  1. No way, you did the right thing! I wouldn't feel bad, it was attacking poor Rosie. I'd also be calling the rangers! They should be apologising to you. And this is why I, and many others, are too afraid to walk our dogs. And some think we are overreacting by being afraid of this type of thing happening icon_smile_mad.gif

Hope Rosie is ok? Hugs to ya, I know that feeling!!

  2. Ruby Star you have been my downfall  I am up to $154 on the Wiggle site & still going. I couldn't believe the selection of quality swimmers & the price is just unbelievable....or maybe it was just a dream & when I go back into the site everything tempting will disappear.

laugh.gif yeah I seem to want to keep buying stuff just for the hell of it! I need a new backpack for uni so ordered one with my $35 pair of Pumas. I also ordered a drink bottle, cos ya know, you can't buy them in shops here rofl1.gif

Sometimes if you're lucky, you go back and it has gotten cheaper! Happened with my last pair of Adidas shoes. Got them for 50 bucks thumbsup1.gif

Oh shoot!! I only just realised that the order I placed on Monday was missing a cap that I had in my basket but it somehow disappeared without me noticing when I checked out and paid crying.gif I have just emailed them to plead with them to add it to my order and send it when my currently out of stock items come in and are sent. I will be disappointed if they refuse as I don't want to pay shipping costs when I've already ordered enough to qualify for free shipping, considering I buy from them regularly and have just referred them more business! :p

No such luck here...I made an order up last night (took me ages to decide on things) & sent my request in for the $8.00 voucher, which hasn't come, but in the meantime my order total has jumped by $11.00 while I have been waiting for my voucher

Check your junk mail folder? It was emailed to me instantly. I'd contact them and ask :)

  4. Footwear is not on free shipping, but OH is interested in a pair of waterproof shoes. Does anyone know how US corresponds to either Aussie or continental sizing? He is about a size 7 - 7.5

Can't help directly trifecta. But a couple of thoughts.

Have a look at the tongue label on some trainers here .. most have US and European sizes on them. Having said that, I find that sizes vary with make.

And also, given that shipping from CR is very expensive (hence we get so excited about free shipping :D ) I would think it would be more cost effective to buy here - there are some great Goretex shoes available in different brands - from hiking and camping places like Mountain Designs, Snowgum, etc. etc.

Try Wiggle.com.au for shoes - good prices and if you spend over $75 I think it is, free shipping thumbsup1.gif

I may or may not have just placed my 3rd Wiggle order in a year embarrass.gif It's becoming my own Clean Run for human goodies!

Ohhhhhhhh....RS, you are a very naughty enabler :mad I just took a peak & they have all the Helly Hansen gear & such great prices :)

Then my job here is done :D

My status on Wiggle says I now qualify for Gold customer discount. Ooops embarrass.gif I guess it's a plus I'm not at platinum yet, gotta spend 500 pounds in a year to get that laugh.gif

ETA: Sign up for the wiggle email newsletter and you get $8 off your first order :)

  6. Stay away from anyone underwritten by Hollard (which is most of them!!) After you claim, that becomes an exclusion in the renewal policy, and you're stuck because you can't switch insurers because that would then be an exclusion with everyone else. Pet plan cover for life and are not underwritten by Hollard. Medibank are jerks, too :)

  7. If I am in an off lead area, as opposed to an off lead fully fenced park, then I do expect to be able to walk my on lead dog there without being approached by off lead dogs. Where I live there is no off lead park but only a couple of off lead area's. These area's are multi purpose walking/bike tracks. One runs past a school, both run alongside a river/creek. Lovely walking, jogging, biking tracks. I've given up walking my dogs there because of off lead dogs being allowed to menace mine. It's a joint area so people who allow their dogs to run around off lead should not be allowing them to run up to other dogs without asking if it's alright first. How hard is it to call your dog back and have it under control and then ask the approaching person if the dogs can greet? It's called respect people. Thank Dog I can take my dogs to the local slipping tack for a run a couple of times a week.

