Yes good point and I will be doing this. For now I have put the collar away until i can speak to Steve however I just thought I would see if anyone had any ideas I should be thinking about.

Hi, I have been having some issues with my 18mnth GSD around chasing things (ie sheep and roos!) and an unreliable recall. After trying other training I have spoken to Steve from k9 force and purchased an e collar which Im very excited about. I also received a training manual with it which i have read many times and planned my training program. I have had it on her for 2 weeks now without it being on to get her used to wearing it, I am now at the stage of trying to find her working setting. Yesterday I waited for her to relax and take her focus off me and slowly worked through the levels of the collar until I got a reaction. I got to level 19 before I got anything. I did this a few times and came to the same level before a reaction. Im not sure if the reaction i am getting is to strong though. When I turn it on she bites at her neck, after a second or two she stops, but this happens every time I turn it on. I am worried that this level is causing her discomfort. Or is this just a normal reaction. If it is to high should I go down a level even though I cant see a noticable reaction to the collar? Im not sure she is feeling anything at the lower level. I also have another question to go along with this. Today I went out again but could get NO response whatsover. I got it up to setting 25 and still nothing. I didnt want to go higher in case I hurt her. I adjusted the collar a few times and had it on quite tight ( I couldnt move it at all!) WHAT AM I DOING WRONG???? I know the collar was working cos I could feel it on myself. Could it be the collar isnt working though her fur? If so is there any way to address this? I thing I may be E collar challenged Any advice would me most welcome Thanks

She weighs 33 kg. She gets sbout 60% meaty bones and 20% vegies/fruit and the rest is fish offal etc. In one of the books I read it suggested I calculate how much to feed her based on what I was already feeding her in dry food. Im not sure Ive got it right though.

In the morning she gets meaty bones, chicken wings, chicken neck, lamb necks, flaps etc about 600-770gm (about 4 big wings). At night I feed her a blend of vegies, usualy spinach, silver beet, zuchini, carrots, tomatoes etc plus some beef or pork with an egg. twice a week she gets some offal and once a week fish. I also add a little cod liver oil and kelp to her dinner. Im working on about 400gm of vegies and 200 of meat or fish etc. Oh she also gets some fruit included in her vegie mash about twice a week. I guess in total shes eating about 1.2kg of food a day, sometimes a little less.

HI, I have started feeding my GSD on a raw food diet too. The info on this site has been fantastic and really helpful. I have a question regarding how much to feed. I have read The Barf Diet and calucated the portions according to what it suggested, but she seemed to be hunrgy still. I started feeding her more than they recommend but she still seems a bit hungry. Every night she flies through her dinner and then licks her bowl for about 5 minutes after. She hasnt lost to much weight but Im worried Im not feeding her enough. should i keep increasing her food til she doesnt seem so hungry or is this just normal? Any thoughts??

I use a martingale collar on her which is just a cloth one and doesnt seem to do much. I have just bought a collar from Steve at k9 force that he tried on her and had some results. Cant wait to get it! No I dont have a shut down command. Can you explain a bit to me?? Sorry I live in a country town in Vic and am learning to train my dog myself so ANY advice is appreciated

I have taken her to obedience training since she was 5 months old. She has improved at training most of the time and has learned to behave there. The eye contact thing is something that I am working on to, good idea. I have started the Triangle of Temptation training. hopefuly that will help. Its good to know Im not the only one with this problem though! Thanks for you help

Yes we were in Melbourne, she was the black one who wouldnt sit still for more than 3 minutes! Mica is also usually better with lots of other dogs around as she went to training and is used to having to be somewhat civil. She is getting worse though, I took her for a walk the other day and we encountered a black lab chasing another car up the street. She lost all focus and started running on the spot puliing in all directions and carrying on like it was a life or death situation to get to that dog. I had to drag her away up the street. she didnt calm down for about 5 minutes after the dog was out of sight. I have also spoken to Steve about a collar and am looking into that as well as practicing the Drive training that was discussed at the workshop.

I have a 16 month old GSD who loves other dogs. This in itself is great as she gets on with most dogs she meets. The problem I am having with her is that it has got to the stage where other dogs are way more interesting to her than I am. Whenever she sees another dog she goes absolutley nuts, pulls on the lead, runs on the spot, whines and carries on. I can barely hold her back from just charging over to them for a play. When not around other dogs she is generaly well behaved and listens to me, but as soon as another dog comes into the picture I dont exist. I have tried trying to calm her down, not letting her see other dogs or trying to distract her but it doesnt work. No corrections get her attention. In hind site I think it is my fault as I let her play with other dogs when she was younger and she now sees that as what to do with other dogs, but how do I address this? I am finding it hard to take her into public as her display of excitement is so over the top. Does anyone have any helpful ideas on how to address this and help keep her calm around other dogs? I attended a wokshop by Steve from k9 force about drive training and am going to start training her in this in the hope that it will help give me some control back. Any other ideas??

I was thinking of getting a Dogtra collar fro my GSD. How do you find them?
