  1. Does anyone know if the DAP collars or other brands of pheromone collars are available in Australia? I have seen them for sale in the US and UK, but no Australian stores seem to have them and the nurses at my vet clinic haven't heard of them. My GSDx suffers from anxiety including fear aggression of other dogs and excessive barking when we are not at home. I am getting the DAP diffuser for the house and some Rescue Remedy, but I love the sound of the collar as it sounds the perfect solution for him when we are not at home and he isn't inside and when we are out on our daily walks. Thanks
  2. Apple cider vinegar does not cause hair to fall out. I agree with those here that says that it sounds like dermodex mange. However, without seeing pictures or being able to do a scraping, I can't be sure. Please make an appointment at your vet's as soon as possible. It is not normal for a healthy dog to start losing hair and it is best to get on top of these things early before they develop into a more serious problem.
  3. Propofol is the name of the anaesthetic we used on older dogs when I was working as vet nurse (June last year). It is also used in human medicine. The dogs wake up a lot nicer from it than using Thiobarbital. I agree with everyone who has said that you should get it biopsied. That way if it is nothing, then the lump is gone and if it is cancer, then it has also been removed. This should save multiple operations. I hope it is nothing too serious. Please keep us updated on how it all goes.
  4. My 5 year old desexed GSDx Caleb was a rescue dog that we adopted when he was 5 months old. When we got him he was scared of everything: people, dogs, unknown places - you name it, he was frightened of it. With a lot of work, we got him to the point where people were great and he would play with other dogs , although Rory our beagle had to play with the dog first before he would join in. Then our offlead dog park got closed down and straight after that we had three incidents where Caleb was harassed and threatened by off lead and out of control dogs. Caleb went from being a dog who would greet and play with other dogs to a dog that would growl and threaten other dogs. This was about three years ago. During that time, we have managed to get Caleb to the point where he can see another dog without his hackles going up, but we are still nowhere near getting Caleb relaxed enough to meet other dog let alone play with one. I don't want to move to the point of letting Caleb interact with other dogs without professional help. So much could go wrong and I would never forgive myself if he hurt another dog. Therefore, I need recommendations of trainers/behaviourists that have a lot of experience working with aggressive dogs and that train by use of positive reinforcement. Does anyone know of any in the Sydney area?
  5. Poor Flynn I was wondering if physiotherapy might help her. Is she having problems with mobility or is it only her face/jaw that is affected?