Exactly my situation too, Rebanne :) I'm lucky I have the DogsWest grounds local to me, where I can take them for an offlead romp with little chance of meeting others, and when there are others, they usually are just as respectful about keeping control of their dogs, or if we know each other (which is a good chance), we may agree to let ours run together. Took mine puddle jumping there on Friday and we had the whole oval to ourselves for a good 40 mins thumbsup1.gif

  8. Lucky most big dog owners tend to understand when you explain she's a bit nervy, but it's hard not to panic for her, which makes it worse!

I'm sorry Steph, I don't mean to keep singling you out, it's just that you mention things that I want to put my 2c worth in about and it's a general response, not directly aimed at you :)

Big dogs get nervy, too, which doesn't equate aggressive. It's a shame really when people can sympathize with a small dog reacting a bit nervous about dogs approaching them, but people automatically assume aggressive when it's the big dog feeling uneasy. No, I do not have an aggressive dog, she has the loveliest nature with people and known dogs, but feels quite uneasy with strange dogs approaching her - which is why I prefer offlead dogs not approaching her in such a manner.

I am quite confused why people don't understand big dogs have the same emotions, but don't have the same understanding they do for them like they do the little dogs? I have big dogs and little dogs, they all get along well together and with known dogs and I am far more at ease about friendly strange dog interactions with them, I just tense up (rationally or irrationally, I still do) when it comes to this particular dog as it upsets her. Until you've owned one, you probably can't fully understand. I didn't until her. She's really made me see things differently.

  9. Sorry Steph I wasn't clear about what I meant, I was just taking about an ordinary people park not a off leash dog park.

Of course in a dog park everyone must mix together, no point in going to one of those and expecting to be in your own bubble of personal space. I've only ever been to an off leash beach for small dogs, I've never had a problem, my little girl is easy going and mixes well. She's even good with tiny puppies. ????

I meant dog owners in an ordinary park letting their dogs off leash, I come across that regularly, some dogs are ok but others seem to take a dislike to my easy going well behaved little dog. I often wonder if she was more agressive would that put them off menacing her or would it make matters worse? ????.

Agree with Trudy. I don't do those fenced offlead dog parks, but I do shared parks with people and dogs. If my dog is onlead and your offlead dog bounds up to mine in one of these parks, I will be one of those people up in arms about it. I have every right to be there, too, and not be harassed!

  10. You don't have to own a reactive dog to be sick to death of all the offlead dogs harassing you and yours. I don't want your dog coming up to mine uninvited. Why is that so hard for some to understand? I don't care how friendly or well mannered it is, if you are not in an off lead area put the damn dog on a leash.

YES! And can I take it one step further and ask even if you are in an offlead area, keep some control over your dog. Offlead area does not mean free reign to go up to every other dog in the vicinity, friendly or not.

And it seems walking the dogs at 6am still isn't early enough to avoid troubles. One day I was walking mine down a quiet suburban street, no people around, and it wasn't until I was practically right on top of it did I notice a large breed dog laying in the front yard of the house. I immediately crossed the road at the T-junction and went in the opposite direction, trying desperately to keep my cool for my dogs sake as I've already had several bad experiences, and the dog starts following us! Quietly freaking out, I kept walking without acknowledging the dog and my dogs remarkably did the same. It got the message and buggered off. I am SO thankful the dog wasn't DA and that my dogs followed my lead. I was gobsmacked they ignored this dog, and SO proud of them (one loves all dogs, the other does not like strange dogs approaching her, especially while on lead, so this in itself was a miracle). Continued my walk home shaking like a leaf.

  11. From everything I have read her condition could be 'sphincter muscle weakness' and I was wondering if Bowens or Acupunture treatment would be helpful and if anyone has had experience using these treatments for incontinence.

