people were just meant to have this puppy! :D Ophnbark, they are rather, um fatties! Not that I can talk with my lil chubby boy! The vet said yesterday to put him on carpet for exercise. Ummm, I already am! Not to mention taking him off the teet to make him walk from the other side of the box back to it a couple of times a day at least. Poor lil guy is teething though, and wants to chew everything. If you give him your fingers he chews on them and you can feel those nice big molars on their way down. Poor lil boy! And poor mum having to deal with them once they come down!
  18. That's what I was thinking. Most of the decent breeders I know have paid for the flight and purchase price just to get the pup back and in a more suitable home.
  19. That's one reason I'm scared to breed my rotty bitch, she comes from lines of bitches who have double digit litters! So think you'll be getting that x-ray??
  20. He was actually licking his leg in the pic of him on his back. I just missed him by seconds him with his legs all spread out like a typical boy on his back! It's funny if I put his mouth anywhere near my face he likes to try and grab my nose and suck, tis pretty dam cute (especially as he doesn't have teeth yet)! :D
  21. Without re-reading the last 7 pages, what was the response to a smooth collie? Wouldn't they come in a variety of drive levels, they're public friendly (in appearance) and would have no trouble working in the heat. ETA- They might not have the edge you're after though..... Has the malinois been suggested? I've seen a male who was easily 40kg plus, and was used by a professional trainer to work with dog agressive dogs (which he was briliiant at and somehow just knew when to back off and when to tell another dog off for being stupid). He had a bit of drive, and a beautiful worker with a sensible brain. Lovely dog, and if I could be guaranteed to find one like him I'd consider the breed down the track.
  22. He's gorgeous Sharon! Such a little man now! :D My little boy opened his eyes a couple of nights ago, but I don't think he can see much as yet. He got wormed today (2 weeks old today), and my goodness did he act like someone had poisoned him! Here are some pics of him. 1 week old Bad pic, but today with eyes open
  23. Oop, wrong thread (teach me to have 2 tabs open at once! ) . Congratulations to all of those expecting litters! :D
