  1. My frienf is bringing his desexed male back into the conformation ring and asked me a question and i don't know the answer but I am sure one on my fellow DOLers with knowledge will know the answer;

    Q. If the dog is awarded Best Neuter Dog, then best neuter of breed and then competed for Best Neuter In Group and wins it is the dog awarded any further points other than what it is awarded for Best neuter of Breed?

    Thanks

Nope, it's only awarded breed points (even if it goes Neuter in Show)

  2. One Belgian Shepherd in one State. Name me the last Leonberger or Pharoah Hound. The Dogzonline point score is keeping the Grand Champions showing. Look at who leads each State and breed. Point score won't keep me showing but a change back in the GC conditions probably will.

There is an import Pharoah Hound in the NT who has won several BIS.

Beat me to it Pappy :D

And she's recently become a Grand Champion!

  3. I got to pick up this little guy today... :D  This is Jerry! He is just too gorgeous, and is busy snuggling with the kids on the couch as I type.

I can't wait to get back out there!! Looking forward to his first shows at the end of September

Aww....does this mean I'll have a crush on two of your dogs?:laugh:

  4. But, I answered one to two for the first two questions and none for the third :)

So for question 1, just because they show, they should automatically be able to breed a litter? I selected N/A for that question, because it mentioned showing only and not health testing like question 2 did. Had it said showing AND health testing (for relevant breeds), my answer would have been different.

Don't rcall that being an option when I answered.

If you quoted the rest of my post, you would see that I said there are some breeders who health test and show and shouldn't have any litters.

I know of a breeder who health tests and shows. Her line has a GDV problem. She is getting ready to breed from a bitch who had GDV (requiring surgery) at about 12 months of age. :( The dam of this bitch has D grade hips and could not naturally whelp (2 litters, 2 ceasers (sp??)). :(

She's ready to put this poor girl through the stress of whelping and raising a litter. :mad IMO this is beyond plain wrong, it shouldn't be allowed. :(

  5. I brought a concrete barrel look planter (which holds about 25 to 30 litres) from a local garden store ... it came with the hole already plugged otherwise I you can just plug it.

The dogs were destroyed all other water bowls and this works brilliantly ... and it keeps the water cooler in summer.

I've got something similar. It's supposed to be a garden water feature bowl :D

    Works great

  6. Is that the front area directly in front of the dog grounds itsmeg? If that is full where else are we able to park? Im guessing it will be pretty full by 2pm :-)

Yep, it's directly out the front.

It doesn't usually fill up completely, and there's traffic guys who will direct you to empty spots.

Are you on today? Today is pretty quiet..............well, as far as shows go :D

  7. I would love a mantle great dane in the future and am willing to wait for a correctly marked mantle male from the right breeder but if my research (health, temperament, conformation and registered ethical breeder) points to a fawn when the time comes then I will be happy with a fawn. I would prefer a healthy, good looking dane from a great breeder in the "wrong" colour than have a poorly bred mantle from a dodgy breeder.

    I have a Mantle...................want him?

You know I'd take him in a heartbeat :D

You know that while I have a heartbeat, there's never a chance of that? :D

I'm less partial to any particular colour than I used to be. My next Dane will be one bred for health, temperament and conformation, colour will be a long way down the list :)

  11. This thread has had some very good replies Thank your for your constructive imput. I opened this thread with a little of my history (as I had a idea that someone would get personal and not stay with the thread) and sure enough it became personal for only a couple of peoples. To those your questions did not warrant an answer. Our chosen sport is quite expensive and requires dedication and you need to be prepared for that if you are serious about breeding/showing dogs.

Of course anyone living in WA, Tasmania, the NT or remote from metro areas and specialty locations should have to haemorrhage financially to attend specialties - where they exist. Otherwise they lack "dedicaton".

I find that patronising in the extreme.

    Well said

I just found it extremely rude..............

  12. If you visit any Dog Shelter you will find many pure breed dogs that have been given up and or mistreated. About 90% of these animals will be PTS.

Do you have any references to back up these statements?

This than would help to improve the breeding and assist new owners in buying puppies of quality. Also it would greatly reduce the small breeders from indiscriminate breeding.

    Er, how?

How on earth would making a title harder (or impossibel in some cases) to get reduce breeding?

Dodgy breeders aren't going to change just because their dogs aren't titled.

Maybe some more thinking this plan through is in order? :)

Yes I have Judged (Speciality Shows). Yes I do show GSDs and show at Speciality Shows Only (because I to Live In The County Where There Are Only a Few Shows a Year).

I have known people who lived in Perth,Darwin, Adelaide and Hobart who travel to Speciality Shows in Sydney and Newcastle so I cant understand the locality being such a handicap.

So, you only show at specialty shows because you live in the country? Seems like you don't want to travel but think that others should?

I've known people from Darwin to travel to their breed specialty shows, too. They did quite well :)

Personally, I'm not in a position to travel to a specialty show and find somewhat hypocritical of someone to judge me on that when they choose the shows they do because they 'live in the country'.

I see you've chosen not to answer any of my questions, so I've quoted them in case you missed them :)
