  1. Bat lyssa virus is causes almost exactly the same disease in humans so if you are ever bitten then you need rabies vaccination or keep the bat for testing. True rabies doesn't exist and dogs don't need vaccinating
  2. Having the same problem at the moment with the whippets in Qld, despite pj's polar fleece, 2x wool beds, and crate covers the little one wakes me up 3 x per night. Arrrggghhh
  3. We have just got married in Tassie so we had to find accommodation for the 2 whippets They can be a bit naughty and escape one of them got out of fort knox at home. She digs, climbs, squeezes you name it. Plus they are short coated We went to Firethorn while ok it was just a concrete box with one bed for 2 dogs, no run, and a massive great dane next too them. We dropped them off then picked them up 2 hrs later we couldn't do it In the end at short notice we dropped them at Maroochy boarding kennels, they were fantastic, and the girls got the delux suite yep spoilt mutts. They liked the chairs and beds and had there own run. Nice clean facilities
  4. We use the Palmwoods vet - fantastic service, lovely people and I know one of the vets as well Love them
  5. I am after some recommendations on video camera's I am picking up my new pony tomorrow and I would really like to record how we progress. Also I would like to send some video's of my riding home to Tassie for my grandparents as I live in queensland. I haven't had much experience with video camera's so it must be fairly easy to use with good picture quality
  6. Have a look at Amstaffs4me - there is a big discussion on Member Market place under commercial with heaps of pics of her work I have a set for the whippies and they are great value and quality plus she has heaps of cool patterns and will customise if you ask her to
  7. PokeyLittlePuppy - tell me more I have always wanted a BC, and my 2 are relatively tolerant
  8. The dally pup is just beautiful My complicating factor is I live in Qld
  9. I was mucking around on the internet last night while home alone - I went on the dogs home of tasmania site and fell in love I already have 2 whippets but ...... she is just gorgeous about 18mths old So tempted to find out more about her
  10. This place is awesome. http://www.camptailwaggers.com.au/ Self contained cabins with secure yards, dog doors, dogs allowed inside. Lovely bush tracks for long walks. Wonderful service and owners. Also had a boarding kennels if you want to go out for the day and don't trust your dogs Big thumbs up from me
  11. Thanks to everyone Peppi is gorgeous with personality to match
  12. This is Paleface Peppi my latest addition. I have had him for about 3 months and are smitten by him. Such a character - he talks to me for carrots (literally)
  13. oh Oberon has grown up so fast - my whippets live in Nambour and I am sure would love him
  14. Buy a cheap set of single sheets in favourite fabric and throw over - if you get the set you can use the fitted one as well - more easily washed Alternatively I bought an awesome waterproof one from ebay for $30 - great fit
  15. Saw this on another forum and thought some people might be interested Badmiton horse trials on One HD 11-12 today
  16. Sharnie is a particular gem, she is so so so laid back. A wonderful asset to the breed My whippet has charged and snapped at her and Sharnie just looks down her regal nose at her. Jane is awesome as well - she has helped us heaps can't speak highly enough of her.
  17. From a human perspective his heart was sick and he had fluid on the lung (pulmonary oedema) the fluid you were seeing was the pulmonary oedema unfortunately not nice. Hope his passing was peaceful
  18. If finding a local trainer doesn't work out always try Steve www.k9pro.com.au (I think) He has distance programs for loose leash walking and raising a puppy I am doing a program on training in Prey drive with awesome results witha whippet
  19. oh yeah I have fallen in love with my K9pro leather lead it is so light flexible and great - Thanks Steve
  20. Robbi I can sympathise My naughty whippet Lucy was going great guns in agility off and on lead however a BORDER COLLIE joined the class and she turned into a snarling snapping lunging mess. So with the help of an awesome trainer (Jane Harper) we changed handlers - from my OH to me as he gets nervous and frustrated with her behaviour and I don't seem to. Last week we only had one little incident b/c stupid BC owner came to close - BAH when will other dog people learn to give everyone space regardless of breed etc. Also it didn't help when newbies came in with their snapping smf into the wrong class. They just walked in and made themself comfortable with absolutely no control of dog. our current strategy is focus on me with food _ that god this dog is FOOD motivated So we give lots of space and i treat for looks without reaction, attention on me, any relaxed behaviour like lying down. When on equipment we are on lead for now until my recalls are a bit stronger but lots of high pitched girly praise which she laps up . You can only learn from it and it will make you a better person and dog owner
  21. I made my own jump cups before getting some Clean run ones - I got the t-piece connects and cut them in half then with a bit of grit filed out the shelf so they slide - they work very nicely - bit fiddly but good result and you can make them as deep or shallow as you like. Much cheaper than jump cups
  22. There is someone selling some in the marketplace in other I think
  23. Oh yeah - Erny has converted me as well Calendula is great and cheap - just dried marigold flowers, smells pleasant
  24. Oh goodness don't get me started on allergies but here are some suggestions: 1. Evening primrose oil shampoo - vet grade from Groomers - smells lovely and does help with the itch 2. Aloveen can be ok but be careful b/c if you dog is allergic to oats then it may make things worse 3. Malaseb is my current shampoo when hotspots break out - it cleans up dandruff and kills fungi and bacteria 4. Dermatologists can order a spray for your dog that is a steriod spray (Cortivance)- only active once it touches the skin and isn't absorbed into the blood stream to cause other steroid problems like creams are: however a cheaper option is to go to your local chemist and get a 0.5% steriod cream - use very sparingly as needed b/c it will be absorbed systemically but will clear things up when desperate 5. Diet - KISS principle - my allergy dog has BARF and after 2 months on Dr B's patties her skin is awesome for her - it works out if you feed half a patty as 80cents per meal which is quite cheap. Also beef is the worst meat. So avoid that, but don't forget lots of bones to chew on for breath 6. If they get conjunctivitis then bathing the eyes with cool tea on a cotton ball
  25. Love the new site Steve its awesome - well done