Just offering my experience with a Bowen therapist with my dogs incontinence. My dog would wee in her sleep in warmer months when she drank more - it appeared she just had no control and no idea she had wet herself when she was laying down. Visited a bowen therapist for just a general going over and mentioned this, and to my surprise she said she could help with that, did her "thing" down there and we haven't had an occurrence, since! This was about 2-3 years ago now. Might not work for every dog as the reasons for incontinence can vary, but just wanted to let you know for our particular problem, Bowen worked absolute wonders thumbsup1.gif

  12. This one really touches a nerve with me. I have a typically friendly dog (Lab), to dogs and humans, who does not appreciate unknown dogs, of any size, to run up to her - especially while she is onlead. I do not let her approach other dogs but unfortunately do not get the same respect and I am sick of dogs running up to her. This could be us, and her in the pound if she felt sufficiently threatened and it wouldn't be her fault. Why isn't the approaching dog who initiated this in the pound?!?! Why can't people keep their dogs under control, and if you can't, keep them on a frickin' lead.

This same dog of mine was "attacked" by a JRT at the beach when they came into our space. This dog was hanging off the scruff of her neck with its teeth and my poor girl could only just stand there with this WTF look on her face. Imagine if it had been the other way round? icon_smile_mad.gif

I'm sorry this woman got her finger bitten off, but she wasn't mauled by a human aggressive dog, and probably not even by a dog aggressive dog. She just got in the way of a dog who probably got jack of dogs getting in its face while minding its own business on lead, and if she had control of her own dog in the first place, she'd still have her finger.

  13. I have been waiting for MOOOOONTHS for the Biggie's Bungee Bunny Pouch Toy to come on free shipping. Last week I got tired of waiting so bought it. Of course NOW it's on free shipping - I just knew that would happen!!!! I bet it wouldn't be there if I hadn't just bought it :p Lucky I shared shipping with someone and it only ended up costing me $4 extra, BUT STILL!!!! Hmph! laugh.gif

  14. I may as well do a belated mid-year update like everyone else laugh.gif

    RUBY

    * RE title

    CHECK!

    * Need to gain her confidence back on the solid jump after she hit it lightly (no injury, just a scare which has turned into a solid jump phobia now. The princess doesn't take much to get her confidence shaken!)

    CHECK!

    * Keep working towards our UD title if we can get the jump thing under control. A pass would be nice  (we've been close, but no cigar!)

Have had a bit of a break this year from obedience trialling, but we're still working hard on training! She has all exercises down pat, it's just a matter of performing them all in one hit at a trial laugh.gif

    * Work on her soft mouth for retrieving and perhaps enter some more retrieving trials if I feel confident enough.

We trained some more but with being so busy with work/uni and obedience training taking priority, I have pretty much decided we won't be back to retrieving.

    * Have continued success at Retrieving Ability Tests if more are held this year. Depending on how many are held, perhaps our NRA title.

Needs one more pass for her NRA title. We have another chance in October.

BONUS: the surprise being that Ruby has gained 2 more ADX quallies and 2 JDM quallies - Go Ruby! laugh.gif

    MILLIE

    * RE title

Needs one more pass, however, have taken a break from obedience trialling. Will try again in the coming months or next year.

    * Get her better prepared for UD

UD is coming along nicely for her! Might attempt it next year.

    * Some passes towards her JDM title

    Does 1 pass count? laugh.gif

    * ADX title

Hmm still no more passes, but we trial agility sparingly so this goal is out. Fabulous in training, woeful at trialling!

    * Have continued success at Retrieving Ability Tests if more are held this year. Depending on how many are held, perhaps our NRA title.

NRA title CHECK!! First in W.A. to sport this title biggrin.gifNot bad for the unpapered gundog :p

PIPPA (my new contestant for 2013!)

    * Get her ready for CCD/Novice obedience

Still training and still in no rush whatsoever to get her into that obedience ring. Just having fun!

    * Get her ready for Novice Agility/Jumping

Debuted in novice agility/jumping in April at our state titles. Gained her JD title that weekend, and had her JDX debut this past weekend. Going great guns but confidence/experience is still currently being built :)

I'm in no rush to get her in the ring for obedience and agility, though. We'll enter when we enter :)
