  1. I have these beds and they are super strong, I couldn't imagine a dog eating or scratching through them, they are that tough, I've had them for about 4 years with the Danes and they still look like new.

    (B.F.B) Better Framed Bed

Galvanised steel frame resists rust whilst the improved mesh mat keeps your dog comfortable as well as being waterproof, chew resistant and flea retardant. The mat is fixed to the frame.

We have had one of these for ummmm about 4 years now I guess. We got one after we saw how well they held up for the local pound. With a gurney it looks lke brand new again and will easily last another few years, if not longer

For inside their kennels they have the Snooza D1000'S and these have held up also. The trick with those is that they are heavy and they can't drag them out of their kennels to throw them around.

  2. Is there any retail outlets that stock this? The website for the WA stockist is down and I find that the hassle of tracking down a supplier and going to pick it up negates possible cost benefits.

No there isn't but the NSW rep only charges us $10 for delivery which appears really reasonable

I emailed the VIC people and they just directed my email to the appropriate person and we went from there. So far seems hassle free.

  3. I had some samples of BH sent to me and the dogs seemed to love it incuding the one who is normally very very fussy and refuses dry food. I'm waiting on a few answers from them but think it might be worth trialling them on it for a month or two

Whats with the Canidae posts? Even I think it is odd to come into a thread on a particular brand to try and tout another one :o

  4. Not puppies but one of my big dogs will pee on the carpet in the study if you leave him unattended

I soak up as much as a I can with a cloth or old dog towel. Then I sprinkle with bicarb, spray bi carb with vinegar and allow to make a paste. Let it dry then vacuum up

Our carpet cleaning guys goes off when he can see that we have soaked an area with water and in our main bedroom we did unortunately put a water mark on the carpet that won't come out. So be careful whatever method you choose to use

  5. Target has a great sale on manchester at the moment.

I picked up some throw for the dogs for $10 each and they are very generously sized and quite plush. They come in red, blue, brown and light brown.

Also picked up cot mattresses for $45 each which are perfect for the big dogs and will be great for winter. I chuck a fitted cot sheet on it and then the blanket over the top.

It sounds so snug and comfy that I wouldn't mind bunking in with your dogs myself!

Yeh thinking now I should have gone the "gold" option of the inner spring mattress for $67 but they look pretty happy on these ones

Page 12 of the catalogue has a pic at the bottom left of the page of the blanket (wish they had it in black!!)

Great thing about the mattress is one size is waterproof which would be good for incontinent dogs

  7. I have a friends daughter that I use. She goes to Uni locally and so can commute from my house to the Uni if needed.

I pay her $50 a day which I think is cheap for 3 dogs and 3 cats. I don;t worry about them getting out as I have locks on my gates and have not given her a key to the gates.

So far she has only done a few short stints but we are going to book her for 2 weeks when we go away in August

I would never use a stranger to do it, only someone I know and trust. There is also a DOLer I would ask also if I needed someone - just that person lives further away and probably not worth their while for a day or two here and there.

If I only had one dog and cat I would probably just board them

  8. I disagree with having a dog inside at night, the real problem of why the dog is barking needs to be addressed, otherwise the dog will continue to bark during the day while you are gone.

Its called the "flood and droubt" effect.

You get home from work, you let your dog in and the dog is in with you all night until the morning when you put the dog out in the yard and off you go to work for the day, most dogs can deal with this, but some dogs cant and really do feel the effect of "being alone"....

maybe look at restricting your dogs access to parts of the yard at night, get the dog into a routine...when its time for bed, you give it a tasty treat like a pigs ear or brisket bone in a dog run and go to bed, the dog will then get used to you going to bed is not a bad thing, but the dog gets a nice treat out of it and feels secure in its own little area.

A lot of people are in denial that its their dogs barking, as they take it as a personal attack on themselves, I for one would appreciate a neighbour bringing this to my attention

I second thanking the neighbours for bringing it to your attention, most people just want to know they are being listened to and if you thank them, they will be more inclined to speak with you about it in the future, rather than involving the council, or taking matters into their own hands ....work with your neighbours

Whats wrong with a dog being inside at night?

Can you explain flood and droubt?

  9. New forum has been created. Please note though that I can't block access to it ... it will be up to you to check which forum the topic is in.

    Thank you sooooooo much!!!!

I have one more query about this forum - is there any possibility that the "home page" can be set to not show the latest topic if it happens to be in the sub forum. I logged on and saw a topic title I didn't need to see ............

  10. I don't understand why people are not reporting this to the police. If he is doing this to hundreds of people then surely the size of the fraud could be huge???

The more people that make police reports then surely the more active the police will want to be????

Fraud has to be proven. At this time, I believe my money will be refunded by my bank and my card is cancelled so it can't be accessed again.

If the merchant repeats a credit card charge when no goods or services have been supplied or requested by the card-holder, then that can be reported to Police because it is fraud plain and simple.

Unless the merchant hits a card subsequent to the initial order being made by the card holder and in the absence of a further order, there is no real case if the money is refunded OR if the goods eventually arrive.

Actually no.... if multiple people are placing orders and not receiving goods then the police will be interested

If everyone just lets it go then they get away with it and so another person becomes a victim - just like you did

  11. Are you absolutely positive that your dog is not barking? In my experience people do not leave notes just for the sake of it....

Barking dogs are horrid. The noise can make you feel like you are going insane.

My advice would be to try an really determine whether your dog is barking. Too many dogs get baited because they are nuisance barkers.

If you are absolutely positive it is not your dog then maybe approach all your neighbours with a friendly attitude and tell them you have received a note and would ike to investigate it further and remedy any issues if it is your dog. Explain that you are home at night and have not heard your dog bark but ask whether they might keep a diary of when your dog is barking for you. Then you can keep your own diary of you being at home etc.

You could also try entering your street when your dog thinks you are away to investigate as to whether he / she is barking.

  12. Thankyou to those whose posts have been kind and informative :)

I have not been on dogzonline for 18 months or so. But last time I was here people didn't flame you for being upset about something or not choosing a title of a post with pinpoint accuracy....

It might not apply to you Winterpaws but some people struggle to afford pet ownership but do want to try and have their pet's interests looked after. Increasing the burden of that puts some people out of the market and then some people have to make decisions about euthanasia rather than scraping funds together for operations and treatment.

Actually it does apply to me as I had over $6,000 worth of vet fees for a dog last year. I suspect I will also have an increase on my premiums for my horses insurance

If they don't increase the premiums then they will stop writing pet insurance all together. I used to do bloodstock insurance and that is what would happen - the insurers would leave the market reducing the pool of insurers available.

    It's just business :)
