  1. MTS I think Missy's reluctance to move would stem from how tightly the coat is done up - you're restricted her shoulder movement a fair bit. If you walked her in it, I think it would rub her coat off on the shoulders. However, if you loosen it off, my guess is the neck will gape. They really aren't cut for Whippet shape.

I buy a lot of coats from This Sighthound Coat Maker on Ebay in the UK and have never had a dud. Even with the exchange rate and postage they are good value.

I think you've hit the nail on the head there Haredown. :)

I have one coat from the above mentioned on it's way. I've no doubt at all I'll be ordering more too. :o

  2. Looks like it's time to buy Missy a new coat mumtoshelley. This one doesn't cover her bum and thighs. Whilst it's better than nothing, I prefer the whole dog covered. :)

I don't think I want one that covers the bum,she wil end up pooing and probably peeing on it. Missy is mainly inside she is outside during the day if its sunny. The coat really only gets put on if its cold out when we go for walks or monday nights when we go to obedience, other then that Missy lays on our bed with a blanket on or infront of the heater.

    Each to their own.

I can guarantee though, a whippet bitch with a well fitted coat of that style, will not dirty it going to the toilet, be it 1's or 2's. Sure, if the coat was somehow fitted around the tail it would (if ever there is such a thing), but a normal dog coat won't interfer.

  3. Astro, I also have a couple of Weatherbeetas.

They're not a bad coat, but they're just "dog" shaped, not whippet shaped.

I love the whippetwear ones because they come right up to the ears, where as the weatherbeeta leaves the neck bare. Freezing where I live, so they need a nice high neck!

  4. I have 5 coats from Whippetwear and love them. Even my two males (one over the bridge now) who manage to pee on themselves in quite a few coats manage to stay pee free in their WW ones.

Do you mean when he cocks his leg he wees on the opposite flap/side that hangs down?

  5. but what about in the case that is in General at the moment? That dog looks like it is in fact a purebred dog.

Wouldn't it be helpful to have these threads so people who have adopted from the pound or rescue and have suspicions that there dog is purebred and want some help to work out whether it is or isn't?

And this is another reason why I think the micro-chip database should have a space for the Registered Breeders Prefix/Name and contact details.

    1) You will know it's a registered purebred pedigree dog

    2) Call the breeder if you can't contact the owner

    3) Let the breeder know it's been found to collect it if the owner can not be found

yep I love this idea

It does have space for the breeders details. CAR breeder forms ask for the "kennel name" and their contact details too.

The standard form Vets use does not.

There needs to be one form Australia Wide (and one database if you ask me).

CAR lists a few forms on the website, one that does have a space for breeders details, sadly this is not the one vets use.

Maybe not the vet you use, but where I work we certainly do use the forms that list the breeders name, prefix, and contact details. Both on the litter form and the breeder reassignment form.

  7. As a vet nurse I often get asked the question "which flea product do I use on my own dogs?"

When I reply with "I've never used any flea product on a dog of mine....EVER", clients are often very surprised. Guess they just assume we all treat our dogs with these products.

I tell them I've never seen a flea, or flea dirt on my dogs, and they don't scratch more than is normal, so I don't see the point in a) filling my dogs with harmful chemicals, and b) wasting money on a product I don't need. :)

  8. Why do people log in anonymously? I am not too sure what is to be gained. Are they lurking? I feel a bit spooked when I have just posted something and there at the bottom of the screen I see that 10 anonymous users are logged in.

I don't see that it matters either way? The option is offered, some people choose to use it.

Whether someone logs in as anonymous or not, they're still rather anonymous anyway, being just a user name to most others on DOL.

  9. I want to go but they won't accept titre tests and I refuse to give my dog vaccinations unless he needs them. It's quite sad, I went last year and we had quite a lot of fun :)

Did they ask for vacc certificates? I've never ever been asked if mine were vaccinated? Unless its on the entry form, I cant remember?

I've been to both Melbourne (Albert Park)and Ballarat (entering both online and on the day) and have never seen/heard mention of vaccinations either.
