  1. I give our boys Zeel tablets, one per day. It's a human supplement but the vet recommended it as an anti-inflammatory for Brandi's bladder and system and it also is used for arthritis relief. Hermon no longer limps on his injured leg and Benny is going great guns. The dogs also love the Costco memory foam beds - they are the bed of choice in this house and seem to give a really good amount of both cushioning and support and big enough for Hermon to stretch out.

Oh great I have been meaning to go checkout costco so this will be a great excuse to get down there and check it out.

  2. I agree about the trial and error thing. My sister also bought a range of other supplements all at the same time but we started using the Sascha's Blend, it worked and we haven't even opened the other stuff. I can see a big jar of Joint Support and another called Techny Flex Canine still sealed. There could be others hiding in the cupboard. Obviously there are a few options out there on the market!

Very true, the only difference is the price of some of these supplement :dropjaw:

  3. wow thanks for all the suggestions everyone. Much appreciated.

As you said BC Crazy and Ness is trial and error. So I will take everything on board and try and find what works best with my boy.

LisaCC that's a great idea... Surely Clark rubber would have something I could use. Thanks for the suggestion. :) I will definitely look into pernaease powder too.

Thanks for the input Little Gifts I actually haven't heard of Sascha's Blend, so I will look into this one also.

  4. Hey everyone long time no post

Unfortunately my return is not on a positive note but I know I can always count on you trusty DOLers!

A couple of days ago Boss was diagnosed with arthritis, he has had his synovan shot and is due to go back every week for the next month. He's also on Carprofen tablets everyday.

Luckily we discovered it at an early stage so hopefully we can prevent it or delay it getting worse.

So I have done some research on supplements to give him and what to hear your thoughts and experiences on NAS Omega 3, 6 & 9 Oil and NAS Joint and Ligament Support? Or any recommendations you have?

Also any suggestions on a mat or bed for him? Nothing outrageously expensive as its just for him to sit on whilst I'm in the lounge room otherwise he sleeps on the bed.

    Thanks everyone :)

Will he eat raw chicken feet? I give my two mini schnauzers a frozen one each as they have natural glucausamine. I have fed these to all my dogs and have never had an arthritis problem with any of them.

Oh thats interesting to know. Thank you. I will put that on my list hopefully he likes them, It would be a great treat!

  6. pitbulls and parolees is a tv program about a lady who rescues pitbulls. I have just started to watch it and absolutely LOVE it!

I noticed topics back in 2009 about this tv program, so just putting it out there that now it is played on Australian TV on the Animal Planet channel. (it may have been playing for longer but I've just discovered it)

  7. From my understanding (here in NSW) when a pet dies and you ask the vet to take care of it, the pet is sent off to be cremated. I remember being asked (when my first died back in 07) whether I wanted the dog to be cremated publicly or privately.

Privately is when they are sent off to pets at peace (or the like) to be cremated and sent back to you, wheras publicly, they go to be cremated with a heap of other pets and you don't get their ashes back.

I have had all 5 of mine done privately through pets at peace.

At the RSPCA, Yagoona, they used to cremate them in the furnace, then bury their ashes in huge holes, like landfill. :( Not sure how it works there now though, this was nearly 20 yrs ago I am talking.

At the time I really wish the vet had suggested cremation, he probably did. But I just couldn't deal with it anymore.

A lesson learned. And to anyone reading think about it before anything happens.

  8. Unfortunately you wouldn't be able to get her back, sorry Miss B.

Bodies of deceased pets that aren't cremated are buried in a specific area set aside for medical waste.

I can understand your regret but you shouldn't. Once your dog had passed away, she was gone and it was just her body that was left. All that she knew was the awesome time she had with you during her life. :)

Thank you stormie this made me cry happy tears

I knew it was a long shot I've just been beating myself up over it the last couple of days. Even having dreams about it

lavendergirl that's a great idea, I feel I have to do something for her :)

  9. Strange question but here it goes.

Where or what do vets do with deceased pets?

The reason I ask is after my dog was PTS I made the quick decision of them "taking care" of her. And that's my biggest regret.

I don't suppose it would be possible to get to her back at all... ?

  11. Is this what you guys are looking for?

    http://www.rna.org.au/media/303626/2011-canine-schedule.pdf

Thanks for the schedule MissB. I see that the schedule starts at 9am - can someone tell me approx. what time a breed listed as number 5 would be showing?

    Thanks

    Hi,

Judging starts at 9,00 in both rings.

You would really need the catalogue to see how many dogs are entered in the classes befoe the dogs you want to see.

    Oh ok thanks.

In that case can someone please email me the catalogue [email protected] :) thank you!!

  12. I can't remember the name of the weed killer I used but I think it had glyphosate written on it. I just ended up spraying the weeds late at night while Boss was locked inside then plicked them out the next day and hosed everything down before letting him out.... paranoid freak I am considering I've possibly lost a dog to weed killer/rat poison or something.

    Thanks everyone :)

  14. Hey guys my regular dog food supplier of 3 years is now closing, Canine Country. YEP the one at woodridge.

I have no idea where to buy dog food now... my dog is eating supermarket food at the moment

I live on the south side of Brisbane. I need a new supplier HELP ME please :)

ETA: I did look at the sticky but that hasn't been updated in a while.

Sorry but wrong with supermarket meat.

You could always try Lenards for chicken I buy most of my dog food there.

If you want you could always try the bulk meat butchers. They often have great deals on meats that are used for dogs.

I don't like the supermarket meat rolls.

Good idea Big Gun is just down the road from me.

Sorry misunderstood thought you meant meat from the Supermarket.

HAHA lucky dog if he was, but no no supermarket dog food.

  17. Welcome to the breed.

I currently have three GP girls here and we live with 6 shepherds. I"m not sure what everyone is feeding their GP's (rocket fuel?) but I"m always amazed when I keep hearing about how they are 'over the top', 'non stop' etc....my girls play of course, but generally are couch slugs. They are no more annoying than the Shepherds when it comes to being under foot. There are of course differences in personality between the breeds as Shepherds are wired to please us no matter what, but GP's ask you to take a number and they'll get back to you later!

Do you have any photos of an Adult GP with an Adult GSD? I would just like to compare. GPs are on my "own one day" list

  18. My Dane was one of 16 pups, all surviving.

Those pups look fairly old though (as in, older than 8 weeks). I hope she has homes lined up for them!!

I reckon they are about 6-7 weeks.... they just grow so big so quick.

I'll take them all  naww I want another one!
