Oh Kyra, it is devastating when your babies get sick. Unfortunately you will not be able to get insurance now that he has the problem (we are the same with Louie) - I truly hope that it is only minor and can be treated and that he will be with you for a very long time yet.

As someone who works in a law firm short and sweet - straight to the point and in nice short paragraphs or dot points is excellent!!
-
It might be worth getting some legal advice - google 'Adelaide Community Legal Service' - they do forms of free advice - might be worth a shot.

I just got back from the shops with some chicken necks to feed to the puppies for the first time, went upstairs to use the bathroom, came back downstairs and OH had already fed half a neck each to the pups, and they swallowed them whole [note to self: never trust OH with these things again]
The OH had chopped one neck in half, gave one half to Enzo (7 months) and the other half he chopped the bone in half again (one side of the flesh still intact) and gave that to Mila (11 weeks). He said Enzo crunched on his a few times before swallowing, but Mila pretty much popped it in her mouth and swallowed, and it was gone!
They don't seem to be in any discomfort at all, running around being their normal mischievous selves, playing tug-of-war with a pig's ear right now in fact... Now, on a scale of 1-10, how worried should i be? Should i be calling the vets? The idea that a (half) chicken neck is sitting in their stomachs whole really worries me...
Honestly - I would not stress a lot, half a neck is not a lot. Louie gets three a day and only chews them two or three times each - he has never had a problem with it traveling from a to b. He has been getting t hem from about 5 months old so I dare say both the frenchies will be fine. If it was me - on a scale of 1 to 10 a 1 to 2 for worry...
-
yep completely normal - Louie gets them less and less now he is over 12 months old but he still gets them here and there.

I make tugtoys so all is good on that front- thought though as she is teething and learning her limits something hard would be good?
I am crate training her as well- an invaluable item crates!
My other dogs are crate trained too.
The puppy kongs are good - not too hard for sensitive baby teeth. You can get a few varieties, the classic puppy kong, biscuit balls and so on.
I noticed coles is carrying a few varieties of the puppy toys lately as is big w.

Louie had a similar reaction.
His poor brother on the other hand ended up with a golfball size lump on his neck - thats big for a baby pug!
-
Well Louie is in touch with his feminie side...
But the pink is for our new addition - Evie!
I would also like the price list please
-
If you have any of the ezy dog stuff in pink camo size s I would be interested

ETA: I have only ever had Louie on Eagle Pack with a semi-raw diet (necks, offal etc) he seems to do well on that so thats what lil miss will probably be on eventually too.

Pug HuggerAh Jed - if I gave you my breeder's phone number could you talk some of your very reasonable and common sense into her please???
She'd probably swear at me, Pug Hugger!!
What's the problem with your pup, and what has the breeder offered?
I think all breeders should be made to read "The Water Babies", and particularly about Mrs. Do-As-You-Would-Be-Done-By. I have very few problems with the pups I breed, but when there is a problem, I wonder "what would I want?" and go from there.
And we registered breeders need to not only say we are better than puppy farmers, but to be better.
Let me find the link - far easier to read the threads I think!!! Breeder has offered zilch, nada, nothing. Granted my problem is not one that can be tested for but it would have been nice for her to offer something, even $100 to help with the vet bills would have helped (over $4000 on a 10 month old dog!) - what smarts with us is we are actually quite good friends with her - even some form of gesture would have been appreciated, does that make sense?

COmpletely different operation.
Louie had his right ear canal removed due to a dermoid sinus. He was only in hospital overnight but was on antibiotics for 6 weeks, pain killers for one week and we had 3 follow up appointments.
About the 5.5 week mark he got quite lethargic and twitchy, mostly due to repairing nerves. We are about 7 weeks after the operation now and he is more his normal self.

... am in SA so it is illegal to import a prong collar ...
Ummmm .... not against regulations to use one in SA to my knowledge??? However, it is wise to get some professional advice/help regardless of what you do - so that you can be sure what collar IS the most suitable (along with checking/coaching your lead handling skills as mentioned below).
... though i heard they are effective. They are effective, GSDh .... but ANY tool needs proper handling for it to be so and therefore, like others have suggested, you'd do well to seek professional help. I've worked with people who initially were thinking they needed to change their training equipment, when all it was, was how they were working the lead (ie lead handling skills).
... when she is pulling her obedience goes out the window (though it wont in puppy class )Highlights and italics are mine ....
How old is your dog, GSDh ???
the prong collar isnt illegal to use, but you cant get one. its like having your H6 and being allowed to carry and use a asp batton but not be allowed to own one.
shes 13 wks old.
will be seeking a trainer, as well as using Kaviks idea of "safe" desensitisation.
and as for your comment Erny, thats why i am trying to get a handle on the behavour now.
If you are looking for professional trainers who support the proper use of a prong collar my breeder's parents are meant to be very good. They are the D.O.G.S school in northern adelaide suburbs. I have not been there myself but have heard good things about them (not just from my breeder either )

I don't think the ticks are a huge problem - they were probably so tiny when the dog left the breeder, they were just about invisible. I'd forgive the breeder that one.
The coccidia wasn't a problem - and it is easily and cheaply fixed. And they did tell you when they found out.
Hernia? Hmm, did you know when you purchased the dog? Cost about $20 - $30 extra to repair at desexing, but you should have been told.
The HOD - sorry, I don't know much about this, but according to what settrlvr wrote, if the dog is a wei, you may have a problem. Also, if it can occur following vaccinations, it's not the breeder's problem.
the kidney problem. Is it hereditary? Or doesn't anyone know?
As far as the law goes, you are entitled to a new pup, or a refund, if the pup is "unsuitable for the purposes intended" or faulty. But, according to the law, you need to return the "good" (ie, pup) Check the website for the dept of fair trading in your state.
If I owned the pup, I'd begin with the offer of another pup the breeder made, and I would try to work within that. Talk to her about keeping the pup you have. Is her life likely to be shortened? What will she do with the pup if you hand it back? Will she give you another pup if this pup lives only a short time?
As a breeder, I would want full information, including vet reports, and I would want some input from my vet. If you lived close enough, I would want my vet to see the pup.
I would have told you about the hernia when you bought the pup. If the HOD is likely to be ongoing, and expensive, and the kidney problem is hereditary - I would probably give you a refund. As a gesture of goodwill. You could then use the $$ to help with the vet bills, because I wouldn't want to take the pup back. Or you could have another pup.
But I would want some dialogue with you. Unfortunately, pups are living things, and problems do occur, even though the breeder may have taken all precautions and care.
Ah Jed - if I gave you my breeder's phone number could you talk some of your very reasonable and common sense into her please???

"Is the new pup in addition to your current or as a replacement? IF she is in addition and you wanted a second dog I think that s a reasonable offer to make amends."
I think you will find the pup must be returned & a new pup supplied.
Whoops - I see my reading skills have not improved lately!
-
You poor thing - I know all about health problems in young pups. Louie is only 12 months old but has already cost me over $4,000 in specialist vet care. Like you and Molly's owner I could not contemplate replacing him.

Does anyone know how much chiro costs for dogs? Louie could do with some but I kind of want to know what I am up for before I get there.
