  1. Just wandering what's the best way to treat a cut on our dog's neck (right on the collar line)? The cut is a result of a full day's play with a friends dog. It only seems superficial and there is only a small amount of blood. i've cleaned the area with antiseptic wipes and obviously cannot apply a bandage around his neck, so should i just let it scab over?
  2. thanks for the links..will check them out tonight
  3. I tried to do a search for "tug" but the silly search won't allow 3 character searches Anyway, i'm after a tug toy for our stafford which he won't be able to destroy. I don't want anything made of rope or soft materials as his teeth get caught quite easily. I remember seeing some made from fire hose type material, but can't find it. Can anyone recommend a good tough tug toy with a decent length as i don't want to lose a finger nothing too expensive either.
  4. i got some malaseb and applied it the other day... the directions on the bottle say to only apply it twice a week. how many treatments before i see an improvement in the condition? they are still smelly after one treatment.
  5. he has been chewing on his paws in the evenings when lying on the couch.
  6. yep, diet is good... Artemis and raw, plus sardines, eggs, yoghurt. I think Apex is the generic version of Neocort and is an antibiotic cream which was previously prescribed for hot spots. Am i wasting my time with the acv soaking? is the dark red colour normal?
  7. Do dogs paws generally smell a little funky due to the sweat glands? I've noticed our dogs paws are a little on the smelly side and are a dark red colour in between his toes. i soaked his feet in an apple cider vinegar/water mix and then applied Apex cream for a couple of days but the smell is still there. is this normal, or is there something else going on? no change in diet or surroundings.
  8. Hi All, I'm still after a copy of the Really Reliable Recall DVD... anyone have a used copy they are willing to sell?
  9. same here, but then it's into quarantine for a few hours as his farts are deadly Feed it outside and in the monring before heading off to work yep, we learnt that lesson pretty quickly.. the first couple of times we gave it to him in the evening and then the stupid dog let them rip while sleeping on my lap watching tv. it's interesting to see his reactions to being offered different foods. fruit - goes mental vegies - do i really have to? eggs - interested rmb - interested sardines - will do backflips dry (artemis) - will do backflips treats - watch your fingers!
  10. same here, but then it's into quarantine for a few hours as his farts are deadly
  11. after our dog had a few unfortunate explosions in the crate we relocated the crate to the back room of the house which backs directly into the yard. then we cut a small hole in the wall and a matching hole in the crate so he can go in and out as he pleases. it was the best move ever. we can now pop him to bed at any time without a toilet break and he gets up in the morning and does his wee outside whenever he wants.
  12. I tried many different brands of dry food with our stafford pup... Great Barko, Advance, Super Coat,... and finally settled on Artemis. It is a super premium food, and we feed him much less than all the other brands. He absolutely loves it and jumps out of his skin when it's dinner time, but most importantly he has never been in better condition. Shiny coat, well toned, lots of energy, no allergies or itching. i would never consider a cheaper brand ever again. He also gets raw food for breakfast every day.
  13. Yep, tried that... the dog sulks in the corner for a little while and knows he's in trouble...5 mins later... it's on again.
  14. yep, the cat certainly does let the dog know. he grabs him by the neck and sinks his teeth into the dogs cheeks and won't let go.
  15. we've used the crate from day dot, it sits in the corner of the lounge room, and yes, sometimes when the dog gets too rough with the cat he is confined to the crate.
  16. Morning All, We have an 11 month old SBT and 9 month old British Shorthair who insist on playing rough with each other all the time. I understand they are both young and their behaviour will probably mellow out as they get older, but we'd like to be able to sit down and watch tv in an orderly manner without a wrestling match taking place in front of us. They were introduced to each other approx 5/6 months ago. The dog only mouths the cat lightly and has never shown any aggression, and the cat certainly gives as good as he gets and sinks his teeth/claws into the dog. I can separate the dog and get him to sit and stay at my feet while the cat licks his wounds, but as soon as the cat makes any sudden movements it's back on in a big way. the cat seems to enjoy it as well, as he'll jump of the table and run across the room saying "catch me if you can". The only way to get them quiet is to move the cat to another room. they get to interact (rumble) with each other in the same room about 2 or 3 times a day for about 10 or 15 minutes. After that they need to be separated as they won't stop. Here is a short video, any suggestions would be welcome. Dog and Cat Rumble
  17. I'm about to sign up with medibank and i'm just trying to work out if i'll go with the $500 or $200 excess. Would anyone want to hazard a guess as to the average cost of a trip to the vet for a typical accident or injury?
  18. thanks for the replies, thought that was the case, but nice to confirm.
  19. +1, coat has never looked so good! i think it's an excellent quality dry food.
  20. Hi All, Our dog has had this pink patch on his nose from day dot. We put sunscreen on it as it tends to get redder on sunny days. Is it something we should be concerned about and is there any other solutions?
  21. Just had an idea as a more long term solution to toileting during the night. His crate is up against the family room wall which backs onto the pergola/backyard... so we could cut a small hole in the wall (timber + weatherboard) which lines up with the side door on his crate. That way he has access to go outside, but no access to anywhere else in the house.. i'm a genius!
  22. No, he's inside with us all evening, just a last toilet break at 11pm.
  23. Ye, relatively healthy looking compared to the accidents in the crate, and nowhere near as smelly. I can happily collect his poo in the yard, but the smell of the poo in the crate literally makes me want to throw up. I'm thinking it might be similar to an upset tummy in humans where symptons only show during certain parts of the day. You know, fever and vomiting only during the night etc. Is there any herbal remedies suitable for upset tummies in dogs?
  24. The crate is in the family room but it's close enough where i can hear him. A doggy door means that i would have to leave the crate open, and so the dog would chase the cat around the house all night... not really an option. He's been in the crate from day dot without a problem. I'm thinking it's an upset tummy, would the vet actually subscribe any medicine or just tell me rice/boiled chicken for a while?
