  1. Oh gosh, where do I start?

    Don't get a Husky if:

    - You want a dog that obeys you.

    - You want a dog that's easy to train.

    - You want a dog that you can trust to come back if it gets out.

    - You want a dog that won't give you the finger in the middle of a training session.

    - You want a dog that will live in harmony with small animals even if its not used to them.

    - You don't want a dog that sheds.

Probably stacks more, but they're the ones that have annoyed me lately, and my girl is pretty well trained.

Change Husky to Akita and you're set! In fact, you could probably change that to say don't get a spitz breed if those are your requirements.

Hugo obeys me, was easy to train, I trust him off-leash, he bends over backwards to please me during a training session until I get tired or bored.. Maybe I got a mentally retarded dog because he seriously isn't a pain in the ass that Spitz people keep insisting their dog "group" is just generally like

I would say don't get a Vallhund if you don't want to suffer a stroke every time they bark (which they will LOL, in a very loud, sharp, ear-piercing fashion). Also they shed a hell of a lot. "Moderate shedders" my arse. Can't think of anything else, but I'm particularly biased in thinking that every person should have a Vallhund

Oh, don't get one if you hate the constant thud of tennis balls dropped into your lap, though I haven't a clue if it's like that for all Vallhunds or not.

Halo is like that too, Dju, but I have a feeling she may be the exception rather than the rule! LOL!

My Spitz certainly isn't a pain in the ass, doesn't shed (just drops coat twice a year), she gets on with small animals and listens to me most the time. I'm sure many more do too :)

  2. Thanks OSoSwift and Emery, I told her I think flea collars are useless. I said to try using something like Advocate which covers a host of things. He is spending a fair bit of time in the dirt and at the beach seeing they are camping. I just wondered if there were certain little bities in WA that we had never heard of. If he continues itching she can take him to the vet :)

  3. Hi, I would like to ask you WA folk a question.

My sister's family is travelling around WA and are still below Perth, they have taken their little dog with them who has started scratching like mad and is getting a rather red rash and losing coat from doing so. She said another family's dog was doing the same thing. She has noticed small white things in his coat and not sure if they are some sort of mite or a type of lice. Any thoughts on what they could be and what she can use on him? She has bathed him in Maleseb for the itching.

  4. Oh I didn't think you could get it in SA, I had always been told it was illegal to sell unbleached. How much does it cost?

I thought it was illegal to sell it unbleached and it's not worth buying if it is bleached because it has lost it's goodness...may be wrong though!!!

  5. Oh dear god you two - get over yourselves!

This is simply a thread advising about a public event.

Thanks VAN for posting - its just down the road from me so I might pop down. Will you bump this thread closer to the time to remind people?

Only once I've battened down the hatches

    Be brave

Pity it isn't in SA, I would find this very interesting for my older dog.

Tobster it is available to shops at a few wholesalers in SA but I don't know who stocks it in their shop maybe ring around.

Thanks MBS I might give some a try, I was meaning the event though.

  7. My brother and his wife have 9 yr old twins and have two BC's that were x-showies, they got the first one when the kids were aged 6 and the other one when they were 8, the dogs were both around 2 years old when they got them. Their yard is the average size and they are an active family and both dogs have fitted in so well, they are a perfect fit for them. The kids are always out the back playing ball etc with them and they get daily walks with all the family and go on most their outings and holidays.

  9. So sorry to hear this Katie, not sure if you followed what happened to Toby but after his intestinal obstruction operation he got even sicker and they opened him back up thinking they would lose him on the operating table but they had no choice. Luckily he came through and again he took another 5 days before he started making progress and got to come home. His scar tissue had started adhering together and caused another blockage and he had burst cysts in his pancreas. He ended up with pancreatitis, peritonitis was that skinny he had no reserves left, fought like buggery at 10 years of age with a slight heart murmur. So if Toby can do it so can Earl :crossfingers: I know how you are feeling and it's terrible, we had Toby up at the vets for over 3 weeks and had even said our goodbyes to him at one stage. Myself, OH and my daughter went up every day for cuddles and got to take him out in the sun and I'm sure that helped a lot, that and the best vet and staff ever :)

Come on Earl, fight like buggery mate, your family need you
