  1. Hi, True Blue Meat Bits has been recomended to me. I have seen the label and it reads the following;

"All Natural" No artificial colours, flavours preservatives. ( I know "All Natural" is not as natural as raw etc)

Ingredients: Beef, Lamb, Tallow, Rice, Wheat, Wheat Germ, Bran Pollard Maize Meal, Lucerne Meal, Coconut Meal, Bone Flour Salt, Vitamins, A D B1 B2 B6 B12 E Minerals Cal Panto, Folic, Biotin, Zinc Magnesium Iodine, Selenium.

It is really good value for money and been recomended by a very reputable breeder who has been using it for years and whose dogs are thriving.

Anyone heard of it? Used it? Got any comments on the ingredients.

  2. Seeing you work at a shelter I'd say your pup is more at risk because of the contact you have with shelter dogs.

This is running along the lines of something I have been thinking about lately. To my understanding and I admit I should double check it as I am having a vague moment but I am sure I will get the right info from you guys. that the diseases pups are vaccinated against are not zoonotic meaning they are not transferred to humans. Whilst that may be the case, can we still somehow transfer them to unvaccinated puppies?

    This brings me to a few questions;

How is this done? Clothing, shoes etc. Is it able to be kept alive this way??

For you groomers out there, how many of you insist on seeing a vaccination certificate before you take on a new dog, whether that is mobile or salon?

I have been thinking about this as I am getting a new pup in around 4 weeks and whilst it will not go into the trailer until all shots are done and dusted I still could be a carrier in some way all be it a small risk.

  3. I'll look at see if i can get a copy of the book too!

Shell, There is also a book getting around that shows the clips and styles for most breeds. It is called "The All Breed Dog Grooming Guide" by Sam Kohl and Catherine Goldstein. It is a very old book but well worth it. They illustrate instructions and has heaps of useful info when starting out. Even if you get a 2nd hand copy, well worth it.

    Cheers

  4. Hi, I would be chopping the trees down if you can, they are not natives so you don't need council permission. If that is not an option you can hire from Kennards a thingy that has an extendable handle and a blade (like a chain saw) and cut the seed bunch off. It was quite cheap to hire. Only a matter of time as they will give one of them a blokage at some point.

    cheers

  5. My dogs stayed at a kennel on Saturday night and my GSD started showing signs of illness about 36 hours later, took him to the vet and after doing blood tests and feaces tests it was discovered he has Colitis (link attached for those who don't know what it is I certainly didn't) http://www.thepetcenter.com/gen/colitis.html

Riley (sick dog) hasn't eaten for 2 days I am very worried about him has anyone elses dog had Colitis and if so what was the outcome ?

It's his 1st birthday today and he's so sick, sad and miserable

Hi, A customers almost 12 year old Lab has Colitis and has so for a number of years. She is extremely happy and doing very well. I know they have to keep her on a strict diet. I don't give her treats when I wash her, the customer has a pile of her stuff ready for me and she is as happy as a pig in mud.

I am sorry I know nothing clinical about it , I just know about this one case.

    Good luck,

  6. Serious question, why do my puppies smell? It's not a dirty/un washed type of smell. It's a breath/phlegmy type of smell.

Is that part of kennel cough? They aren't coughing or anything. Sally smells worse than Leia. It's only around their head that they smell.

Very bizarre. Mr Moo Moo (Mojo) smelt like this when he had Kennel Cough, only reason I thought that. It's apparently in epidemic proportions around our area atm.

Sally has a little sore on the outside of her mouth, but Leia doesn't and she has the same smell. I've looked at Leia's teeth and can't see anything obvious like an ulcer or anything.

Any ideas on what it can be?

Just a thought, only guessing. Could it be ears?

  7. I don't have a problem, I simply think common sense should come into play.

    NO!!! REALLY!!!

I agree, I do need to learn to quote successfully. I am new to the system and will get there. We all make mistakes, don't we!!

    WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT!

    tou-che'

Time to get on with it I think. alot more things in this world to be worried about than my opinion.

  8. rovaaround, I am not really sure what your problem is, but I highly recommend that you lose the attitude and learn how to use quotes successfully. :champagne:

  9. I have just learnt a very good lesson this weekend about skin irritants.... lemon essence irritates skin!

    REALLY!!!

commented to me that two of them must have had small cuts on their feet and the lemon might be stining it as they were both suddenly holding their feet up.

    NO!!!

Lesson learnt - lemon essence may be fine to add to the wash and to clean things with... but don't put it in the dogs bath water!!

    WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT!!!

  10. I know he's a spoilt bastard

He might be spoilt but look at that face!!!! He is so cute!!!

I have no suggestions, I have the same thing with my old collie although not to that extent. She just chucks a hissy fight!!!!

sorry I can't help, just got me laughing when you said he was a spoilt bastard.

    :(

  11. I am having real trouble getting that soft silky texture back into my dogs coat, she is a SCWT with about 1" of coat on her body/legs.

The problem is that she feels really wiry at the moment on her body. her legs and head have that lovely silky texture but not her body.

Any suggestions on what shampoo/conditioner would re-moisturize her coat without making it greasy and flat?

I would go with Aloveen as well. They have a great leave in conditioner that you can use between washes. Just rub some in your hands and rub it on. As far as helping the skin, Flaxseed Oil is an option, omega oils also.

  12. he said we must use it throughout from oct to march once a week.

If you see no hot spots, no licking or no redness you are just wasting good money washing him weekly. Whilst I don't suggest to let it get bad first, certainly keep an eye out for the signs. Then weekly whilst there is a problem.

I have washed dogs fortnightly or monthly and that can maintain things if symptoms aren't flared up in the meantime.

While every dog if different, weekly really is overkill if the skin is healthy.

    cheers

  13. Hi, A bath provides a terrific clean. If you do it in your human tub you have to lean over further and have so much hair to clean up. At least with the hydrobath the hair is at the end of the waste hose and all you have to do is pick the one pile.

If the vet has suggested Malaseb or Pyohex you can't go wrong. It will get it under control pretty quickly and then you will be able gauge if you really need weekly once it is under control. I probably would see how the hot spots react before spending the money on the tub and if you find you have to go weekly then it may be worth the investment.

Where are you? Do some comparisons on local mobile groomers.

  14. Is it possible that the pup is just more enthusiastic about eating this particular food, and finds it worth protecting?

That was my thought. Is he/she food guarding becuase it is enjoying it. Might be worth tyring another premium food and a supplment or accupuncture.

If you stick to HSD feed the pup some carrots to fill it a bit and occupy it's mind.

  15. The show people blow dry there dogs .Fluffing the coat out & a good brush through ensures no matts.

As for a clip its simply comes down to you whether you want an easy maintance coat or more coat & the coat your dog has.

Shampoo is an individual dog thing .We use heads n shoulders or pantene.

When you say you use Head and Shoulders or Pantene?? Wouldn't you use something PH balanced for dogs? They have a different ph level to us. I am guessing they give you no problems?

  16. Yes, my family have a Lagotto which we groom ourselves. What would you like to know?

Hi, I am aware you should not blow dry and only us a comb no brushes. ??? Also with clipping, any do's or don't's ?? What shampoo do you use? Have you found any that really do not suit?
