  1. Rosie has the occasional - sorry often - mad moment and runs from the end of theyard - in the door - bounces off the couch and runs down the hallway - and then back - funny to see not funny to get in the way of
  2. Beautiful - having trouble typing through the tears
  3. Let me just add my thoughts and condolences to you - I had to make that decision 3 years ago for our ACD X - she was my special girl but she was uncomfortable and would have experienced more pain as the time went on. The vet gave her 3 months at the most but I couldn't do that to her......coming home without her was hard  . Rainbow Bridge was excellent and helped me a lot with talking to my kids - who were 4 and 6 - they still talk about Jess in Rainbow Bridge and when my Dad passed recently one of the first things they said was "He will see Jess (our ACD) and Max (parents old beagle) at Rainbow Bridge." We had 2 other dogs and so there wasn't as big a sense of loss to them I think but I don't know - they did grieve in their own ways... Whatever happens there will be thoughts and support winging their way to you.......... If I can help at all .....pm me
  4. Thanks for the advice - I have to admit Rosie was a pet shop pup - shock - horror..... but by the notes on her vet card I think she came from the SE of SA - I would be interested in that book - our other dogs are crossbreeds and any info about kelpies would be great
  5. Depends on the puppy I think - ours seems to be able to go through the night (touch wood) and she is 14 weeks - but up until 2 weeks ago she was doing it everywhere - I even checked the first couple of mornings to make sure it wasn't hidden anywhere :D She isn't crated but is in our room on her own bed and with the door closed - has access to the outside when we are at home and lives outside when we are not. 2 older dogs so that may have helped. - Fingers crossed she doesn't make a liar of me tonight :D
  6. Few more of Rosie Evil little puppy Passed out after too much evil Smile.......
  7. It is never too late - I took mine at about age 4 - and they still did really well - it was great for me too My Staffy X developed a love of agility that helped control his dog aggression too - Bonus
  8. That's awful - that's what i like about here - you learn so much - it's been a long time between puppies
  9. Ok - suitably chastised Will keep her off the stairs and let her Thunderpaw up and down the hallway instead Makes just as much noise and should keep her happy )and safe )
  10. She only gets a chance to do it when I am on the computer and she is in the mood - I have watched her a few times and she seems to be fairly non stressful on her joints - but will keep that in mind. I don't think it's any worse than some of the things I have seen her doing in the yard She can be pretty mad at times
  11. And here she is - Rosie the wonder dog..........
  12. Oh good - I am not alone!!!! She has rolled down a couple of times but only the last few steps
  13. There is something a bit strange about being eye to eye with a kelpie puppy when you are staning up. My 13 week old puppy spends much of her time while I am on the computer happily climbing up and down he stairs, looking out the window and staring down at me through the banister rails. Sounds like an elephant as well Anyone else have any experience of this sort of thing - I am not worried as we block the stairs off when I am not sitting right next to them but just wanted to share this because I thought it was funny......and off she goes again - should have named her Thunderpaws... Only edited for spelling mistakes
  14. Hi - don't have photos yet - must remember to bring camera home. But here are the details of the new addition to our Household Name - Rosie Breed - Kepie Likes - Her squeaky newspaper toy (yes - they are very loud), annoying our old kelpie x, chasing the kids (and anything else that moves) Dislikes - the hairdryer, being rolled onto her tummy, not being allowed to chew anything and everything SEx - Female (doesn't the name just give it away) Colour - black and tan DOB - 29th May 2008 Hobbies - running, and running, and running, and running........... Will post some photos soon, love seeing all these
  15. ANy advice on best crate to buy - I have NO experience with this at all - is a soft one better than a metal one or..... ...any advice welcome
  16. She sleeps in our bedroom at night - primarily to stop her having roam of a large space. Haven't ever tried crating any of my dogs - might be something to consider if she starts messing at night again.. Thanks
  17. Just when I thought Rosie (13 week old kelpie puppy) had toliet training all worked out I awoke last night to find a wet quilt (yes - the one on the bed - yuck) and this morning found a wet patch AND a poo in the lounge. OH's fault - we usually shut our room door and he left it open --ggrrrr. Anyway - i am going to put the puppy pads down again and give the bed abit of a spray with GET OFF dog repellent - hopefully this was a one off and she won't pee on me again tonight
  18. Hi - I am not in any way a professional but thought it might help to share with you our experience bringing a new puppy into a house with 2 OLD dogs (and yes - that is in capital letters as they are very old - 12 and 16) Our puppy (kelpie) is very lively and has quickly learnt that she can bug our 12 year old bitch (to a certain extent) but needs to leave our 16 year old male alone. We were lucky that we had time to spend at home in the initial couple of weeks but we have still had a few snaps and yelps. I don't know if the puppy had done anything to annoy the older dog or it just thought it had but I really hope it all clears up for you. Gradual supervised contact might be the way to go - but I would also be interested to read any replies. Good luck
  19. We bought a squeaky newspaper and our pup (12 weeks) goes mad with it - we also bought a Home alone that you hang up - from Vets and Pets on the net as we are at work and she is an insane kelpie with lots of energy - expensive but worth it - she seems to be only focussed on her specific toys and leaves most other stuff alone
  20. Hi - what are peoples feelings on 'check chains' - I used those with all my other dogs when training them but am just about to start walking and training a new puppy (kelpie). So far I have used a simple flat collar and have worked with her on getting her to walk where I want her to go but I am intersted to hear other peoples advice. Cheers
