  1. Holly is 3-4 months of age, I only got her last week and have no idea of what worming etc she had before i got her as she is a pound puppy. The vet gave her vaccinations and a intercept worming tablet. She still seems to be hungry all the time. I give her a cup of biscuits morning, lunch and dinner plus she has 1/2 cup of yoghurt a day as she is on antibotics. I am not sure if I should re-worm her or if the intercept would have taken care of them if she had any. Previously I have given dogs dromtol for worms. Please let me know what you think?
  2. Cosmolo - Thanks for you advice. My puppy and me appreciate it.
  3. Glad to see that I am not the only one who purchased a sick, flea infested dog. We lost our last dog a couple of weeks ago to a snake bite. I was determined that I was going to reasearch the breeds and ensure that I got a breed that suited our lifestyle and the kids. We where all missing our last dog so much especially my four year old that I decided that I had to get another puppy asap. I checked out the local pet stores and then I went to the pound and found a courgious female rottyxmastif cross that was to be put down, so I brought her and took her to the vet. Underweight, timid, more than likely not a rottyxmastif cross she has cattle markings when looking closer and big floppy ears! Oh and she is coughing so she is now on antibotics. Even though we have had some surprises with her I am very glad that we got her and didn't leave her to be put down. But now the hard work is begining.
  4. This may seem like a silly question, but why is important to feed dogs raw meat? I have always been worried about the dog then decided to chase other animals ie chickens, cats etc. I always feed my last dog commercial dog food, which I have been advised not to use and to start making her dinner from scratch. Is this only important for show dogs (improve presentation) or is it for health reasons in general?
  5. Closest large location with puppy preschool Mackay Qld. My dog is very timid - adopted pound puppy
  6. She is jumping all over us, just begging for attention. At this stage 3-4 months how do I go about teaching her that this is not okay without scaring her more. Previously at dog obiendence with another dog I was told to gently put my knee up. But given the timid nature of this dog I am not wanting to freak her out.
  7. As soon as I put a lead on her, she drops to the ground, I have started using food rewards held in front of her to get her to take a few steps. We are trying to get her to play more, but she spends most of her time on her dog bed, not sure if that is normal or not ? it has been a long time since I have had a puppy.
  8. Live in the Mackay area. Puppy is 3-4 months of age, but that is an educated guess by the vet which I have taken her to.
  9. I have recently gotten a puppy, first one in eight years. Can you please tell me what happens at puppy presechool? At the moment I am having to carry my dog into the vets as I havn't been able to get her to walk on a leash. I think puppies are like babies, each time you have one, things seem to have changed.
  10. The pound told me when i adopted her that she was from a litter of dogs that had been very badly miss treated. She just loves to be close to our family. I am happy to put the time in to train her but I am at a loss as to where to really start considering it has been a long time since I have had a puppy and my last dog didn't have any issues to deal with.
  11. I recently adopted a pound puppy, I was warned before hand about some of the pitfalls of adopting a pound puppy but I went ahead anyway. I couldn't stand to see the puppy be put down. I am experiencing problems with this puppy that I am not sure how to deal with. She is very timid, almost afraid of her own shadow. She cringes when walking past her with an object in your hand. When put on a leash she drops to the ground. She jumps all over me, but I am not sure of how to deal with her because I don't want to reward her bad behaviour but at the same time I went to train her Any advice welcome?
