  1. Lloyd and Seven had their op Friday of the week before last, so 10 days ago approx, and they were absolutely fine. They were very sleepy in the evening of Friday when we brought them home, then Saturday they were moving around a bit gingerly, but by Sunday they were back to their feral selves They didn't go near their own (or each others) stitches at all which was surprising, so no need for a collar at out house. They've been kept on-lead on all their walks, until yesterday. Good luck, i'm sure he'll be fine
  2. me too what a great group! the most worthwhile i have joined i think.
  3. hi guys, thanks for your advice. i've started putting them in time out when they are fighting, outside but where we can see them, and what do you know? they stop fighting. if one is being the instigator and not backing down, i just put him out. they are both getting desexed on friday too. i will wait til they have healed and are back to 'normal' before getting a consultant in, but i think i will definately be needing one to learn how i can be the leader of my bratty little pack
  4. well I just checked out your website and I have sent you an email to your underdog email i'm at docklands. thanks so much for your advice too.
  5. they get walked morning and afternoon for about 30 mins each time. Not much training unfortunately and to be honest they are always together.... do you think I should walk them separately as a start? i'll definately look into the behaviourist, thanks for that.
  6. Hi there, I have two male pug little mates that are 7 months old. i wasnt warned about getting litter mates until after I had actually got them. My breeder didnt mention anything about the possibility of fighting, and I honestly didnt think it would be a problem. Well, probably for the last two weeks, they have been fighting horribly. It used to be just play fighting, and very very occasionally one would get a little agro, and it would be over in a matter of seconds. This last two weeks though, they have been terrible. Its really nasty, high pitched screeching, and they bite each other and get up on their hind legs and fight from there too. They dont seem to hurt each other, just a few little nicks, but its happening more and more frequently and its just awful. It can go on for a full minute if we leave them to sort it out themselves, and then it will start again 5 mins later. And again. Over toys, or over nothing at all seemingly. Nothing we do seems to stop them either. I have tried ignoring them, spraying them with water, dragging them apart and putting the perpertrator outside, yelling, smacking, everything. It's like they cant even hear me. One is more dominant, but the other one sometimes has his turn, so i'm guessing they're trying to figure out whose boss. They are both getting castrated next week, and I am hoping that might alleviate some of the problems, but i am aware it might not. I would never consider rehoming one of them, I am just after some advice from anyone who has dealt with this before. Thanks
  7. my two sleep under our bed on an old futon mattress which they have now claimed as theirs!! so we had to get a new one for visitors i love having them in with us, except for when we get woken at 4am by their snoring!
  8. My two boys are almost 6 months old, and I witnessed Lloyd cocking his leg for the first time a few days ago on our morning walk! Seven still squats though. And I haven't noticed Lloyd do it again. They're getting desexed soon so hopefully that will nip it in the bud
  9. Good suggestion - OH had BB (for BB King) or Jed (from Beverly Hillbillies theme song) He likes the Blues - so - any other ideas I can throw at him? Elwood! (from the Blues Brothers movie)
  10. I was just wondering, for those that do not use flea treatment, do you still use heart worm medication etc? I am yet to flea my 5 month old puppies also, and have never noticed a flea on them, so I would be happy to skip the flea-ing process.
  11. I think so it's the only way I can get photo's of them, when they are sleeping! and the flash always wakes them. whoops :D
  12. oh i am sorry! did i wake you up! how rude of me.... :D
  13. Hi guys, here's an update on the sleeping situation with Lloyd & Seven. Since putting up my post and receiving all of your helpful advice, my OH and I have taken the boys for a walk/play every night close to bedtime to tire them out, plus we've been doing some basic obedience as well. And i have to say it's going really well! we had a whimper last night at 4am, ignored it, and that was it! Same thing the night before. So thanks again for all of your suggestions, they've been so helpful and we'll keep up the good work keeping our puppies stimulated, happy AND obedient
  14. hmm i think thats a good idea from puggy puggy and smitty regarding crating / pen during the night. currently they have access to the whole apartment at night and day time, and this may be confusing them in regards to bedtime. we need some more boundaries i think! thanks very much
  15. My pleasure - they look like lovely pups. If they don't have any interactive toys like kongs, these might also help to keep them busy. oh they have a million toys, including kongs, but my shoes seem to be way more interesting and stimulating! funny that thanks again.
  16. thanks puggy puggy yep i bet they would love to be sleeping in our bed!! but alas, thats not happening, as they are little chubbers that would hog the bed, and shed everywhere too. ah the joys of motherhood!
  17. every morning they get taken for a 'walk' for 30 minutes, even though its more sniffing everything and investigating and rough and tumbling with each other than actual walking but it is exercise and it gets them out of the house. i also take them in the evenings too sometimes, but i am now thinking that i will be doing that every night, and just before bedtime. it makes sense, they're getting older and more active. i will also try the training too to tire them out. they can Sit, but thats about it. thanks for your reply, very helpful
  18. hello, i have two male pug puppies that are 5 months old. we live in a one bedroom apartment, and they live inside with us, including sleeping. they go outside only when we are home, due to me worrying about them being dog-napped, and they bark a bit, so i wouldnt like them to annoy our neighbours. anyway, since we got them, their night time behaviour has been great. no crying or noise at all (they dont sleep in our room) and they have been happy to get up when we get up for work. all until last week! for some reason, they are now waking up at 3am or 4am and crying and scratching at our bedroom door. It's not to go to the toilet either, as they have their loo set up in our bathroom. it seems to be that they just are up and ready to play. very annoying!! so we have ignored them, and it has still gone on for 40 minutes or so, and other days we have gotten up, fed them, taken them outside for a bit, then come back and gone to bed, only for it to start all over again. i have also sternly told them No! etc, and that does nothing too. i am sleep deprived and getting over it very quickly. any advice?

