  1. I reckon everyone would love to own a perfect dog. And in the perfect world all dogs behave the same, perfectly stable and socialised. But there's no perfect dog without enough training, and training needs enough commitment, time and dedication. People will only train their dogs to the level where they're sufficiently satisfied and unfortunately the threshold level is different between small dog and big dog. A nip to the hand by a small dog would (sadly) be tolerated by the owner, while a nip by a big dog will flare the red alarm. There's greater urgency for big dog to understand manners, since if they don't, they'll probably get dumped by their owners. There are more big dogs out there waiting in the kennels than small dogs. I have respect for people in this forum who try their best to teach and learn with dogs, no matter the size.
  2. Just persevere on it, kitty! My pup also hates his crate, was whining all night long the first time I put him inside (made me almost gave up). It got better gradually, now he's fine by himself all night long. I think they're afraid to be left alone and they fear they won't see you again. As long as you stick with the schedule, they'll understand soon enough. I usually fill in the puppy Kong with some food inside it when I leave him alone, it'll preoccupy his time and makes him fret about it less.
  3. Congrats with your new pom baby! Please keep sharing his pictures with us . I just recently got my own pom myself and he now understands sit and drop command. Someone suggested dogstardaily.com website, and I agree! They have videos accompanying their articles and it helps me a lot on teaching my dog. When it's his eating time, I suggest you search the forum and try the "Triangle of Temptation" technique. It works really well so far in showing him who's the boss in the house. Extra point that he has to sit before getting his food too. About biting, my puppy also has that problem and I haven't fixed it 100%. Keep putting him off you when he starts biting, stand, or leave the room when he does that. Or put his toy near his mouth and hopes it will distract him. Good luck with the rest =).
  4. I'm still training mine too, but one thing that works for me is when you let him wander around in your house don't forget to take him to the right place for toilet every hour. It minimises the damage he could do to the house and reinforces the toilet area. Good luck =)
