  3. I've got three words for you, Julia: Progressive Retinal Atrophy
  4. "felt threatened".... now that is frightening. Quite a few people will cross the street to avoid walking past my three Deerhounds (who are all on lead, under control and very sedate). Do these people may "feel threatened" by my dogs? If so, could I be reported for going on our afternoon stroll?
  5. I have seen many successful PDTs performed over the years. Prior the common use of drugs such as cyclosporin and tacrolimus, PDTs were quite common. Neurogenic dry eye will, of course, not respond as well to these drugs (I assume you have tried oral pilocarpine?) and PDT would be a great option to consider. The stats commonly given by ophthalmologists I have worked with are 80% success rate, with 10% still not producing enough tears, and 10% producing too many tears, post-surgery. Long term, one of the biggest issues is weight gain, as you need to feed your dog very regularly. Obviously if you feed the same TOTAL amount for the day, but just in 5-6 separate meals, you will be fine. Mineral build-up on the cornea from the "tears" (saliva) can also occur, but can be reduced with drops. Best of luck with you dog.

  10. You want a sighthound? You want a Grey but he doesn't want a "skinny" dog? You know three hairy Greyhounds (that are "skinny" but don't have the appearance of the Greys that puts some people off...) and I know you love 'em, Kirty... ;)
  11. Apart from the excessive ear-cleaning charge, I think the over-all cost was very reasonable.

  13. I am led to believe outside. We were told today (at the toy dog club open show) that we were able to leave stuff down overnight, out stuff was where group 4 usually would be, so one assumes that only group 1 will be inside. Woo hoo! Thank you, BBJ!
  14. Does anyone know if Group 4 is inside or outside tomorrow at Bulla? Or if everyone is inside or out on Saturday & Sunday at KCC? Cheers
  15. How did you go? Fingers crossed for you that it was good news
  16. Megz, would there be any chance of you putting up the Deerhound entries, please?
  17. They are WONDERFUL at SARC. I have my dog's cardiac certificates done there and have also used their emergency services for all my dogs (and the cat!) at some point over the years. You could not be in better hands. Good luck for Monday; I am sure Matt will get you some answers.
  18. Can I ask who you are seeing? $200 should cover the consultation, but make sure you get them to explain the costs of any tests they are doing along the way... For example, measuring the pressure inside the eye (tonometry) can be done within the consultation, but can add up to $40 to your bill. It all adds up quickly. Let them know at the outset that costs are a concern.
  19. It depends on the specialist, but as a guide, an eye specialist charges around $165 and a small animal surgeon charges about $150. What ever they charge, specialists are worth every cent. Best wishes for your dog. :D ETA: these costs are for the initial consultation. Subsequent consultations are considerably less.
  20. One of my dogs has injured a biceps tendon, causing some minor instability in the shoulder (ie. intermittent grade I - II lameness). I was wondering if anyone else had any similar experiences and how it was treated. TIA
  21. My boy did not seem overly sore in his neck; he was generally sore all over, but had bi-lateral forelimb lameness. Your Chiropractic vet (or a even vet that does acupuncture) would probably be very useful for your girl.
  22. My old boy was diagnosed with Panosteitis by a veterinary specialist when he I purchased him at 5 months old. Six weeks of lead walking, NSAIDs when needed, Ester-C daily and severely restricting his calorie intake saw him make a quick and complete recovery. Best wishes for your dog, K&P.
  23. Another very happy Canidae-convert here. Had my dogs on it for 3 months - allergy-boy on grain-free, and the girls on ALS. While it is only a small part of their diet, I couldn't be happier.