  20. My pug puppies have been on Purina ProPlan puppy food, and have been going well, but seeing this great value alternative (and all of your helpful comments) has inspired me to get some this weekend for the babies :p i am also positive that they will eat it, as they are complete little pigs! i'm based in the city in melbourne, and from what i can gather, the closest distributer to me would be petstock in south melb... unless any other melburnites get it anywhere else?

    Pug

I have two pugs, a black male and a fawn male. I am only very new to the pug world, as I only got my little terrors a month ago (they are now 12 weeks) but whilst researching the breed, I did notice a few forums and sites that stated a difference in personality types between the two. and i have found that my two seem to fall under each type. My fawn is a bit couch-potato-ish, sensitive, and cuddly, and my black pug is quite skittish, much more energetic, less cuddly, and pretty naughty but as i said, i am very new to pugs myself, so I would like advice on this matter too! Yes there is generally a big difference between the two colours. When I was first getting into pugs I asked a breeder and she said "blacks are special, out of this world kind of special" After owning a couple of each colour I definately lean towards the blacks. They are incrediabley naughty when babies and are extra crazy, they are double the crazy strength of a fawn. When fawns mature they just become snuggy couch potatos which is great but blacks still seem to have the same "fire" or "full on character" as they did as a baby. I've been trying for a while to put my finger on what it is that draws me to the blacks maybe its their very special way of bonding with and loving their owner. For example, my first black who is sadly no longer with us used to sit in bed at night and stare at me, abit freaky and stalkerish especially if i woke up and saw him sitting there staring and my current girl does this weird slow motion thing when she doesn't think I'm looking and she literally creeps closer and closer to me in slow motion. Maybe its actually that they are way smarter and cuter than fawns I'm not sure what it is but it has me hooked! I'm not sure if I am making any sence the best way for someone to understand it is to eventually own one of each colour! Owning a black pug is definately an experience every pug lover should have! But be warned everything you thought you knew about they way pugs are will fly right out the window I notice my black pug stares all stalker-like too!! funny the fawn and the black are getting more different every day. At the moment, and it might be because he is so young, but the black one is less affectionate with us, and the fawn (Lloyd) loves cuddles and being held. Hopefully Seven (black) will become more loving toward us in time. Either way, he's hilarious and keeps us very amused and on our toes
